Because somebody leaked out the MobileMe software to everyone on this forum when it wasn't publicly available from Apple. Now people are helping to slow down the process of Apple making the transition by trying to login when they KNOW the service isn't ready.
Because people just have no patience whatsoever anymore?!

Finally, the outbreak of common sense.

why cant i log in through system preferences?!?!?!? just updated it to me.com,logged in fine with my username and password on the server but when i go to system preferences to change my settings it wont let me log in. tells me my username or password is wrong!

anyone else gotten this?

Yes. I have been getting this for some time now. I cannot log into either .mac or .me from my computer any longer. I am even now starting to get keychain write errors now. Something is really screwed up.

Come on everyone. Give Apple a break. They're working as hard as they can. It just that the Support phone lines are tied up with Microsoft for their Server Support.

We're paying money for something that's broken, given no alternatives ).Mac is dead), and given no explanation as to what's going on, or when to expect a fix. Some might call it theft, some might call it incompetence. Some others might call it a class action lawsuit, if they don't get their act together soon.

Go back and read all the the licensing info you read (or skipped through) when you signed up; does it say anywhere that they guarantee 100% availability and uptime?

Its not theft. Its downtime. You calling it theft is as logical as me calling you slanderous for calling Apple thiefs.

here here...

I'm sorry, but why is everybody complaining? I mean, how many of you actually need MobileMe right now? Seriously, its been only a little more than 12 hours since .mac went down....
Well, I'm trying to get ahold of an email I already have recieved. I'm at work and in a situation where I have to use webmail. Apple said the MobileMe transition would take place last night, they had it up at one point, now it's down again.

Tell me, is there any reason Apple can't put the old .Mac mail website back up until they get their ducks in a row, so the all their existing customers can get on with their lives and not be inconvenenced by Apple's issues?

That would be the customer service oriented thing to do.

has anyone tried to forward their Gmail's mail to mobileme to get the push access? I have tried and it doesnt seem to be working, and i enabled forwarding in my gmail to the me.com address

I doubt it's that simple....I mean, they already disabled .mac and they're trying to put up MobileMe right now....

Actually, this is a subscription-based service that most of us have been paying for (remember .Mac?) since WELL BEFORE the announcement of MobileMe. This is most definately NOT just some freebie that we need to be patient and wait for.

Meanwhile, with MM not working, .Mac offline, and no iPhone, I can't access my e-mail remotely. Nice...

You misunderstood me. I meant that most of us were members for a longtime, including myself. Why do we think that we're entitled to the new mobileme? You didn't pay for Mobileme...you paid for .mac. Apple is upgrading your service at their expense.

If like if your FatBitches magazine subscription wanted to send you a complimentary copy of Playboy...however you needed to wait 24hrs...would you freak out? Doubt it.

nelmat - per the Apple notice - maintenance was supposed to be completed by 2 am this morning - they set the deadline and they missed it. .Mac costs much more (% wise) than hosting elsewhere.

If it is boring - move on to another thread - no one is making you participate

We are entitled to MobileMe because Apple said we'd be upgraded for free.

Plus, there are NEW users who have signed up to MobileMe for the first time and are now unable to use the service.

Funny how most of the apologists on this thread have the following listed under their name:

Just an observation....

That is a false analogy. It would be more like if the people over at FatBitches decided to send you a free Playboy but they didn't have any to send so they held back your FatBitches magazine until they got your Playboy ready to go. I'm sorry, but when I want me some FatBitches, I had better get me some FatBitches.

... this is going to end up on Google, isn't it?

Oh please. We paid for .Mac, a service that is being replaced by Mobile Me. Since we already paid, they pretty much HAVE to "upgrade" us, or at least continue .Mac...

Stop with the kool-aid already.

Did everyone with .mac get changed to .me?

I didn't even consider I could get a cool name. I just chose one I thought might still be available.

I managed to sign up to the free trial but can't login. I managed once but now it's saying password incorrect.

Sorry - how many other hosting companies give this level of hosting and email provision for £3.75 per month? I guess that's more expensive than free web hosting.

Once again to state all my .mac services are working, the web interface is not. I'm not apologising for Apple, it's not my place, I'm just trying to balance this debate - for me the outage of a new look web interface is not a big issue.

Seems that apple builds a really big cloud...

They are not able to resolve the problem in 12 hours.

Classy. Actually I was perfectly happy with .Mac and use the gallery daily. I have no use for MobileMe and am just irritated they pulled .Mac down in the meantime.

I agree with your sentiment...however, they critical service, which is email for most is working....right?

Sheesh

Sheesh, you are being very unreasonable, an hour or two for a major system upgrade serving millions of people? It takes longer than that set up Leopard and install all of your apps and get it up and running the way you want it.

Apple may just offer some form of remuneration but if you just wait till things are done before you stick your foot in your mouth...

Hear, hear!

If you're that worked up about it, I'll give you a refund myself. One day would be about $0.27.

Oh wait, never mind. You already got your free day for the year. 29 FEB.

:D

PS--By "you" I mean the gripers. Not HLDan.

It was publicly available, when I woke up this morning I had a prompt on my screen asking me to download it through software update
