Sorry - how many other hosting companies give this level of hosting and email provision for £3.75 per month? I guess that's more expensive than free web hosting.

Once again to state all my .mac services are working, the web interface is not. I'm not apologising for Apple, it's not my place, I'm just trying to balance this debate - for me the outage of a new look web interface is not a big issue.

How is all of .mac working if there's no web interface?

That was part of .mac.

I can't sign in to MobileMe on my Mac, so I have only got e-mail and iDisk (if I connect as "Another user's iDisk")

nelmat - per the Apple notice - maintenance was supposed to be completed by 2 am this morning - they set the deadline and they missed it. .Mac costs much more (% wise) than hosting elsewhere.

If it is boring - move on to another thread - no one is making you participate

If the outage bothers you that much - move to another service - no one is making you participate

Well, I'm trying to get ahold of an email I already have recieved. I'm at work and in a situation where I have to use webmail. Apple said the MobileMe transition would take place last night, they had it up at one point, now it's down again.

Tell me, is there any reason Apple can't put the old .Mac mail website back up until they get their ducks in a row, so the all their existing customers can get on with their lives and not be inconvenenced by Apple's issues?

That would be the customer service oriented thing to do.

Have you tried setting the account up as IMAP? If that's possible in your situation at all that is. IMAP will allow you to access the messages without removing them from the server, so you'll still have access to it when every thing is up and running again

I dunno, a quick google search gave me this link: http://www.1stfreehosting.com/

It's free, they offer 20GB of storage, email, a bunch of other stuff and guarantee 99.9% uptime.

Because obviously the length of time you've been on this website is relevant in some way. Please.

Typically new users who take an extreme view for/against something on any forum is considered to be evidence that those people are either duplicate accounts for other posters or are in some way related to what you are discussing (in this case, Apple staff).

That is a false analogy. It would be more like if the people over at FatBitches decided to send you a free Playboy but they didn't have any to send so they held back your FatBitches magazine until they got your Playboy ready to go. I'm sorry, but when I want me some FatBitches, I had better get me some FatBitches.

... this is going to end up on Google, isn't it?

Lol..alright, you're right. hehe.. you know what i mean though..it's a free upgrade that wasn't necessary...let's cool our jets...soon enough you'll be able to upload your pics...sync your calendars and get your egos back online...lol. (just kidding on the ego thing)

It's probably going to be deleted, more likely. However I think it's one of the best posts of the year. :apple:+S

The service is working, the web apps are not.

Yes, it is a part of .mac/mobile me - however all the functionality offered by the services is working for me, it is the web interface to these services which is not, not the services themselves - my mac at home has sync'd to the 'cloud' using mobileme and the mac pro on my desk at work has successfully sync'd from that data from the 'cloud'. my email is working. my .mac web sites are working - of course I can't wait to access the new web apps, but i do have the required functionality from a service that costs less than two pints of beer a month. I can connect to my iDisk without any problem from within finder. I can connect to the mobileme push facilities from my iPhone...

Has anybody able to get mobileme thru software update yet? I tried this morning PST but it was not available yet. I would not try logging to me.com or mac.com website from my work till I get the software update on my macbook when I get home from work. Can't wait!:D

people have to relax...this a a huge transition, mobileme is big!!! Apple is trying, websites that run through .mac are still working...baby steps I guess

No, it's the reproduction of inaccurate information.

Somewhat, but it certainly is true that a link was posted on this forum to be shared with hundreds more people and they have taken the liberty to to download and install the Mobileme software and it's true that they are trying to login and it's most true that they are contributing to the cause of the slowdowns and the delay of completion.

Cost means nothing to me.

I can't use the service as it was intended, that's why I'm complaining.

Plenty - you can check out the many many packages from GoDaddy / 1and1 / etc. - .Mac is not inexpensive by any means.

There should be a thread for "best posts of the year" - this one would be hard to beat!

Am I right in thinking this hasn't been launched in the UK yet? Every time I go to me.com I end up with the features page. Even clicking the free trial link on the MobileMe login page takes me back to the features page.

Or am I being *really* stupid?

You misunderstood me. I meant that most of us were members for a longtime, including myself. Why do we think that we're entitled to the new mobileme? You didn't pay for Mobileme...you paid for .mac. Apple is upgrading your service at their expense.

If like if your FatBitches magazine subscription wanted to send you a complimentary copy of Playboy...however you needed to wait 24hrs...would you freak out? Doubt it.

You aren't making any sense. Under your scenario, Apple would be offering everyone the "chance" to go to MobileMe OR to stay as customers of .Mac. That isn't what is happening here - .Mac has been terminated and REPLACED by MobileMe, meaning that I'm PAYING for the new replacement service through my subscription.

For instance, this would be like your subscription to FrenchWh*res Digest being REPLACED with Sk@nkyFrog Monthly Reader.

How do you enable push?

I sent an email from another account to my .mac account. mail.app didn't see it, iphone with 2.0 software didn't see it. With mail.app a manual connect brought in the mails - they had arrived a couple of seconds after I'd sent them.

Others are saying that this functionality works - what's the magic switch to enable it? At the moment it all seems a bit manual. It's a strange definition of push where you have to manually go into the app to see if you've got mail.

I'm afraid that's bull.

The update was made available to anyone online at the time MobileMe went live.

People had the "hidden" update when .mac was still running - there were NO problems with the service then. It worked 100% perfectly and even www.mac.com was great. So it cannot have caused the service to collapse.

If more people had been online at the time (and not many would have, given the time that it was released) then more people would have downloaded the update automatically.

The update incidentally DOES NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO HOW MUCH TRAFFIC HITS MobileMe. It is 95% identical to the .mac software, the only difference is the name!

It seems people are getting upset about nothing...

I'm in the same boat here, .mac is my main email.. and I couldn't access it all day as our work p.c's are windows ones, even though I needed it for checking up on an order for work.. sure I was dissapointed but not angry.

When I get home its still down, and I would guess probably will be until tomorrow. I can still use mail to access my account on both my laptop and mac pro (so all this no alternative stuff is rubbish, you can still get mail .... ) . O.K So sync is down, and .mac in preferences doesn't work (for some reason the pro has chucked my account details out completely and requires me to sign in again... which of course doesn't work at the moment.)

I couldn't comprehend just how many accounts there are on .mac... but every SINGLE one has to be changed to allow for the higher storage volume, and new accounts for every person have to be created for the new @me.com accounts - but insuring that no two people have the same account names (if you go buy the first name . last name@me.com account then this could easily happen).

Sure the site was up, then down, then up, then down. Surely though if it was meant to be stable and ready then it would work now, but it isn't so we'll all just have to be patient. Also people got a system update (though by the look of the way you had to go about getting it through system preferences, this also wasn't meant to happen) but if this update was readily available, it would show up in the software update ... but it doesn't so again patience ...

The more we go about poking our noses in by trying to find back doors around this process, the longer things will take. We're locked out for a reason, Apple need to insure things are perfect before we all rush in, and cause a huge crash... or worse (and then we'd all go about moaning...)

comon peeps lets not fight ;)

20 gigs of online storage, web hosting, push email and calendar synch - less than £4 a month - NOT inexpensive? What are you talking about?! Yes, I know there are services for less, but once you're under a fiver a month, we're definitely in the realms of 'inexpensive'.
