So you think it's sickening that people should expect to get what they pay for.

I think it's sickening that people resort to temper tantrums or foot stomping when there's a problem that the terms of agreement (which they signed to begin with) say that there may come a time such as this.

A full day (if it goes that long) out of a full year really isn't that much in the grand scheme.

I guess I would understand the fits if I knew that the people throwing them were in front of their machines 24/7 looking at .mac/me without getting up. But we all know that's not likely.

Apple treats us like utter **** - and the majority seem to bend over and LOVE IT.

I've got a pretty warped mind but I can't find a word that fits in the asterisks and which makes sense of your overly graphic analogy. I love all my Apple products but I've never tried to insert them in my arse - have you (your arse I mean, not mine!)?

Oh, the drama. The switchover is having some problems and taking longer than Apple expected. What is the big deal? Has your cable or internet never given out for a few hours or days? Mine has and I didn't lose my mind over it. Yes, it's frustrating. However, I currently can use iDisk and mail, and my published web pages are working fine. I'm curious. Do all the complainers really use the .mac website so much, or are they just mad because they want MobileMe RIGHT NOW!?

For me it doesn't come down to terms of conditions, communication, SLAs, using .Mac for business or failed upgrade plans. Simply .Mac/MobileMe is down. We all know it'll be back up in a few hours and there's nothing we can do it about it so we may as well just chill and deal with it. Getting worked up over it will solve nothing. If you're really pissed enough to complain then wait a couple of days then write to Apple but in the meantime, just go with the flow.

Everyone accepts that the terms of service do not provide any guarantee of service, BUT people have their own expectations. Apple prides itself on good quality service, but in this case that hasn't surfaced.

When people post "I'm angry that I can't get my e-mail or check my calendar", they don't need some wiseguy telling them that the terms of use say x and y. It's a fact that they aren't happy with their service and no amount of writing will change that.

Do people really think that people wont use this opportunity to complain on forums? It's been quite a day of fun, with all the ups and downs.

Seriously, it isn't that serious...

Jesus. Nobody says you have to be "hanging on, hanging on, hanging on" or "frustratingly bashing away at the mouse trying to find bits of websites"... That's YOUR decision - not Apple's prescription or mandate.

My gosh. This lunacy and sense of entitlement may yet make me vomit a little in my mouth.

:D LMAO!! Great perspective to, hopefully, bring some folks back to reality. Thanks, dtyson!

Maybe a system requirement is Snow Leopard? Did I miss that??

My sense of humor is weakening along with my resolve the MobileMe will work soon....

The last sentence...

And I just had a chat with one of their agents, and this is how it went:

Dani: Hi, my name is Dani. Welcome to Apple!
Dani: Right now we are going through a maintenance period, so you will not be able to access Mobileme. Please bear with us as we are going through the transition. You can check on the system status on when everything is back up and normal. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience. There is no ETA on when it will be operational.
******
Me: Okay, thanks.
******
Dani: No worries, thank you for your time and patience.

He knew what I was going to ask when I answered before he came on to my reason for being there "Inquiring about MobileMe downtime..."

He came up with a response right away. I think they have that macro in their clipboards and just Apple-Z it to the chat window.  O well, keep on waitin' and refreshing me.com (or not)

"We all know it'll be back up in a few hours" - can we quote you on that ;)

Sooner or later that will prove true - a broken clock displays the correct time twice a day :)

If you chat with people by going to the online store, clicking on the MobileMe box like if your gonna buy it, then click chat next to the phone # in the blue box, you'll chat with someone else that hasn't had as much traffic and will say that MobileMe starts tomorrow.

Yikes. Maybe this thread should experience intermittent outages for the rest of the day, too.

I assume Apple is working hard to fix the issue. Stuff happens, especially with technology.

Yeah good idea! Close this thread until mobile me is actually working for a period of time. This way all the whiners get to rest up and recover from all their stress! ;)

Remote App + Airport Express?

Any word on the remote app working through an Airport express connected to an iTunes library?
Thanks in advance

Feel free! I'm been known to eat my words a few times. :)

I'd be surprised though if a company the size of Apple doesn't use some kind of best practise framework. In the UK we use ITIL, and part of any change is to provide a backout plan. Assuming Apple *have* a backout plan then at some point they have to implement it and revert to .Mac as it was yesterday - then go ahead and replan/reschedule the MobileMe upgrade. Obviously Apple would be reluctant to do this, but there has to come a point where it's unavoidable from a business point of view.

Hope this isn't an omen to how the 3G iphone activations are going to be tommorow.....especially now that you have Apple and ATT doing activations separately!

Oh wow! This interaction is EXACTLY like all the other conversations people have had with Apple's customer support online. That's SO interesting. Wow. Neat. Thanks for all that useful insight you gave by cutting and pasting.

Oh crap, you're right.... my post was completely pointless. I'm SO sorry to have wasted 12 seconds of your precious time. Here I thought I was adding something to this very civil discussion, but your brilliant sarcasm and sardonic wit just made it clear to me that I was just wasting everyone's time, including my own. Wow... I am SUCH a loser. Oh boy... my stomach is now in knots as the waves of shame and embarrassment crash over me, drowning me in disgrace.

Oh please kind sir (or madam) can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me? I KNOW I'm just a clueless noob. I hereby promise that if I ever feel the urge to post something here again, I'll pause to ponder whether my input will be insightful and informative enough to live up to the high standards of cloudnine and the thousands of other MacRumors readers whose eyes might gaze upon my writings. Because you've made it clear that this forum is reserved for nothing other than the freshest and most inspiring illuminations that one can find on ANY rumor site forum.

A thousand thanks to you, cloudnine, for helping this ignorant noob start his journey down the path towards usefulness. I shall never forget you for the rest of mine days!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I disagree, because what about people like me that signed up for MobileMe, but weren't previously .mac customers? That's where they should've blocked MobileMe registrations until they knew they had everything up and running stable.

Just for the record, before all prospective and current customers get scared:

Email with me.com and mac.com is fully functional but the web interface. You can download your email using any mail client.

Push Email is fully functional with the 2.0 firmware. The iphone even configures your account automatically once you sync with itunes.

Preferences of your me.com account cannot be changed at the moment

So I suggest you people calm down somewhat. I do understand that those are angry who do need web access at this moment. But most can use alternative ways to access their emails.

I guess we are all angry because we have waited so long for the iphone 3G and MobileMe to launch. So waiting a few more hours is just a pain in the ....

Hope I will be able to pick up a 3G iPhone in a few hours here in Berlin. I have already updated my first generation iPhone and the firmware works flawlessly.

I've seen screenshot of it taken by normal people, so I think it works. Go to appleinsider.com and its one of the two links for the "10 top apps"

I agree 100% with you.

Why does anyone feel the need to criticise or put down other posters?

It's not fair. You clearly posted what you thought would be of interest to other users.

If somebody goes out of their way to help, they don't deserve to get abuse for it.

Anyone that doesn't like what is posted can easily leave the thread. As it stands, the only thing we can discuss is MobileMe not working.

Well disagreement is your right, of course but if Apple do use an indsutry standard best practise methodology then that would be the course of action they would take.

Having said that, I suspect that new me.com accounts (mine included - I only signed up a few hours ago) would continue to work even in the highly unlikely event that Apple were forced to revert back to .mac.

just out of curiosity, but why do you say this?

It just seems like an overreaction to a delay in access to the web based services of a consumer product release. They gave pretty strong warning that this is a major update. Clearly hasn't gone well, but this delay will be a distant memory within hours and honestly, most consumers will not have even noticed. It isn't even as though email has been down.

That's all.
