I guess I shouldn't be shocked at the apologists but I still am. I'm not crying over the launch screw-up up but you still have to admit it's been a total disaster thus far.

Yahoo! introduced an entirely new email system for tens of millions of users without any noticeable downtime at all. They overlapped the old and new systems so there were no launch problems. Ahem Apple. And the price for their service is $0.00.

1251 posts, and the service hasn't even launched.

Most people here will use it once, when it launches, and then never again.

Oh, the drama. The switchover is having some problems and taking longer than Apple expected. What is the big deal? Has your cable or internet never given out for a few hours or days? Mine has and I didn't lose my mind over it. Yes, it's frustrating. However, I currently can use iDisk and mail, and my published web pages are working fine. I'm curious. Do all the complainers really use the .mac website so much, or are they just mad because they want MobileMe RIGHT NOW!?

You got it kid. Patience is a virtue...and apparently fanboys don't have any.

It just seems like an overreaction to a delay in access to the web based services of a consumer product release. They gave pretty strong warning that this is a major update. Clearly hasn't gone well, but this delay will be a distant memory within hours and honestly, most consumers will not have even noticed. It isn't even as though email has been down.

That's all.
The delay is clearly NOT just web-based services. If you weren't already logged into .mac in System Preferences, or if you logged out, you cannot login and so iDisk, Sync, BTMM, etc. are not working either. I wish people would quit saying that everything is working except for web apps, because that is clearly not so.

What are you talking about? My cable has NEVER been out for a few days. This now going on 18 hours - it was supposed to be operational at 0200 hours PDT this morning.

Many of us use .Mac for more than posting vacation pictures ;)

I don't know if somebody has read this, but the support page says:

MobileMe Launch 7/9/2008, started at 8pm PT

With the exception of the new web apps, all of the following services are available: Mail, iChat, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and all published pages, including Galleries and iWeb sites.

The MobileMe web apps will be available as soon as possible.

I think it's sickening that people resort to temper tantrums or foot stomping when there's a problem that the terms of agreement (which they signed to begin with) say that there may come a time such as this.

A full day (if it goes that long) out of a full year really isn't that much in the grand scheme.

I guess I would understand the fits if I knew that the people throwing them were in front of their machines 24/7 looking at .mac/me without getting up. But we all know that's not likely.

Yes, I would like my $0.27 back please.....

What's the big deal if it isn't ready yet? Yes, apple did say that it'd be done wayyyy earlier today, but technically, it wasn't really supposed to be launched until tomorrow. They probably thought it'd be okay to release it a little early, and decided to hold off because of a few issues.

I run a celebrity blog and when I put up new layouts, I have a set date and time of when they'll be released because 99% of it is done before I even upload to the server. Sometimes unforeseen things do happen, which is why they're called unforeseen. Just calm down.

No reason to work yourself up over it ... it's not gonna change. You can scream to the top of your lungs at this very moment, and guess what? When you go to www.mac.com ... it's still gonna say "under maintenance"

...hmm...for what then? If you don't use it for sharing a few files, using ilife apps and mail...what are you using it for?

If you're using it for things other than that, I'm afraid that you might want to try more robust service providers...shoot, as some other mentioned, some are free!

Anyhow...

Dang... I'm sure this has been mentioned, but even though iWeb sites are available, I am unable to publish to them.

Mail has a yellow light next to the status. I'm able to get it on my desktop Mail App, but my iPhone isn't getting push (I've upgraded to 2.0) anymore. The whole push thing for calendaring and contacts isn't as "instant" as I'd expected.

Maybe it will get better?
