Something is a miss and I am hoping to see a conspiracy video pop up here soon. There are no steps forward here, off to the refurbished section I go instead.

Been waiting for this update for a long time as my 2008 iMac is really getting on a bit. 27" is too big for me and the 4K version is just too lame with an old processor and integrated graphics. It breaks my heart but I will be building a PC for my work instead of giving Apple any money this time round.

That location of the lightning port. Apple, do we really have to keep the mouse like this to charge it?!

Yep. It pretty much embodies 'form over function.'

They couldn't be arsed with putting the port on the front, like every other rechargeable mouse has. Nope, instead you have to turn it over/sideways, and stop using it. So you can plug in the keyboard and keep using it while it charges, but not the mouse? Mmmk.

Might as well get the trackpad instead.

It looks like I can order the 27" at $1799, upgrade to 1TB flash and 16mb of ram for a total of $2090. Selecting the $1999 base model and adding the 16mb option brings it to $2199. The machines specs look to be identical at that point but upgrading from the $1799 model saves you $100 bucks. Am I missing something?

The GPUs are different. Whether they're worth it is another matter.

In what universe does a computer cost 600 € more if you only have a 512 GB SSD instead of a 1 TB HDD? These BTO options and the lack of user upgradability and expandability are so outlandish.
Apple has always charged about twice for SSDs what you could get them for from third-parties. At least the SSDs that Apple currently uses are absolutely top-of-the-line in regards to performance. With the new iMacs, Apple now uses four PCI Express 2.0 lanes for the SSD. It previously used two PCIe lanes. This is the same change that happened to the 13" MBP earlier this year.

What do you pay for a high end ~500 GB PCIe SSD these days? OWC sells a 480 GB one for $440. In Germany, Conrad sells one for €460. You can get a 2.5" SATA 500 GB SSD for €200, but it will be noticeably slower.

Thunderbolt 3? USB 3.1 type C (reversible) generation 2? Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad with built-in USB 3.1 hub? SDXC reader UHS-II maximum speed (300 MB/s read/write)?

Families with kids buy desktop computers. It's MUCH better to watch what your kids are doing when you have a desktop computer set up in the living room where the rest of the family is.
Never mind that kids playing computer games is quite common these days - and desktops are a hell lot better & cheaper for that.

I wish they had a none chiclet style keyboard. The flat keys and overall layout hurt the hell out of my hands. Unfortunately I am relegated to the Microsoft Natural 4000. Nowhere near as pretty as the Apple keyboard, but at the end of the say at least my hands aren't on fire. You would think a forward thinking company like Apple would pay closer attention to ergonomics. I guess flat and thin is more important.

Did Apple say the batteries are non-replaceable? Every other Apple device with lithium-ion batteries has replaceable batteries. I'm sure the same is true of these.
Apple are so full of **** sometimes.
There is no mention here of Keyboards/Mice/Trackpads. What they do say however is;
If you need to charge your battery more and more frequently, it might be time to service it. For products with built-in lithium-ion polymer batteries, the batteries should be serviced by Apple or an authorised service provider.
Now when the battery on my car goes tits up, I’m pretty sure that the main stealer doesn’t dress up the phrase ‘your battery nees replacing’ as, ‘Oh we can service your battery and it’ll be fine'.

Thats probably why the iPhone Lighting dock has no back to it. Wonder if the magic mouse 2 will fit on there lol

WOW, this is more than greed, this is pride... imac 21 - old broadwell, intel gpu only (same intel **** for retina and nonretina), still spinner, like, REALLY apple? and killing non retina 27incher... wow:(

The Broadwell desktop version was released in June. It came available in shops in July. There is a medication for ADHD available...

I was interested in the new magic mouse, but seeing it has no force touch, it is not usable while charging (yeah let's put the port on the bottom, great idea!) and it is more expensive.... no thanks! :)

Other than that, I agree that shipping 5400rpm hard drives is a shame because they will be a significant bottle neck. Apple should keep itself to higher standards than this.

Rechargeable AAs are still the better option. You can use them until they degrade and then replace them (versus the mouse itself). Also, because of where the connector is, you can't use the mouse while it's charging so if you're at an iMac, you'd better have a backup!
To be fair, I'm not sure why you can't just charge your mouse when you're not at your Mac.

They must really want a Mac then, because to those people I'd say buy a PC.

I maintain that the ridiculous form-factor of this iMac is over the top at gimping its performance, considering it's a desktop computer.

Go price out a similar performing 27" i7 HP all in one with only HD screen and no Fusion, just regular 7200 RPM. Guess what? Pretty much the same price.

Here's pretty close to direct comparison. And comparing BH price to Apple direct price! The HP, non-retina, slower processor, slower gfx, non-fusion drive, cheesy keyboard and mouse, is $100 cheaper.

Just tried to purchase one of these new iMacs with 5K and an i7 4Ghz processor. Apple sales and tech support say the current processor for this lineup, is still Haswell.

Quoted (Gabriall):
PROCESSOR

Processor
Intel Core i5 (4690) or Core i7 (4790K) ("Haswell")
Processor Speed
3.5 GHz (Core i5) or 4.0 GHz (Core i7)
Architecture
64-bit
Number of Cores
4

Those are for previous model, not this one.
