Sadly, you could upgrade the memory on 21.5" iMacs as long as you dig deep. I want Tim Cook to go f*** himself and stop with his utter greed.

24GB SSD for a 1TB Fusion Drive? WHAT KIND OF BULL IS THIS? AND FOR 120$?
Lighting connector on the BOTTOM of the mouse? WHYYY? Also, I really wish Apple updated the wired keyboard. At least it is being sold.
The reason they get away with this because interviewers are afraid, (or not allowed), to ask such questions when given the chance.
Imagine a good and well respected tech reporter discussing the new iMac 5400 HDD with Tim/Eddie and the other useless one who is always at the events, cursing that decision and asking how for almost no extra spend on the part of Apple that a premium 2015 computer might actually perform like one.
That reporter would never get another interview with anybody important at Apple.

Thats probably why the iPhone Lighting dock has no back to it. Wonder if the magic mouse 2 will fit on there lol
I doubt it, the Lightning connector on that dock is angled. Unless the female Lightning plug on the mouse is also angled, it won't fit.

My only issue with the current bluetooth keyboard is that things get really hinky when you have multiple keyboards (e.g. one at work, one at home). Sometimes the MacBook simply fails to recognize one or the other after shutting down and restarting in a new location, or after sleeping in one location and being woken up in another. But I suspect that is a Bluetooth issue on the laptop, not something with the keyboard.

Everyone who waited for skylake must be breathing a HUGE sigh of relief. Nice upgrade to the processor - more speed, less heat!

Shame about the AMD GPU, though. Would have killed for nVidia.

No we are pissed. Not TB 3 and $600 for 32GB of Ram The $700 for the 1TB SSD is bad enough. This gives me little hope for the Maacbook Pro upgrades. I'm going to look at the Surfacebook some more.

Surface Pro and Book would have killed it if they had USB-c docking station and TB3.

Skylake was to bring TB3 to Macs. Is Apple giving up on TB? So that TB2 is all we are going to get. Is TB the new Firewire?

The anti-Apple crowd was waiting to pounce on this article to pretend to be upset Mac users... this forum is a joke now

It would be a joke if no one took a critical view. If Apple makes good product, why is it so hard to argue that it's good?

I've always been an Apple fan, but Apple, like any company that has gained huge market power, has lost its way. It's not the same Apple that broke new ground years ago. They're even chasing Microsoft designs these days.

The mouse is just crying out for an inductive charging pad. Why on earth would I want to move from replaceable batteries (for which I already use rechargeables) to built-in ones? That's just silly.

Is this really what MacRumors has become? There is so much hatred and negativism as to make these threads unpleasant to read. It's become simply an opportunity for those who love to complain and moan and groan to express themselves. Read information and discussion is almost gone, and I'm almost done with this nonsense.

Accessories really don't provide any substantial upgrade, except for the trackpad, but prices increased across the board. Keyboard and mouse only offer integrated batteries now and maybe a redesign, but no new features. Was hoping for the keyboard to at least be backlit, but I can see how that may be an issue since it runs on batteries.

Apple has always charged about twice for SSDs what you could get them for from third-parties. At least the SSDs that Apple currently uses are absolutely top-of-the-line in regards to performance. With the new iMacs, Apple now uses four PCI Express 2.0 lanes for the SSD. It previously used two PCIe lanes. This is the same change that happened to the 13" MBP earlier this year.

What do you pay for a high end ~500 GB PCIe SSD these days? OWC sells a 480 GB one for $440. In Germany, Conrad sells one for €460. You can get a 2.5" SATA 500 GB SSD for €200, but it will be noticeably slower.

Where are you seeing this? Has four lane PCIe been confirmed for All SSD options?

Some really amazing updates here. I'm kinda blown away by what Apple has launched today with only a press release.

Price is reasonable for pretty much everything considering all the amazing technology included with every product. The new keyboard and trackpad look incredible and are essential upgrades for all Mac owners.

The new iMacs are mind-blowing to me I'm definitely in for a new maxed out 27" Retina.

I agree with others it's disappointing that the 21.5" iMac still ships with a loathsome 5400rpm drive. They really do make a Mac run embarrassingly slow and I'm surprised Apple wants that kind of performance associated with a premium world-leading brand.

I love Apple, but seriously i think you overdosed on the cool aid dude...
You mention "amazing tech" but really there isn't anything amazing in majority of it. Other brands have machines that are twice as fast out there for half the price (lets forget about the apple software & ecosystem). I'm talking about the hardware itself. Memory is under spec'd and way over priced. SSD should be standard or least fusion offering 128 GB cache with 1TB storage for the prices they are asking for. The displays themselves are gorgeous, however you can't use them in display target mode. So what a waste of a display once the guts are outdated.

The new keyboard really should have been backlit. All their laptops are, so why compromise on a desktop version in 2015?
The new trackpad looks decent but $200?! lolz all the way to the bank on that one.
If Apple were a company that innovated they would have released a magic mouse with Touch ID and a force feedback function.

Anyway..... i will end with this.

I can't expect Apple to release the hardware as cheap as you can when buying gear for a custom built PC or even from someone like DELL etc. Apple make their money on the hardware as the software is pretty much free. So yes, i get that... But what they are asking for what you get is seriously a rip.

Not trying to attack you either dude, i guess i just picked on your post. Haha :)

Wow those prices are crazy! Logitech sells keyboard and mouse (wireless) for $14.99. I've had mine working for 7 years strong. While the Apple wireless keyboard is sleek, I can't justify spending $100 when it doesn't have anything going for it other than looks. I mean $100 keyboard can get you backlit, audio controls, extra function keys, etc by other vendors. This is worse than Apple Tax.

~ $300 if you buy them all. Sheesh. I'm buying left over stock of the older stuff to have as spares.

Where have you seen this? Couldn't find any mention on Apple's website, but it's insanely poor if true.
The old 1tb fusion drive came with 128gb SSD and the upgrade cost $250. They seem to have introduced a cheaper upgrade by significantly cutting down the SSD storage to 24gb. This makes it similar to hybrid drives sold by Seagate. $100 for this upgrade is ridiculous. They should have made this free as part of the base config and allowed customers to pay more for a 128gb version.
My biggest concern is Anand Shimpi was a strong advocate for Apple to improve configurations and I remember him recommending Apple provide a 256gb fusion drive option as well. Anand, if you're reading this please tell Phil that a 5400rpm drive or a 1tb fusion drive with 24gb would have earned a really poor review from you.
Be the change agent you set out to be...

Dude you've SAID IT! My thoughts exactly!
EVERYONE SHOULD SHARE THIS COMMENT & SPAM Apple's EXECS WITH IT!

It's worse than a fail. It's the end of the Mac if they keep this crap up. Apple can't seem to make up its mind if it wants to do USB-C or just plain Thunderbolt DESPITE the fact Thunderbolt 3 makes the move to USB-C permanently (somehow I suspect Apple will be the only manufacturer on Earth that will keep the Mini-Display Port connection just to tick off every Mac user out there (save the fanboys; nothing Apple does EVER ticks them off; they jump for joy at every misstep!)

The Lightning connection makes no sense what-so-ever unless they are planning on unleashing mice and external trackpads for the iPad (yeah that would make wacko sense). The REAL reason is that they don't want to admit that the Lightning connector was STUPID to make in the first place. It's only USB2 speeds and USB-C makes it 100% OBSOLETE in every respect. So why aren't they designign for USB-C when it's the future of both desktops and mobile platforms everywhere on the Earth??? Why did they bother to put USB-C on a Macbook only to not use it anywhere else when we KNOW that the whole world will soon be using USB-C ports for everything (including Thunderbolt 3).

Why does Apple make 4K and 5K type machines and then not give them enough GPU power to do anything but drive the GUI? (and even THAT was choppy as hell on many machines until El Capitan and Metal came out!!!)

Apple seems obsessed about getting their high-end models down in price at the cost of functionality (3rd rate GPUs; old hard drives, AMD anything....) and yet they've got a Mac Pro that once again just sits there becoming completely out of date, overpriced to hell and not upgradeable even for the video card because they insisted on using custom connectors instead of an industry standard internal slot (guaranteeing you can't make one into the ultimate gaming Mac unlike Mac Pros of years past that were at least up-to-date for the year they came out and could be made into an actual useful desktop for non-pros even if it meant over-spending). Now there is no "high-end" Mac. They're all two-bit compromises for markets that didn't ask for them or want them. It's really unreal how stupid their design decisions are. Maybe number Johnny Five should have spent more time in engineering and less time making flat ugly graphical changes to OS X!

How HARD is it to simply make a machine that has an up-to-date i7, 16GB of ram standard, a REAL GPU (like a NVidia Maxwell capable of actually driving a 4k/5k display at usable frame rates) and standard SSD drives of 512GB or greater internal? Is that really such a hard thing to make? Or would their massive profit margin simply price the machine out of the stratosphere? Given we KNOW Thunderbolt III is just around the corner with all kinds of new goodies, I can't see why anyone would want to buy a new Mac right now that didn't have to, let alone one with a Broadwell chipset in it when it's already obsolete.

What I really want to see is a Macbook Pro 15" model with Thunderbolt III using USB-C ports (plus a couple of USB3 ports included on-board for usability without a hub) and the capability of using an external high-end graphics card for gaming and the like (whether or not it's running OS X or Windows through Boot Camp). In that case, the included GPU wouldn't be as important since it would likely be docked for gaming and finally having a way to upgrade the GPU for such uses would mean the computer isn't obsolete in two years (since CPU upgrades are typically slow and not needed whereas GPU improvements make life or death for frame rates in a short period of time).

In other words, I want ONE Computer To Rule Them All. That means no more desktops but a notebook that can plug into a hub and become a real desktop with one USB-C plug and Thunderbolt III bandwidth. The iMac is not needed with such a computer becoming available nor any desktops except for specific power uses (leave that to a properly made Mac Pro). But Apple seems unaware of such possibilities just like they are blind to offering touchscreens for those that might need/want them even if it's just in Windows mode (so they buy a Mac instead of a PC and thus generate Apple profit instead of losing a sale).

Ah, but Apple makes money (even if it's mostly from phones and the like), screams the fanatics! Therefore they are 100% right at all times! LOL.

Wow. I knew the new accessories wouldn't be great, but I didn't think they would be this bad.

Just a few cons:

- what happens when your $100+ device's battery dies? It's useless unless you give Apple more money.
- you have to tether them to charge them. This is the whole thing these devices were meant to avoid.
- they're way overpriced compared to the older models that had the same functionality (no, force touch is a gimmick to most people)

I already have two sets of the old keyboard and track pad, I'll be buying up more, since the future looks grim for this category.
Send me a PM. I'll sell you mine.

Why is RAM DDR3 despite Skylake CPU in the 27? Couldnt bother drilling a USB-C in there. Not much of a upgrade. Maybe due for a redesign next year...

And while they are at it, redesign the fruit logo to a bean one.
