Is this really what MacRumors has become? There is so much hatred and negativism as to make these threads unpleasant to read. It's become simply an opportunity for those who love to complain and moan and groan to express themselves. Read information and discussion is almost gone, and I'm almost done with this nonsense.

True to some degree, but Apple isn't without it's faults. Plus, our passion of Apple products is what makes expectations so high.

BTW, I think it's a bit more civil here than AppleInsider.

That location of the lightning port. Apple, do we really have to keep the mouse like this to charge it?!

My guess that there is one reason, and one reason alone as to why the port can't be on the top of the mouse...and we all know what his name is and why.

But wait, there's more: the status light is on the back of the keyboard/trackpad! That's so convenient!
And how convenient to have a different physical form incompatible with the previous ecosystem.

My guess it that Apple do not want to upgrade the iMac with new ports and design before they do it with the Macbook Pro and Air.

Can someone tell me how the Trackpad is useful? Anyone use it? It seems like it would be harder to do precision work vs. a good ole mouse (I've had difficulty using the magic mouse, as it's the most uncomfortable mouse I've ever used)

Well, just find a forum that has a pro-Apple apartheid policy, and you'll be able to read without those beastly dissenters.

I guess the fact that every other product/company/whatever forum has the exact same issues isn't relevant here, since we're talking about Apple, and we all know what that means.

OUCH they are expensive!!! I knew Apple doesn't do cheap but £2,500 for a top iMac is a bit pricey for me, looks like my 2012 iMac will have to last for a little longer, and have to get my new job soon to pay for new stuff. £109 for a trackpad way expensive :L but will probably end up getting one in the end

Yeah, but you can sell your current iMac for £800 probably. It's not like buying a new PC where your old one is completely worthless!

The reason they get away with this because interviewers are afraid, (or not allowed), to ask such questions when given the chance.
Imagine a good and well respected tech reporter discussing the new iMac 5400 HDD with Tim/Eddie and the other useless one who is always at the events, cursing that decision and asking how for almost no extra spend on the part of Apple that a premium 2015 computer might actually perform like one.
That reporter would never get another interview with anybody important at Apple.

Let alone the reporter, the entire news outlet will not get anymore pre-release stuff (i.e. controlled leaks and product for review ahead of release) from Apple. Apple's control of the media is well-documented.

$300 more for a 27" 5K display, faster CPU and a discrete GPU? Seems like a no-brainer to skip the 21.5" and go for the base 27" 5K iMac.
Except that some of us like the 21" size. So we're basically just SOL.

The anti-Apple crowd was waiting to pounce on this article to pretend to be upset Mac users... this forum is a joke now
Well I've been using macs since the 90s and been on this forum since '03. Been posting about looking forward to these iMacs for a year. But the fact is that these upgrades, especially with respect to the 21", are utter crap. Apple just badly dropped the ball on this, especially with the last update coming in sept. 2013.

The fact that Apple is installing 5400rpm spindle drives into the brand new 2015 iMac's means they really no longer care about user experience! I expect any new iMac with the spindle drive will seem to perform worse than the baseline Macbook Air.

Can you tell me the opposite? Maybe you have the right shaped hands but I find mice painful to use and the trackpad a joy. Maybe you don't scroll alot. That's 80% of what I do and the trackpad frees you hand to do in a way the Apple mouse doesn't.

I've been wanting to get a Magic Mouse for my Mac. So should I just get the first Magic Mouse for cheaper, or is the MM2 worth 80 dollars ? That's a lot for a dang mouse.

Is it just me or is the new keyboard and trackpad uglier? It doesn't really matter, but I loved the smooth back edge of the keyboard and I liked the silver look of the trackpad.

The new ones look sooo much better. Way sexier without the battery tube.

Bye then……….. (Although I bet you are just posturing and that you’ll be back).

A tough pill to swallow is the DDR3 RAM, otherwise the 27-inch retina iMac is everything (and more, hello Magic mouse 2 and keyboard!) I wanted to replace my 27-inch iMac mid 2010. Too bad, going to order one!

It has skylake, it will support ddr4 if you upgrade it youself.

So in other words it's impossible for you to do your work on these new iMacs right?

Thanks for the confirmation. This worries me. It seems Apple either knows what doesn't sell that well or is trying to upsell us.

  • Making the dGPU people fork out for a 27 inch to get a dGPU.
  • Not giving us an option for an extended magic keyboard, only the compact one
  • No force touch on the magic mouse 2. It'll come one day though
I don't know if I like how Apple is doing things. Apple give us way to many iPad SKUs and a mountain of watch band choices, but in it's core iMac and peripheral the options are severely limited. This makes me seriously think what to do now. As what I wanted - 21.5 with dGPU (I don't need retina) is not in existance anymore. I think I own the latest model 21.5 with a dGPU.

I think this is making all of us iMac people think long and hard over these new developments.
The thing is, it's not just a case of paying more and getting 27 inch if you want dGPU. For me, 27 inch is not suitable for me as its way too big for my desk, plus I don't need to stare at a screen that big - 21.5-inch is more than adequate for my needs. However, as I do some moderate gaming on my existing 21.5-inch, I feel I need that dGPU! So unfortunately Apple doesn't have an option meeting my needs, and surely my case is not unique..
