Wow, with VAT the new Magic Trackpad 2 is only $170.
For $170 you can:
- Buy 20% of a Mac Mini
- Buy a Thunderbolt Port extender with multiple outputs.
- Buy a new AppleTV
- You can feed your family for a week (unless you prefer to eat out).

What is Apple thinking??? One day their price bubble is going to burst. In this economy, I don't expect people to keep tolerating high prices on equipment that no longer deserves it due to its poor specs.

Send me a PM. I'll sell you mine.

Thanks for the offer, but they're going for $49 online, new and delivered, which is pretty good considering warranty and that I won't catch cooties from your keyboard.

I disagree completely. From experience, a Wii U, Xbox One or a PS4 are MUCH BETTER and CHEAPER options for gaming.

A certain top 5% of gamers want high-end specs and require a PC for that. But they're also shelling out tons of money every year to stay on the cutting edge.

A console unit costs $300-$450 upfront (and lasts 6 years), then about $150 a year in games. A high-end gaming PC is MUCH MORE expensive.

And their huge game collection may not run in the next console they buy.

Just out of curiosity what do you all do with non-spinning drives? I've got 4TB in one mini, 3TB in another, will soon have 2TB in my MacBook and all for about $450. How much SSD can you buy for $450?

$/GB for SSDs right now is anywhere between $0.30 - $0.50. I recently bought an Intel 730 Series 480GB SSD, which is pretty near top of the line, for $220. That's at the higher end of $/GB, but it's Intel, so I'm paying for assurance. So for $450 you could have at least 960GB of PCIe 3.0 SSD performance.

MR, help me with your fantastic advice.

Which one would you keep, the early 2015 iMac 5K that has a 128gb ssd + HDD

or

Would you return and get the new 5K iMac with a new processor, new display tech, magic mouse 2, magic keyboard, better graphics card, BUT 24gb ssd + HDD?

Thoughts? I will not be updating the 2TB to get the 128gb cache as 2TB is overkill.

Any help would be great!

So? They still have the old console when they buy a new one.
Most people trade their old console, or wait to upgrade their old console until it breaks. '
Well, if you play SuperMario, using a Computer as a Console makes no sense.
Otherwise, a Computer performs much better than a Console. Does it cost more? Sure, that's why it's for serious gamers, not for toddlers.

'In this economy' - what is 'this' economy - the one YOU live in, or the one the KARDASHIANS live in?

Hint: It's both.

$129 is nothing to me. I spend $100 here and there about 3-4 times a week on dumb stuff. $129 is a LOT to many people. But 'In this economy' means nothing. Some people make a lot, some don't. Apple is betting that there are a lot of people that are in the good part of the economy who will buy their high-end products.

Can someone tell me how the Trackpad is useful? Anyone use it? It seems like it would be harder to do precision work vs. a good ole mouse (I've had difficulty using the magic mouse, as it's the most uncomfortable mouse I've ever used)

I only have one connected to a mini that has all my video stuff on it connected to my TV. I just run Finder with it and watch whatever.

I just couldn't survive with such little drives (video stuff). I did see one of the new MacBook Pros boot up in a surprising amount of time, but it just made me think what's wrong with an OS that it takes such a fast drive to make it boot in a reasonable amount of time?

Magically more expensive :(
it's by no means an entry level model, mate...
Well that's pretty crap. Keyboard and mouse are no improvement at all, trackpad is the only thing worth upgrading.

As for the new retina 21.5" iMac. 5400RPM HDD?! Is that honestly a joke?
That's the only part I really don't like ... 5400RPM on a 1800€ computer ?

Of course it does (even if limited) the MacBook Pro had force touch for almost a year ;)
introduced in March with the Macbook and Macbook Pro 13" ... not even 7 months

Probably thought about a dedicated GPU in the 21" but they asked Ive and he started on and on and no one knew what he was speaking about. He went on pompously for another hour till they figured to just not use a dedicated GPU. Rumor has it Ive is still speaking (Pompously)

Update is okay, nothing great, nothing horrible. I would like to see a thin (Ive would love this) bezel design and Nvidia GPU's personally. The 980m would be really nice in the high end model. Still good all around on the lineup. Could be better, but they are going to be non-aggressive till forced to move.

I can't believe how $$$ these accessories are.. I was waiting to buy a new mouse and wireless keyboard but at least for the keyboard certainly not at this price.

the keyboard is nearly TWICE The price of the previous keyboard and the trackpad is at least twice the price. That makes no sense, the hardware is just not that pricy.

Apple products always command a premium, but not a FERRARI level of premium.

Is this really what MacRumors has become? There is so much hatred and negativism as to make these threads unpleasant to read. It's become simply an opportunity for those who love to complain and moan and groan to express themselves. Read information and discussion is almost gone, and I'm almost done with this nonsense.
I agree there is a lot of hate, but such decisions are unacceptable for a company like Apple.

I personally think they're junk. I haven't liked an Apple Mouse in years. I use a Magic Trackpad with both of my Macs, but for mice just go Logitech.
I 100% agree here. Trackpad is by far the best day-to-day option and I use it on all my Mac's (except Mini that is a HTPC so nothing connected, remote only). I have a Logitech MX Revolution (older) mouse for a mouse if needed.

Why not ditch the Fusion Drive completely and get the new 5K iMac 27" with an SSD Drive. This way you no longer need to rely on hybrid technology with a mechanical hard drive that may break at any time.

Or... you may always upgrade it to SSD later on at OWC.

Looking at the 21inch: No thanks, with these specs I prefer a fanless Retina MacBook (although I'll wait till it supports Skylake and 16GB RAM).

Looking at the 27inch: No thanks, with these specs I prefer to pay a bit more and get a Mac Pro (but I'd wait before you didn't update it in more than a year).

In conclusion: the new iMacs make me prefer other Macs which in turn are awaiting an update. Disappointing, I was considering a new iMac but because I thought this update would be a powerful one.

So it's $100 to go to Fusion drive. Mac Mini still costs $200 to do the same. At $100, why would ANYONE not do this? In terms of percentage of total cost of the machine, this was more relevant in terms of the Mac Mini, especially in previous versions where you had to upgrade from the base model to be able to get Fusion.

Yep just $200 more for a computer with no screen, that makes sense!
