That location of the lightning port. Apple, do we really have to keep the mouse like this to charge it?!

There's two facets of this, that haven't been mentioned before in this thread:

1) When the battery eventually dies (and it will die) there's no way to continue using the mouse. For the keyboard and trackpad, there's at least the possibility that they can be used in wired mode after the battery dies. No so with the mouse. Way to go green, Apple!

2) I suspect the reason that Apple did not place the port in the front of the mouse is, that it could encourage people to actually use in in wired mode from the outset. With Apple's legendary track record of fraying cables (because "**** industry-standard cable relief solutions") they could expect customers to show up every 6 months asking for a new lightning cable.

Can you confirm this? I cannot find any reference on the Apple site, and I have contacted Apple (chat and voice) and one says Haswell, the other couldn't find a reference. I'm waiting for confirmation before I buy one. Also, I know that the Skylake processor allows for 64Gb of RAM, but you can only get an iMac with 32Gb.
Press the link i attached..again here for convenience.
Dnder performance it says:

"A fifth-generation Intel Core processor in the 21.5-inch iMac. An all-new sixth-generation Intel Core processor in the 27-inch iMac"

Skylake is the sixth gen.

Well that's pretty crap. Keyboard and mouse are no improvement at all, trackpad is the only thing worth upgrading.

As for the new retina 21.5" iMac. 5400RPM HDD?! Is that honestly a joke?
Now a days SSD are pretty much like a standard. Its #shame on apple to still stuck with #spinning disks on premier (at least 3X costlier) desktops!! Should we call it #greedy? Same goes with iPhone skipping 32Gb models! lol

I will be honest, I hate my magic trackpad because I use it with a wired keyboard and I hate how often I have to change the batteries on the trackpad. With a mouse I understand wireless but with a trackpad and keyboard that I am not moving around just give me a wire please

Is there a chief that could help me decide which of the 27 models I should go for?

I'm studying graphics design and would mainly use it for Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver and photo apps. I mostly do my gaming on Playstation so that isn't a major factor.

I'm wondering which model would give the most bang for buck with regards to the above, but also with regards to resale value, as I'm thinking of selling it after 1-2 years, buy a new iMac --> repeat process. This way the hardware will more or less always be up-to-date and I won't have to deal with trying to sell a busted up relic every 5 or so years.

Any thoughts?

I ordered 27" with 4GHz i7 Skylake.

Question, I plan on upgrading from 8GB to 32GB myself. Since it´s Skylake chipset, do you guys think it will be possible to install DDR4 memory? I would think so?

I would have waited until OWC and iFixit get hold of them to find out those questions.

And for crying out loud, put an Nvidia gpu in the darn thing!
I've the feeling that avoiding NVIDIA in the current product line has something to do with Metal. I'll always prefer NVIDIA over AMD, but it seems we'll be out of luck. And 3 to 5 years from now, even no AMD: just Intel. And 7 to 10 years from now, no Macs at all, just iPads, iPhones, Watches, glasses, shoes, trousers, handkerchiefs, and donuts.

I know the euro is in bad nick, but the Apple's pricing is getting completely out off hand now. I can kinda laugh off the 240,- Euro 16GB RAM Option (An Aftermarket 2x8GB Kit is around 80,- Euros) but prices on the basic stuff for me is no laughing matter anymore. I think I'm gonna use my i7 2012 Mini for longer than I anticipated. Let's hope there is some approvement in the future.

Technically the iMacs are lackluster specs as always. DDR3, Harddrives, TB2, no Type-C.

I'm glad that I don't use any of Apple's Input Devices so I'm not getting worked up about the pricing on those, ergonomically there are MUCH better and MUCH cheaper Options out there.

The 27 inch is an important investment. Considering they're not offering impressive hardware at that price, I'd wait for a Mac Pro update, pay a little more but get a better computer that will stand for more than 5 years.

What's up with the hashtags, are you like 13

I suspect the price increase is partly because your paying for a built-in battery versus buying your own batteries or Apple's rechargeable battery accessory.

Am I getting something wrong or is the new graphic card actually worse then the last one.

Hey peeps,

Would it be possible to use a Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter with my Mac? I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro that only has Bluetooth 2.1 EDR. The requirement for the new Magic Trackpad is Bluetooth 4.0. Is this a possible workaround? USB 2.0 has more bandwidth than BT 4.0 can use so no data bottlenecks. I'm also running 10.11.

You can replace the Bluetooth module in your Macbook Pro. I did with my 15" Early 2011 Macbook Pro. Mac Rumors had an article a last year on it. Around 10-23-2014. It was when Handoff was induced. I bought the Module off E-bay. Its the Airport Extereme module which has Bluetooth build in. You want the BROADCOM CHIP # BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX.

I really wanted to upgrade my (2011) 21.5" iMac, but these new models feel like downgrades. No expandable RAM, No discrete graphics, 5400 RPM drive, 1.6 GHz cpu. Not willing to spend the money. I have been disappointed with Apple's iMac lineup the past 3 years, and getting closer to giving up on them.

Compounding the disappointing "updates" to the Mac Mini last summer, I think Apple has lost its way on the desktops. Starting to seriously consider Windows and saving a ton of money.

Now the thing I really don't understand is why the hell would Apple advertise their Metal for OS X (or even develop it) if there're next to no Macs that could satisfy gamers needs anyway?

Even when the GPU is the same model, performance varies from card to card. Clock speeds and throttling characteristics are chosen by the integrator, in this case Apple, to fit their own performance/power/heat requirements.

In this case the M395X is a rebadged version of last year's M295X, so assuming Apple uses the same clock speed as last year's iMacs, performance should be identical.

Figures, I just got my hekseskudd tray last month. I knew there were rumors of a new keyboard, but naturally who knows if those actually come true half the time. Guess I'll have to see if I can get anything for it on eBay. Or maybe I'll toss it up in the selling forum.

I might be wrong (please show me otherwise) but did Apple just turn its peripherals into disposable items? Do we just throw away the keyboard and pointer device after 4 years when they stop holding a charge well? This strikes me as not eco-friendly at all.
When your battery dies, PM me before you throw it away. I'll give you my address and recycle the devices for free!
