Is there a chief that could help me decide which of the 27 models I should go for?

I'm studying graphics design and would mainly use it for Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver and photo apps. I mostly do my gaming on Playstation so that isn't a major factor.

I'm wondering which model would give the most bang for buck with regards to the above, but also with regards to resale value, as I'm thinking of selling it after 1-2 years, buy a new iMac --> repeat process. This way the hardware will more or less always be up-to-date and I won't have to deal with trying to sell a busted up relic every 5 or so years.

Because you are student (?), and you are certain (?) that you don't want 21.5", I'd take the cheapest 27" retina model and customize it with 256GB SSD disk on it. It will be powerful enough, because you have no plans for gaming. If you were a heavy industry Photoshopper, extra power, disk space and ram could save your working time.

So, basic model + 256GB SSD CTO and if you still have money, buy external storage.

UPDATE: If you want faster GPU than the basic model, it is actually just 80 € more. Choose the middle model, and change the fusion drive to 256GB SSD. The price difference is only 80 €.

Am I getting something wrong or is the new graphic card actually worse then the last one.

I was wondering just the same thing. I have the M295X variant, with some thermal paste re-apply magic. It works pretty good.

Really strange if they dont upgrade the GPU or use the ones from nvidia who draw a lot less power.

Still thats a pointless upgrade then... why on earth would Apple want to downgrade the typing experience?
downgrade ? Did you actually try that keyboard ?

Not a chance. If you buy a 4K display and plan to game with integrated graphics you'll be disappointed.
If you buy an iMac to play video games you are buying the wrong computer ... All this whining about iGPU and at the end what's the matter ? games !
Are all of you 15 yo or something like that ?
I'm shocked ...

I'm not happy about some aspects of these new iMacs, like the price and the HDD, but most of the whiners here are just kids wanting a computer for gaming.
The iMac wasn't, isn't and won't ...

Regarding an earlier comment about running OS X in a VM on non-Apple hardware, it has been pointed out to me that the OS X EULA forbids this in the same way it forbids Hackintoshes. Apparently you are allowed to run your copy of the OS on one Apple computer and in up to two VM installations only on Apple computers that you own. So, if you want to legally run OS X it has to be on Apple hardware, no matter how bad it might be and even in a VM.

Miiiiiiiiiight get the trackpad for force touch. Keyboard is way underwhelming, if my Apple wireless ever crapped out I'd go third party. And I refuse to believe anyone actually uses the Magic Mouse.

Please do explain why
1) I can not use my Mac for occasional gaming if I'm over 15
2) I am buying the 'wrong computer' for wanting to do so?

How does that justify the removal of dedicated graphics in the entire 21.5 inch lineup? Gaming is just one of many tasks that would hugely benefit from it.

You can replace the Bluetooth module in your Macbook Pro. I did with my 15" Early 2011 Macbook Pro. Mac Rumors had an article a last year on it. Around 10-23-2014. It was when Handoff was induced. I bought the Module off E-bay. Its the Airport Extereme module which has Bluetooth build in. You want the BROADCOM CHIP # BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX.
I grew up in Cincy :D

Did this enable Handoff on your Mac as well?

Most people trade their old console, or wait to upgrade their old console until it breaks. '
Well, if you play SuperMario, using a Computer as a Console makes no sense.
Otherwise, a Computer performs much better than a Console. Does it cost more? Sure, that's why it's for serious gamers, not for toddlers.
An iMac isn't a gaming computer ... is it so difficult to understand ?

I agree there is a lot of hate, but such decisions are unacceptable for a company like Apple.
half of the haters here wouldn't have bought an iMac in any case ...

Still need lights to see where the keys are?
So then the backlit keys on the MBP are a moot point? Mac users are often creators and by extension often work late into the night. At those prices backlit keys are a very welcome and expected feature.

I'm typing this from a Surface 3 with type cover. It's not magical, but it runs a full OS, has a keyboard so magical Apple had to copy it, and costs a fraction of the price of comparable Apple products.
And it's ugly like Hell, just like the OS it is running ...
Sorry mate, personal opinions

So Apple makes the $1799 model with Retina display now and I just bought the older model one month ago. Greatttt. It's my own fault though. Oh well, still love my iMac.

No Apple is not doomed, but his points are spot on.

Just because someone critiques apple's decisions means the company is doomed. I mean we're spending close to 2k after the dust settles and Apple thinks no dGPU, No USB-C, a 5400 rpm drive is sufficient?

No USB-C ? Seriously, is that so important now ?
No dGPU ? Seriously, the only reason most of the whiners here are screaming are video games .... on an iMac !?! Even my wife knows the iMac isn't a gaming machine.
5400 rpm drive ? Absolutely agree, it is totally unacceptable .... 1 Tb Fusion should be the base model.

The really upsetting news in my opinion is the price of the Magic "line" of input devices: $40 more than acceptable.

I think the general consensus is that the 5400rpm option should not even exist. Apple throwing this in as the baseline just so people will upgrade seems like the worst of tactics to get people to upgrade.

I'm in 100% agreement. I'm not a desktop person so I haven't paid attention to the iMac line, but I naturally assumed they all (even the base models) had SSDs as standard, much like the macbooks as of a couple years ago.

When I saw that the base model included not just an HDD but an HDD at 5400rpm I almost choked on my coffee.

This iMacs have a GPU, is integrated but it's a good GPU.
The only task it isn't very good at is gaming, on a 4K display. So if you want a computer for gaming you are looking in the wrong direction.
Every other task, the integrated GPU can do.

Please tell me what you are expecting? A new form factor will probably come next year.

Just seems like Apple hasn't come out and "wowed" me in a while. I loved the first few days when I bought my watch, but even then the "wow-ness" quickly went away. I guess I've just been spoiled by all the goodies that Apple has introduced in the past and I have always expected them to come out with better and better products.
