They REALLY need to sort out their UK pricing (yes I know about VAT etc). It's so off now it's ridiculous.

Does A10 Fusion = A10X Fusion? Or is there a difference...
Curious if leaving out the "X" means the chip will be any different from the iPad Pros.
Thoughts?
A10 is what was in iPhone7, quad core cpu, 6core gpu. Plenty powerful, but lags signifcantly behind iPad Pro 10.5.

A10X has 6core cpu, and 12core gpu.

They are also doing fill in the blanks for spelling and writing. So to do some of that either you will need to program everything

I mean I see where you’re coming from but you’d still need to re - “program everything” to switch over from the traditional pencil/paper method to be compatible with an iPad/Apple Pencil method.

For your specific example I agree. As soon as they start getting into typing up paragraphs or short essays I feel like a keyboard set up would be better as far as preparing them for the adult world.

That being said, as a parent if making a one time purchase of an iPad and pencil would save me and the school a couple hundred if not thousands of dollars over the next few years by not having to buy as many supplies(or donate more money) sign me up.

Well I don’t think they are there yet but I see this as a step towards that. I took my son’s algebra curriculum and put it in electronic format - except for the darn worksheets. This was back in 2011. Today, I would have him just do worksheets and email them to me. I think I went through a whole ream of paper just on the workbook. The apple pencil works extremely well and the eraser is much cheaper ;)

Why would having GPS on a non-LTE model be a buying decision factor? Without LTE, you would assume that the iPad will mostly be kept close to a stationary WiFi network.

Travel. Having downloaded maps without a need for cell service. Works especially well outside the US. Some apps are also able to use it (GPS) for plotting locations. On my Ipad 3, I do not use the cell service when traveling but do use its GPS/Compass. Last, for those of us with bad eyes mapping on the Ipad is much easier to see than on an iPhone.

This is just comically pathetic on Cook's part. Rather than giving schools and students what they actually want and is actually useful to them they once again double down on iPads and fall even further behind Google and Microsoft. Give students a laptop with some ports, something they can hook a usb drive up to and detach it and plug it into a workstation computer at school. Don't give them some toy and cloud storage Timmy. Students don't want that as is evident by the fact that iPads have been universally rejected in the classroom.

Let me think about it. Oh yea, a case! Yup, that’s it!
Yes because after spending 299$ for an iPad which is so fragile that the school administrator needs to pony up more money to buy case for each of them. And those good quality cases will cost around another 100$ each.. so please tell hw much the total price for owning an iPad in the school environment? Then those nagging updates..

It supports Apple Pay but has no NFC with reader mode.

I thought that starting form now Apple would start rolling out NFC with reader mode support, but apparently not...

Maybe I am wrong.... but who have you seen using a tablet to pay at a NFC reader? I’ve only seen watches and phones because they are small and convenient. Tablets are quite larger.

I think it's a great product for the price. The addition of the A10 with pencil support makes it an excellent value. Of course they wouldn't give you the excellent iPad Pro display for this price. Comparing this to all of the previous 9.7" iPads, there has never been so much value for such a low price. You had to pay $599 for a 32GB iPad 2 or $729 for the cellular version. $329 and $459 are great prices and they will eventually be discounted.

For those with a 5th gen $329 iPad there's nothing to see here. For those with an older Air 1, Air 2 or older, this is a great upgrade especially for those who don't feel like paying MacBook Air prices for an iPad. For education it's simply a great product. More expensive than some ChromeOS and Android devices but the iOS experience is worth the price imo. Apple includes lots of useful stock software. iMovie, Garageband & Swift Playgrounds are great for kids. Note taking is made better with the pencil.

The new 9.7” iPad does NOT have:

- ProMotion
- Wide color P3 display
- True Tone
- Smart Connector
- OIS
- 4K video
- Second-gen Touch ID
- No Laminated Display

I mean come on Apple, could not even spring for second-gen TouchID?!?!:(

Given that announced today, I wouldn't think Apple would be keen to introduce it [in] a school environment—or in public for that matter. How exactly is any of this going to make them predominant within education again?

Speaking of which, while technology is near unavoidable in this day and age, and dealing with and learning various aspects of it are advisable—there is a proper time and place. One could argue, and I will, that particularly in their formative years our students would be best served using only plain paper and #2 pencils. Or a return to the past with a good sound classic education, with beyond reading, writing and arithmetic, being conversant in the humanities.

Just maybe then they could have some hope of context and using this exponential growth of technology towards the betterment of all.

Amen, that is part of the downfall of our society! No one knows how to speak to each other person to person anymore. Most people are in their own little bubble, with their head down looking at a screen all day. If you do talk to someone, say if you are out in public, they look at you like you are crazy. They would prefer you friend them on Facebook, and message them that they dropped five dollars vs. telling them in person. It is really getting to be annoying!

It is supposed to be a more affordable iPad. Given the education focus today, I would say that this iPad is more geared towards kids in school and consumers who are on a limited budget.

Unless you absolutely need apple pencil support I don't see why a comparative 2017 iPad model with possible more storage for the price wouldn't be a better option.

Huh? This is the same price as the outgoing model with the same storage tiers. 32 GB and 128 GB. You're getting a faster iPad with Pencil support for the same price. How on earth is the 2017 model a better option?

Or someone like me who isn't on a limited budget but just doesn't want/need the Pro. The Pro is also ever so slightly larger (although admittedly thinner). Yes you get a larger screen with that, but I really like the size of the 9.7 iPad. It's just a really great value all around for anyone.

The 2017 iPads will be on clearance sales in the immediate future. Iirc, Costco had the 128GB 5th gen for $299 (or might be $329).

Seems a LOT of hyperbole on your part. The new iPad has an A10 and M10 coprocessor. Pencil support. Assume it will be Hey Siri unplugged capable (2017 was not). I was not a fan of the 2017 model. This one will be $299 for consumers very soon. For what it now offers its a good price when you consider the competition in this range. I'm not sure what else you were expecting for $329.
It’s a joke. Why is everyone so serious on this form. Lighten the F Up!

So less than a year and now my expensive ipad pro 10.5 is worthless?
[doublepost=1522199611][/doublepost]A10 vs A10x are they the same thing being practical?

My post was based on the assumption that the 2017 model will be discounted. I just found a 2017 128gb for around $300. This is also assuming the apple pencil isn't a requirement.
