How dare a company release something that isnt a premier niche product that fits only my needs

Agreed. Why sell a billion units for $349 when you can offer something developed in a wind tunnel for much more and sell a few hundred units?

Does anybody honestly buy Beats headphones anymore other than to satisfy some aesthetic appeal?

In my opinion, they feel really cheap and flimsy and the ones I've had in my hands (1-2 years old) were really damaged and half-broken, the cord's isolation all ripped and the hinge feeling absolutely horrible.

Why not invest the same money into real quality headphones from the likes of Beyerdynamics or other similar manufacturers? 350$ can get you some really fine Hifi-gear...

I got a pair of studio wireless 3 a few months ago. There are pros and cons to every headphone. For beats I'd never pay retail. In Bestbuy or Amazon from time to time you can get Studio around $200

I had a pair of plantronics wireless headphones. They sounded good, less than half the price of retail beats, good noise cancel, had great range and features. They were too bulky for my taste though and in the end the padding in the ears started to come apart.

I tried (not purchased) Bose QC 35 II. The noise cancellation was good, durable, but sound for my music taste was not good.

Quality is subjective. Also usability and integration with other apple products is a big thing for some. For me, at $200 I'm happy with them. Also I had Studio 2 the wired version and after they broke swore I'd never buy another pair of beats. So yea just wanted to end with that contradiction to everything I just said.

Agreed. I totally assumed they would sound bass-heavy and muddy, but they sound much more neutral than any other set of beats I've tried. Not the best headphones in the world, but not the steaming pile of garbage that many beats have been in the past.

And.... $249.99 from Costco right now, if you like the matte black version!

Completely agree. It's really puzzling. Sony is using USB-C on the new 1000XM3s. BeatsX use a lighting connector. AirPods are obviously a huge hit. Why would a brand new model of headphones not use USB-C or lightning. Unless there are warehouses full of unsold beats headphones that have been repainted, repurposed, and re-marketed, this is just poor product management.

Well, the minute you switch to lightning for these cans, you lose a lot of android customers. And USB-C is hardly ubiquitous right now. I imagine there are market surveys that show diminishing returns on what various market segments will tolerate/demand....

Good points. It is also a a little bit of money that adds up to a trillion later. Adding a very small amount of cost to shrink your base isn't good business.

Wow.
I am a fan of Apple but their prices are getting stupid. I mean really stupid.

These headphones cannot possibly be worth this much money. Reviews abound about how Beats in general are just 'meh' in sound quality.

So, the only reason is the name?

I just can't believe Apple, with all their money, cannot create a great product and price it so more can buy it.

I already invested in headphones that are at least 7-8 years old and they still work great. No brand name to show off, just a 100$ pair of audio-technica noise cancelling phones. Don't need the Beats name to add 200+$.

That price tag is a joke, right?

350.00 bucks... god damn that's crazy.

That's how they been priced!
I would be shocked by these prices only if I had been living under a rock for the last 4 years.

Getting to be typical of Apple, add color to the same old device.

And what exactly is wrong with that? Some people do prefer different colours? Are options not good now? Given, you are not forced to buy one.
(though your original comment was about "increased price", which goes to show how people in this forum like to comment a negativity with their heads in a "sand" without having a clue)

I love my beats studio 3, didn’t pay retail but then who does? Love the convenience and ease of switching between my devices. Best thing is switchable NC which the studio 2.0 didn’t have. I have always preferred the audio you get from the Studio range, not as bass heavy as earlier models.

They may be 'decent', but for that money you want excellent! Try these instead -

"Excellent wireless sound quality, impressive noise-cancelling and a rewarding user-experience make the PX a fantastic audio package. In a world dominated by bass-heavy fashion brands, that’s something to be treasured."

No thanks.

Still uses USB-A. Switch to Lightning or USB-C for charging.

Still uses Apple W1. Apple Watch Series 3 has W2, Apple Watch Series 4 has W3.
It's really strange omissions. Especially the old-style USB port feels outdated.

I always felt the Beats acquisition was a mistake. I have seen nothing yet to overturn that impression.

It wasn't a mistake, they didn't buy the company for the earphone business. They bought it for the Beats streaming service and all the customers that were subscribed to it at the time. It really helped boost Apple Music's numbers when they were merged.

If you want a really really great pair of headphones look at V-Moda, I even buy them wired. Superb sound and outstanding design. Much better than these hideous things.

I seriously considered the new grado bluetooth model, but the ear pads are apparently garbage, pairing with multiple apple devices would be a pain, and it's open so it will annoy my coworkers. There are always tradeoffs. :)
Grado stuff sounds incredible! For the home those would be perfect but out and about, pretty useless.

Noise cancelling Grado :)

I didn't read the entire thread, but approximately zero commenters here realize that for many consumers, headphones are more about fashion than they are about sound quality. They want to buy headphones that make them look a certain way, or like a certain person. Perhaps it's the same people who would buy a $500 pair of basketball shoes or whatever. Believe it or not, these fancy (and awful, IMO) colors are often enough to persuade a purchase over other brands which may only come in black and white, for instance.
