Interestingly, I purchased the Shadow Gray almost exactly a month ago from Best Buy... Maybe these are only new to Apple direct sales?

Some of these have been available. I saw a few of them at B&H on-line, and one of them (probably the shadow gray) in Best Buy. Didn't realize they were "special" at the time.

I have an old pair of Sony MDR-V600 studio headphones. To remove the ear cushions, you simply stretch it over the headphone body, as seen here:

The replacement cushion slips on the same way.

I lost quite a bit of respect for Beats Solo and Studio headphones after seeing that the ear cushions are glued on and require prying off in order to replace:

My Bose QC's are on there last leg with warranty, So I'm looking for some new over ear headphone may just grab these..
Why? My Sennheiser Momentums are over 3 years old and as good as the day I got them. Used basically every day. Well made product. I expect to be using them for another ten years.

I am a fan of Apple but their prices are getting stupid. I mean really stupid.

These headphones cannot possibly be worth this much money. Reviews abound about how Beats in general are just 'meh' in sound quality.

Just remember - Apple shoveled a B-I-L-L-I-O-N dollars (I think) Dr. Dre's way for Beats. They have to get their money back somehow!!

They made that back, and then some, on Apple Music which derives from Beats. And they didn't raise the price of the headphones, so what are you talking about?

Imagine trying to use wireless headphones for 10 years. Your battery would crap out by the 2nd year and youd have a pair of headphones that are about as good as tits on a bull.

I've got the same pair... they're great. But I still think the Bose AE2 have the best comfort (I have those as well).

The sound on these things is incredible. Other Beats headphones don't really do it for me -- tho admittedly, I do use a paid of Powerbeats3 in the gym, and they are great in that environment. But these Beats actually do have a great sound profile.

I get it that folks are put off by the price, but the pairing tech is probably the main differentiating argument in their favor. Is it worth it, for the sound quality and the pairing? Entirely subjective. But if you are worried that these cans will sound like 'typical beats' then put your mind at ease. In my opinion (I'm no expert but I've used a lot of headphones, from different price points), these are awesome.

And.... $249.99 from Costco right now, if you like the matte black version!

It depends on the type of music you listen to if you like hip-hop, r&b or most modern popular music Beats has the ideal sound profile.
No. A quality pair of headphones should be transparent and accurately reproduce the sound spectrum from the original disc or flac file.

Agreed. I totally assumed they would sound bass-heavy and muddy, but they sound much more neutral than any other set of beats I've tried. Not the best headphones in the world, but not the steaming pile of garbage that many beats have been in the past.

Exactly. I don't buy Bluetooth headphones.

Apple will introduce over-ear ANC headphones in due time, which will appeal to the "Bose" crowd; i.e. a more mature/business-oriented audience. If there's one good aspect about these Beats it's that they do have an attractive design. In my opinion, they're more attractive than the Bose or the Sonys with which they compete. But Beats has a stigma attached to it—that it prioritizes style over sound quality and that it is geared toward a young audience. So the combination of Apple's attractive design language and elite branding should provide older or more business-oriented customers an alternative to these Beats.

They do look good.

UGH!!!! Not the kind of "Apple releases..." article I've been waiting for! Where's the new iPads Apple? Please! You're 10.5 design is stunning... (And my wallet is ready .. . .. .. .. )

Why is it that the BeatsX only gets the Lightning cable still?

Apple, you’ve owned Beats for a while now. Drop the micro-USB already.

Completely agree. It's really puzzling. Sony is using USB-C on the new 1000XM3s. BeatsX use a lighting connector. AirPods are obviously a huge hit. Why would a brand new model of headphones not use USB-C or lightning. Unless there are warehouses full of unsold beats headphones that have been repainted, repurposed, and re-marketed, this is just poor product management.

It's not a brand new model. Just new colors of the same model.

Ahem...these are $349.

I would bet money the terribly named "Surface Headphones" are actually well engineered and sound better than the Beats Studio3 Skyline.

I showed my wife and her first word was gaudy. She asks if i was buying a pair and if they are as good as our Grado's, simple answer hell no!
I seriously considered the new grado bluetooth model, but the ear pads are apparently garbage, pairing with multiple apple devices would be a pain, and it's open so it will annoy my coworkers. There are always tradeoffs. :)
