That's how they been priced!
I would be shocked by these prices only if I had been living under a rock for the last 4 years.

And what exactly is wrong with that? Some people do prefer different colours? Are options not good now? Given, you are not forced to buy one.
(though your original comment was about "increased price", which goes to show how people in this forum like to comment a negativity with their heads in a "sand" without having a clue)

Yep no clue glad your here, that said how about updating the W1 processor or maybe switching to USB-C or lighting connector but your their target market buy another pair to get a different color.

Skullcandy makes an amazing bluetooth headphone called the Hesh 3 for $99 and you can get it as low as $60...that has better sound quality and more comfortable than these. This is amazing.

I showed my wife and her first word was gaudy. She asks if i was buying a pair and if they are as good as our Grado's, simple answer hell no!

....I have Grado's (325i 50th anniversary edition, and Alessandro MS1e and MS2i), they're definitely far more my flavor than Beats (I have Solo 2 Wireless) as I prefer the sound of open headphones -- but in fairness to the Studio3, they're not competing for the same use case as Grado headphones, so a direct comparison ("better" vs "worse") isn't useful as a generality.

The top ANC headphones are horrid when wired. These are priced the same as they are, and they are plastic too.

But the ANC on the Studio3 isn't anywhere near the level of the top ANC headphones (Sony WH1000XM3, Bose QC35 II), so it'd make more sense to compare them to the next tier of ANC headphones like the B&O H9i (over-ear) and H8i (on-ear), which do not apparently sound horrid at all when wired. (I do have a pair of Parrot Zik 2, which are probably the world's biggest joke when used passively -- which I never do except the one time I did for kicks to test it.)

Are they even Bluetooth 5.0? And micro usb? Haha kinda pathetic beats have never been Apple quality not sure why they purchased them just for two dudes and their music industry connections.

Because they've already profited billions of dollars from the purchase, through Apple Music alone?

No thanks.

Still uses USB-A. Switch to Lightning or USB-C for charging.

Still uses Apple W1. Apple Watch Series 3 has W2, Apple Watch Series 4 has W3.

Yes, this puzzles me. I'm sure the W1 chip is still up to the job, but why is Apple selling premium headphones with 3-year old technology inside?

As for comments about these not having good sound quality, you can't judge a book by its cover. We have no idea what engineering has gone into these over previous models. The sound quality may indeed be top of the class.

As for the price, yes expensive, but no different than past models, no? The Pro models sell for $439 here in Canada.

I'm so confused about what upgrades everyone is clamouring for with the W1 chip... Can someone elaborate on what specifically you're looking for other than a 2 or a 3 for the sake of a higher number after the W?

because 3, honestly though I do enough work at work to being doing it on here too. Not trying to be a jerk at all but you know where to find the answer your looking for..

I get it. 3 is higher than 1 and volume knobs that go up to 11 are louder.

Apple advertises W1 chip as "seamless switching" between Apple devices. What they don't tell you is that it can take 20 seconds or longer to complete the switch. Sometimes it fails to switch and requires a second attempt- With the AirPods, anyway. At this rate, there is little advantage compared to regular Bluetooth headphones. Also, many non-Apple Bluetooth headphones can already pair with multiple devices - some as many as 8. Of course, people will point out that the pairing is not automatic like W1. But this will not be an issue for everyone.

What I'd really like to see are headphones that actually remain connected to all the different devices without having to switch between them. I want to have my headphones on all day and be able to hear all my devices at the same time instead of switching back and forth.

I have an old pair of Sony MDR-V600 studio headphones. To remove the ear cushions, you simply stretch it over the headphone body, as seen here:

The replacement cushion slips on the same way.

I lost quite a bit of respect for Beats Solo and Studio headphones after seeing that the ear cushions are glued on and require prying off in order to replace:

Apple stuff started going to **** when they started gluing stuff. Just look at the naming scheme in the mobile/ipad area. I think may be a correlation between glue vapors and apple's declining image.

Huh? The naming scheme has sucked from the 3GS on. What does that prove?

Exactly...I'm in the market for high-end headphones and I'm waiting for beats to upgrade/refresh their line with W3 chip, better ANC and better sound on the level of Bose.

I am not a big fan of over head headphones either. I got a pair free with my already discounted MacBook pro last month and debating with myself if I should sell them or keep them. I love my AirPods and not sure if Beats Solo 3 would benefit me.

Well, to be fair, the W3 has BT 5.0 which has twice the speed, four times the range, and even lower energy usage which means longer battery life. BT 5.0 has been shipping in iOS devices since the iPhone 8/X. Having a W3 chip without WiFi for headphones would be useful and something we're likely to see in future AirPods.

If more speed and range means more bandwidth that could mean better sound over wireless since you would't have to truncate the sound.

Every night. I see players with Beats on all the time.

Here's Odell Beckham warming up a month ago with some Beats on.

Here he is again last week:

When's the last time you watched sports?

Those are sponsorships. Players get paid to wear Beats.

The Apple Watch is a computer.

The iPhone is a computer.

The iPad is a computer.

Am I missing something?

They meant back when they used to make incredible computing hardware, like this stalwart:

I also think better range could mean better battery life because it won't need as amplified of a signal when it's closer, BUT I don't know exactly how these work, it just made logical sense to me.
