Um, does this replace the current iCloud for Windows app that is distributed through Apple File Update? The integration, while not perfect, is something I rely on daily.

Yes it does. Now includes selective sync.

I have downloaded the version from the Microsoft Store and installed it over the Apple one. All went smoothly. No need to sign in again. Now all the items in iCloud Drive have a cloud status icon next to them and a right click option to "always keep on this device" or "free up space". This is the same as OneDrive, as in the article.

Most people don't want/need or can justify purchasing a Mac. iPhone users with a PC will massively outnumber iPhone & Mac but a factor of at least 1000 to 1.

Given that (depending on which study one picks), macOS computers are between 7% and 20% of computers, I would say that, at a maximum, about 13 to one and could be as low as 4 or 5 to one. Nice try though.

Man, Windows Explorer is a great file manager but boy is it ugly. It becomes even harder to ignore after using macOS for several years.

I personally cannot stand Windows file management. Never have, never will, especially after switching to the Mac in '01.

But it is fast. I find the ...um...Finder to be painfully slow most of the time in comparison.

Actually, Windows in general feels like a faster OS to me. I guess there is a cost to all that pretty in macOS.

visually, yes, duhh. or do you fancy the windows aesthetic?..
I do. Its much better than MacOS visually imo, esp cartoon dock with animations. What a joke!

I can't install this on windows as it says I need to register a device on MS first. Nevermind...
It likely means you need a windows ID--which you create with your first device.

As far as I can tell this update also breaks Firefox bookmark syncing. It claims the extension isn't installed when it is. Google still works.

I also tried uninstalling ... rebooting only to find it still there next to the clock asking me to sign in. :/

I will go back to dreaming about selective syncing and mind my own business as I should.

GGrrr... won't run on my ARM based Acer even under emulation, I'm so fed up of having to use onedrive - Thanks for nothing Apple!

Ironic that iCloud for Windows now has selective sync but iCloud for Mac doesn’t!

Are you using the May Update Windows 10 v1903 ?

I guess you could consider this selective sync. In my mind I would rather decide which files and folder actually show in iCloud Drive, not just whether or not to sync them locally.

No. Just no. The Mac might account for a higher percentage of sales in the US - maybe 10% max. Globally there's no way the Mac reaches double digits.

Here is one estimate that puts it at 9.77% globally. The numbers for the U.S. show around 20%. However, even at 5% it is still 19 to 1, so your statement of 1000 to 1 is just absurd.

I find Finder to be pretty fast at least with NVMe’s and APFS. I would say performance is about the same as Windows. Quartz is optimized well and performs well even on the weakest integrated GPUs.

That is good to know. I'm on 2011 Apple hardware running Sierra, but I'll be upgrading to High Sierra soon and see if that improves things a bit (although my SSDs aren't NVMes).

Works good with Outlook mail, contacts, calendar. However iCloud Drive for windows kept telling me there was corruption after a while and to disable and reenable iCloud Drive. After two times I decided to disable permanently and will continue to use OneDrive.
