Releasing a bunch of apps only for the iPhone, even if that lasts "only" a year or two (or more) before Apple releases them for the iPad and macOS, might be a misguided attempt to get more people to buy more iPhones.
There are at least 50 non-Apple invitation apps in the Apple app store, and most are free. Some lock-in indeed. The goal is to continue to lock users into the walled garden as much as possible. This app continues that vision. Simple as that.
Why is Apple even competing in this space then? Sherlocking is low effort drossThere are at least 50 non-Apple invitation apps in the Apple app store, and most are free. Some lock-in indeed.
So one actual subscription and a whole bunch of not likelies. And why would you buy a bunch of AirTags if you really just want an Android and the tags that are available there? Honda dealers don't sell Toyotas, it's not lock-in it's what they provide you as a buyer. Buy it or don't.Think about every app, service, feature that Apple has rolled out over the last few years, all of them are designed to lock you in and eventually start extracting recurring subscription revenue from you:
iCloud+ Storage - Subscription revenue
Satellite SMS - Eventually subscription revenue
Apple Intelligence - Eventually subscription revenue
Journal App - Lock in
Passwords App - Lock in
Apple Wallet - Lock in
Health App - Lock in
Apple Music - Lock in
Invites - Lock in
iMessage - Lock in
Airtags - Lock in (if I bought a bunch of airtags and they only work with apple devices, guess what I am not going to buy an android phone)
You really don’t think Apple is drooling over the idea of being able to charge for Apple Intelligence? Satellite messaging is also something they have mentioned people would pay for at a later date. They haven’t reached critical mass yet. It’s coming, I promise. So one actual subscription and a whole bunch of not likelies. And why would you buy a bunch of AirTags if you really just want an Android and the tags that are available there? Dude you guys forgot there is also Final Cut Camera iPhone exclusive!!This will probably die just like the Journal app.
Yes. I know. That was just an example.Dude you guys forgot there is also Final Cut Camera iPhone exclusive!!
- Journal
- Apple Sports
- Final Cut Camera
- Apple invites
(Theses are recent apps)
That's apple vengeance... Since you guys did a DMAMeanwhile in Europe we're still waiting for iPhone mirroring and other features![]()
It's much simpler than that. Hanlon's Razor. They've sold more iPhones than Macs or iPads.Releasing a bunch of apps only for the iPhone, even if that lasts "only" a year or two (or more) before Apple releases them for the iPad and macOS, might be a misguided attempt to get more people to buy more iPhones.
That's kind of the point. Users are still buying iPads even though we (seemingly unlike Apple) can see how much better they could be with proper software support.Um I have an iPad… which is cool since it’s more portable but I have the Mac for big task ! But anyways they could have made journal, apple sports and apple invites on the iPad come on guys come on…
Please stop lying. And Apple users only as the invited parties have to create an Apple account to join!
Useless feature after all.
Anyone can be invited and anyone can RSVP.So now Android users can't even get invited to iphone users parties?
It's almost worse - Apple shipped an app that installs on iPads, but doesn't support iPad screens, so it comes up in a little index card-sized window in the middle of a black screen, with the button in corner to double-size the window up to more (but not all) of the screen. I expect this from 10 year old poorly supported 3rd party apps, not from a brand new release from Apple. This app is also iPhone only. Apple really hates the iPad.
Android users don't have browsers and email addresses? Wow that is a terrible phone. So now Android users can't even get invited to iphone users parties?
If the email address you enter is associated with an Apple Account it’ll ask you to login before you can RSVP. I just found out with a friend who has an Android, but his email address is tied to an Apple ID because he owns a Mac. He got redirected to an Apple Account login page. He didn’t know his password so he couldn’t continue. We didn’t see an option to go around it apart from using another mail address. Pretty annoying tbh. Please stop lying.
You do not need an Apple account or device to RSVP.
Who knows, maybe it’s the pet project of someone with power within apple.Such a strange thing to be spending resources and time on, given the overall product and software landscape at Apple
Yes, anybody can be invited, but the invited parties do need an Apple account to join.Anyone can be invited and anyone can RSVP.
