Spotify can create their own invite app.Can you only use Apple music play lists?
Would be nice to have the option for Spotify, etc.

I just tried this and it doesn't appear to add to calendar? that seems... less than ideal if so
I have a 11” Android tablet with AndroidOS 14, 90Hz refresh, 2K display, Quad speakers and QLED screen plus 256GB built-in storage and 512GB SD card and cost’s far less than an iPad Air plus I don’t have to be walled into the garden. iPad has longevity but the rest is not in its favour. You're right. Plus. It shows they don't take the iPad seriously in terms of where to focus efforts, just look historically to how it always trailed a year behind the phone for OS level updates. The Mac is "still a platform in their portfolio" but the thrill is gone.
Yep, we don't use any of them.Think about every app, service, feature that Apple has rolled out over the last few years, all of them are designed to lock you in and eventually start extracting recurring subscription revenue from you:
iCloud+ Storage - Subscription revenue
Satellite SMS - Eventually subscription revenue
Apple Intelligence - Eventually subscription revenue
Journal App - Lock in
Passwords App - Lock in
Apple Wallet - Lock in
Health App - Lock in
Apple Music - Lock in
Invites - Lock in
iMessage - Lock in
Airtags - Lock in (if I bought a bunch of airtags and they only work with apple devices, guess what I am not going to buy an android phone)
It is almost like Apple invests in their platform with new featuers.Think about every app, service, feature that Apple has rolled out over the last few years, all of them are designed to lock you in and eventually start extracting recurring subscription revenue from you:

If you want Android users to move to iPhone you’d want the possibilty to include them. And keep the standaard for Calendar invitations in Outlook/Google/iCal agenda’s.Only for icloud+ and iphone? Their decisions are getting stranger…
I use at least five every day.Yep, we don't use any of them.
so I did find option to add to calendar after the fact. that makes no sense, this should be integrated by default imo. Or just make it a feature of calendar...this is messy if not seamless imo.Why would you want an invitation you've accepted added to your calendar?
Isn't it better to have to "remember to attend"?
lol
/s (hopefully obvious)
People justifiably talk about the Google Graveyard... but Apple seems to give them a run for their money.Probably one of those cute ideas that will go nowhere. Discontinued in a few years, I’m calling it.
iPads have amazingly powerful hardware, industry leading in fact. But they are let down by their software so hard it's ridiculous. And also hard to justify buying one for content consumption when options like what you listed exist.I have a 11” Android tablet with AndroidOS 14, 90Hz refresh, 2K display, Quad speakers and QLED screen plus 256GB built-in storage and 512GB SD card far less than an iPad Air plus I don’t have to be walled into the garden. iPad has longevity but the rest is not in its favour.
So they have a billion subscribers; they need to add features for them to use. Not every feature will be used by all billion.Yup -- it's literally "the plan"
Whether many of us will like that and/or be around for it eventually remains to be seen

Is it a feature or lock-in disguised as suchIt is almost like Apple invests in their platform with new featuers.
Fair...
What's not a tradition so much though, and was more my point, is how broad the consensus is on this one
Nah... it's just a normal Apple introduction and reaction. With many feeling that Apple, despite their massive success and outstanding track record, isn't very smart about the products they release.
It's a great idea. Apps like Partiful are doing great with people not wanting to be on Facebook, and other options like Evite and Paperless Post not gaining traction. Why not build a small, easy-to-maintain tool that connects calendars, image generation, messaging, etc?
There is a 1000% certainty that within five years, the app will wither on the vine due to neglect.I have iCloud+, but I think it's hilarious that invite creation is behind a paywall.
It is a fantastic idea, but the lack of seamless integration at the OS level mystifies me- make calendar entries effortless. I think it's at a minimum viable product stage and hope it gets some love. But I have a sneaking suspicion that Apple is so rattled by dumping cash and resources into projects that go long or don't pan out that now they are on this push it out the door kick (camera control, AVP, project titan, journal, Apple Intelligence)It's a great idea. Not really a lock in unless you are planning out events years in advance. Is it a feature or lock-in disguised as such
Clips 2.0 is a possibility for sure with their current track record. In the future business classes will be taught over how wrecked and leaderless/directionless a post-iphone Apple was. I hope they pull out of the horse latitudes because that's where they are and it's a scary prospect. There is a 1000% certainty that within five years, the app will wither on the vine due to neglect.

what good does it do to have the comparable V12 engine under the hood of the rest is mediocre. If the hardware starts to fall behind in 2 years time then I will consider to upgrade and have updated feature sets. Cameras on a tablet are questionable other than video conference but as long as the front one gets the job done then it’s fine plus with mediocre camera quality my privacy is partially protected one can hope.iPads have amazingly powerful hardware, industry leading in fact.
