I mean this is something meaningful. Apple didn't have to do this, and it will help.

But I don't want to pat Apple too hard on the back, I guess it is easier/cheaper to do this, then to reshore jobs, stop using slave and/or poverty wage labour abroad, and reversing complicated tax structures that funnels money offshore and instead contribute taxes at home that could also go to programs (better public education and universal health care) that could also address poverty and racism. Of course most companies are like this, not exclusively Apple, and it would be nice if Apple took the lead to fix that problem.

Like all charitable giveaways very little good will come of it, but the directors and employees will have overpaid cushy jobs. The targeted beneficiaries will get the leftovers.

If you make $100,000 a year and I announce I’m giving your coworker, who makes $20,000 a year a big raise, am I somehow taking something away from you? No.

Same is true here. Opportunities, funding, etc. for minorities lags far behind that for whites as a whole. Does that mean all white people are rich? Absolutely not. But in general being white means access to a lot more opportunities and advantages than not being white.

Apple (and others) are seeking to help those communities catch up, to be able to have a more equitable chance to join fields like programming and engineering.

Put it another way. If we are running a race and I get to start 100m away from the goal and you have to start 200m away, letting you move 100m closer isn’t punishing me, it’s making sure we both have a fair chance to compete. That’s what Apple et. al. are trying to do here, help move everyone closer to the same starting point. It’s a good thing to do. It’s the right thing to do.

I’m not saying that I don’t see inequality, that hasn’t been the point I’m trying to make at all. There are race problems in America and they do need to be addressed and I do applaud Apple for making an attempt but that doesn’t mean that I agree with what they are doing.

As an immigrant to America the ignorance of people here has left me speechless sometimes and more often than not its the college 'educated' types with worthless degrees. Whenever I point out things like Nigerian Americans and Indian Americans (East Asian Indians) perform better than any other ethnic group they call me racist. Or when the inevitable issue of Police shootings comes up and I point out more white men are shot and killed by Police each year despite black males who represent just under 7% of the US population commit over 50% of all murder, again, I'm a racist.
I don't care about skin color, I'm sick of hearing about it. Americans can't see how their media is manipulating them into hating one another. You have ethnically segregated college graduating classes and dorms at certain colleges now, how is that progress?

Exactly my point. The won't because they are worried about the cost of inventory. What they are doing is nice but they aren't being honest. Put stores in these areas without an extra guards with genius bars and all the teaching classes they hold just like in every other area

I worked at an Apple Store in the early 2000's. My store was in the richest, nicest mall in our city. Guess what? Stuff was still stolen. On weekends, we'd hire extra security. Not because it was in 'south-central' - but because it was simply desirable to steal.

I think people should be treated equally. I have friends of just about every race and I don’t think differently of any of them. If people stop looking up skin color and started looking at people as people or human beings things would be different. Treat your neighbors and friends with respect and dignity. Treat their opinions with respect and don’t tell him to shut up or bully them because you don’t agree with them. I have friends that are communist and I don’t try to convert them or bully them because of their political affiliations. Respect people. They’re publicly traded but I don’t think that prevents them from doing whatever they want with their money. I guess their shareholders could sue if they feel it’s not in the best interest of the company but other than that I don’t see a problem. Race relations went lower during Obama's reign. Can you guess why? Because correlation does not imply causation. It's because certain folk did not enjoy having a black man as president and became angrier and angrier and blamed that man, as the billionaires continued to laugh and take their jobs offshore, all whilst setting up news networks and paying politicians to spread their message of how it was the evil socialist communists' fault. It's like something out of a Scooby doo cartoon, but it's a real tragedy.

That's false, it was many of the same forgotten about people in the rust belt and fly over states who voted for Obama, found he didn't deliver for them and then swung the other way and voted for Trump. There's a great Youtube documentary on it where they go and talk to the people in those areas.
