Just like the good old AirPods Pro with the rattling issue. I’ve had three replacements so fa because of a design flaw, but once it reaches 2 years, no more replacements so I’ll be stuck with a a malfunctioning product.
That sucks. Although an AirPods is cheaper to replace than an iPhone … but still not the kind of premium customer service that Apple bragged about.

No wonder we have so many issues to resolve and nobody has a plan or willingness to tackle. Why? Because of this exact mindset: We ********* up now, and we will leave this to the next generation to resolve.

Too much more would be off-topic so no more from me.
I thought I outlined the plan? The next generation can use the same plan! I don't want to get off-topic either, didn't mean to if we have already.

Some of us remember when there existed Guarantees, then it became Warranties, now its Warranty only good if you pay a deductible, what's next?
If it gets too bad we can just build our own Apple but call it something different. Apple knows this so they will only make it just bad enough that we don't build our own Apple

I can understand defects. Nothing can be 100% perfect of a mass produced things. The problematic part here is Apple’s unwillingness to just do a recall, and instead provide a very short term program to cover it. This is in contrast to, eg for the 6 Plus Touch Disease, Apple repair program covers it to 5 years.

This can only mean that Apple thinks fixing their own mistakes is no longer worth their extra time nor money compared to before. Deplorable for a company bragging about customer satisfaction and support, and charging premium for it.

Huh? Apple didn't cover the touch disease issue at all. They charged $150 for a "repair" that was a board swap for board that still had the defective design and would develop the same problem.

The only way to get it fixed was to send it to somebody like Jessa Jones who would not only reattach the chip to the board but also add a metal stiffener to prevent it from ever happening again - for the same $150, it was a much better deal.

Respectfully, America isn't like the rest of the world. In America, if you can't afford an iPhone you can sign a contract and get a payment plan for one. That's called freedom. In a developing country, if you can't afford an iPhone you just don't buy one.

Thanks to the magic of freedom, I have a house, a car, an education, a phone, sets of furniture, computers - none of which I can technically "afford". But as long as I keep my job, the economy does well, and I don't have any emergencies or health issues or unplanned events, I get to "have" them. And if that isn't happiness, what is?

So anyway maybe this 2 year repair plan is just designed for the discerning American consumer
Being locked in debt doesn’t really sound like freedom to me.

Where's that guy that was complaining on another thread that MacRumors doesn't report on Apple product faults? Here's yet another example for you.

This is BS. Majority of people in the world don’t have these kind of contracts. Most people keep their phones longer than 2 years. Besides, Apple support iPhones software for at least 5 years. Only having 2 years for a component failure is ridiculous. Either put an actual recall or have longer coverage. Like I said, the old Apple used to have 4 years for programs like this. But I guess Apple is no longer interested in giving good support for the premium price they’re charging.
Which is why the majority of the world don’t have apple stores or certified apple retailers, and just remember they basically put a lockdown on outside repairs, i get both sides of the argument, but when I buy phones for my family overseas, once it breaks, apple care doesn’t really cover them since and that warranty is only good in the US, since Apple devices are mostly sold in third party stores.

I recommend waiting at least two years. Let somebody else pay full price, find out if there are any problems like this with the model and don't buy one of those if there are.

Phones are a mature technology at this point. New ones never have any new features that are worth paying a premium for. And now we know that the 12 is one to skip, and it's got nothing over the 11 anyway. And no, the fancier camera doesn't count. If I want to take good pictures, I've got a DSLR, no phone is ever going to be able to match that because it's just not possible to put a good lens in a phone. Phone cams are for snapshots, and will always only be for snapshots.
I actually agree with you. I am on Twitter and Instagram sometimes and I observe the phones many use to capture selfies in mirrors. You immediately know its an iPhone 12 because of its design and honestly, its either bad lighting in that bathroom or the quality year over year is just no better. Apple needs to really do something about taking better in door pictures with the front and back cameras. Its shocking how bad the output is. Besides, my iPhone X is taking lovely pictures 4 years later. How much better is a 12 really gonna make a picture like the one I took in Florida? Seriously?

Apple today announced the launch of a new service program that addresses an issue that can cause some iPhone 12 and 12 Pro devices to experience sound issues.

iphone-12-colors-trio.jpg

According to Apple, a "very small percentage" of iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models may experience sound problems because of a component that can fail on the receiver module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.

iPhone 12 and 12 Pro owners who have a device that does not emit sound from the receiver when making or receiving phone calls may be eligible for free service. iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models are not affected and are not part of the service program.

Those who have an iPhone experiencing issues can make an appointment at an Apple retail location, or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider. Apple Support can also be contacted to arrange a mail-in repair.

iPhone 12 or 12 Pro models that have damage that impairs the ability to complete the repair, like a cracked screen, will need to have that issue fixed prior to receiving service. Apple says the repair program covers affected iPhone 12 or 12 Pro devices for two years after the first retail sale of the device.

Seems to be happening to my iPhone 12 mini...even though it says the Mini isn't included...

who needs a speaker.. after eliminating the jackplug, the speaker can be discarded as well, same for the microphone, no use for talking to an iphone, we all have earpods now..

in the near future there's no need for apps, so a screen seems to much of a good thing.. we ll could be buying a unibody alu block with an apple logo for $1330

Being locked in debt doesn’t really sound like freedom to me.
More like locked into really neat stuff. The debt is a problem for future me, and there are so many like me that if I ever can't pay it I'll just get bailed out. Why would I not just finance everything that I want? I am a microcosm of my country

a very small percentage of icloud users were accidentally reported to the FBI for kiddy porn. If you were accidentally effected please contact your closest apple store for how to get your case over turned.

Ah yes my bad, they still charge you for replacement .

They just can’t make a device without issues can they
There will always potential for issues in a mass produced device. The important part is how you help and support your customers when things broke. Apple used to excel in this part from what I read, but nowadays, repairs and services have become another revenue generator for them instead (selling applecare, charging expensive repairs for design faults, etc).

Fairly significant production period, that is going to be a lot of devices failing prematurely.

My last phone, the 5, had two different product faults marked against my serialed device. It was a real pain that was only made worse by Apple and their corporate policies. The two faults were with the power button and the other with the battery. I had the button replaced while travelling in Beijing from an uncertified repairer (possibly authorised retailer). I only found out that it was actually a product fault when the battery began to fail a short while later. So I contacted Apple about the battery after finding out through google and a hard to find apple-hosted page that would verify issues against serial coded devices, just to find out that it was such a hassle being so far from a certified repairer in Tasmania. They tried to make me have device down time at my expense, or tried to make me pay the full retail cost upfront (which was more than the current RRP value from Apple, much more than I'd even paid for the device at that point under contract and really a significant amount) for a device replacement, stating they would reimburse the difference of value after assessing my device for cosmetic damage or other issues.
I figured that was basically entrapment so I replaced the battery myself for $9 Aud. I don't remember the asking price from Apple to do this basic service (it was free at the genius bar for my model at least), they tried to make me drive accross state (admittedly Tas, so only hundreds of kilometers) to receive any kind of acceptable service.
I think they had some way to reimburse third party services for known faults, but it was made difficult and I was never successful.

Apple's service for their known hardware faults, classic QA problems with basic components, is terrible. Unless you can get to a select store front, don't mind device downtime of at least several weeks or can immediately buy the device for it's original full price without minding the principal of doing so, then you are stuck with a paperweight. Fixing it is a needless cost and nuisance which real premium products and brands avoid.

Good luck to iPhone 12 users. If I were you, I would make a point of ensuring repair or replacement before the end of this small window. Oct-Apr is going to be many millions of devices, they can put out hundreds of thousands per day. Sounds like a bad IC, no way to know how widespread the issue is, how likely it is to occur and when or why it fails. All info that should be supplied upfront, just as you should receive an email when your device ID is flagged for manufacturing defect. Instead they are playing the game, still, where those who get the issue pay to get it fixed or happen upon the repair program if they're lucky. Just how little can they care about their userbase? Unless you're happy to do all the legwork paying much of the cost for a factory issue Apple is responsible for, you might not get the chance to realise. Product recall laws, repair policies etc. should reach all your customer base fairly and equally. Especially if the parent company is making as much money as this one.

The only thing bolstering their success at the moment are ****** products bought from people with ****** attitudes who are unaware of the massive benefits that exist outside this constantly greedy ecosystem. There has always been a strong element of this, but the products used to be world class. Now they are just fit for Americans and only for 12 months. It's a pity when the technological leaders lose their way. We're left looking at many subscriptions of ever increasing overlap on boring old school devices with terrible software solutions and a complete eradication of privacy.

Apple has lapsed to and fro between actual innovation with incredible attention to detail to looking like a cheap competitor many times. But it has been on this current trend for too long. It would be appreciated if they could return to former glory and lead the world to great and different solutions again, instead of more of the sad same story.

Is this only applicable if there is “no sound?” I usually use headphones when I make calls but lately I’ve used the just the phone and I’ve noticed the speaker is incredibly tinny and low quality.
Seeing how the warranty is up in a month I’m thinking I should make an appointment at the local store and have this looked at.

I've had this 'no sound speaker' problem with my first 12 pro max. Took my service provider (apple service centre) from October 2020 to march 2021 to actually agree to fix it (change the screen).

It's not just a matter of no sound, sound problems when in speaker mode will make you unable to have FaceTime calls and even invoke Siri (not to mention calls in speaker mode are impossible to have)

Glad to see Apple agreed to this.

While technically there is no requirement to repair a phone that is out of warranty, when a latent design or manufacturing defect exists, they should cover it for more than just two years.

The average replacement cycle for the iPhone is now at four years, which means there are a lot of owners keeping their phones for even longer to balance out those users that upgrade after only one to two years. Apple should cover repairs due to this defect for at least five years. If what they say is true, the usual "a very small percentage..." then there would be no problem with them covering repairs for a lot longer than two years. But of course we've heard "a very small percentage" so many times in the past that no one believes it anymore.

Perhaps this is a way to get owners to sign up for AppleCare+. This has all the makings of a Class Action Law Suit once phones start failing a 2 years+1 day.

I mean nobody can really know how corporate policy is made, myself included. Have you considered lobbying your country's government to make it easier to borrow against your future like we've done in America? Financing everything (car, house, phones, computers, education, furniture, groceries, everything) is a great lifestyle and makes a lot of sense and is very safe and beneficial as long as nothing goes wrong
I don't understand why you think in other counties you can't "finance everything".

is a great lifestyle and makes a lot of sense and is very safe and beneficial as long as nothing goes wrong

Life is long(normally), chances something won't go wrong until the end are small I would say. This is why US has a very large number of homeless people for example.

I can also afford a lot of things and I can easily borrow money but do you know what else I can afford? To lose my job and survive quite a decent amount of time until I find another one. Actually this is what happen to me last year. Not having any significant dept is also quite beneficial.

I am American and have very little knowledge of what you can and can't do in other countries. I know from my limited schooling that generally speaking we have the best government, healthcare, and economy in the world but I don't know the exact details

Life is long(normally), chances something won't go wrong until the end are small I would say. This is why US has a very large number of homeless people for example.
Most of our suspiciously large homeless population are that way as a result of the mental illness that we refuse to recognize or treat in our country, rather than people that went too deeply into debt. Going deeply into debt being a great idea is the cornerstone of our society so we can't allow many examples of that approach going poorly or we stop funneling money to the billionaires and corporations that control our deliberately ineffective two party system of government. I don't understand why you're so opposed to financing all of the iPhones and Macs and houses and cars that you could possibly want - it's great for me, it's great for the powers that be, and the society is built to support it. Perfect alignment of interests

I can also afford a lot of things and I can easily borrow money but do you know what else I can afford? To lose my job and survive quite a decent amount of time until I find another one. Actually this is what happen to me last year. Not having any significant dept is also quite beneficial.
I'm happy that you can afford a lot of things, but for the rest of us common working folks, the magic of freedom and financing exist so that we can have the same stuff you do but without being able to afford it and with the small caveat that if anything goes wrong we may have to declare bankruptcy and wait a few years to start over
