Question: If you're in the free Lion window (bought my iMac ~2 weeks ago), how do you download it without paying for it?

Also, can I download it without installing it, just yet?

//noob

You can download it and, when the download is complete, quit the installer. The installer is in your Applications folder titled "Install Mac OS X Lion.app."

Since I bought a Macbook Pro within the last month, how do I get it for free?

If you bought a Mac on or after June 6, go here for the redemption code:

I miss waiting outside the Apple store

You can still take your Mac, download 10.7, and wait inside or outside the store.

Are we able to purchase a hard copy of this?

In August, you can get it on a flash drive for the low price of $69:

I have three computers, can I upgrade to Lion on all three with just one purchase? How? One of my computers uses a different apple ID for purchases.

Your Apple ID is not linked to the computer. Once you buy it, you can get it from the App Store on the other Mac, and when you use your first Apple ID that you used for the first purchase, it will cost nothing.

Clean Install

I highly recommend that you do a clean install (create a bootable DVD first) instead of an upgrade. I did the upgrade and it overall performance was so slow. The clean install make the system much better.

Where can I find how to do a clean install of lion? Can I create a DVD form the dowonloaded file?

So ummm, I'm using the GM as my OS (as in, I didn't install it to a partition). Does this mean I'm up the creek? Any advice on what I should or should not do? Will I be able to receive updates?

hey guys for lion when i install i dont need to do a back up of my stuff right?
is not going to delete my paralles app right?

Maybe I never paid attention but is this little info center new to Lion? I could swear I never saw it on SL.

Goodness gracias newbies....if you got your Mac recently and it still charged you, call Apple and they will fix the charge....it is that simple

Stop crying about it when YOU downloaded it the minute it came out.

Issues were bound to come up when this was released.

If you didn't know that, you don't pay attention to many major Apple releases.

you can upgrade all Mac's you are "controlling"; as per Keynote from Apple. Different ID might be a problem but if you come with the Boot DVD approach you should be fine ... it should be really your Mac's to stay within the license agreement

It's a nice and friendly article that you wrote there. And you're right, it won't be long until we know whether there will be a 10.8 or something else. I guess next year's WWDC will already shed a light on that.

My opinion: There's a reason why they called 10.7 "Lion". It's the king of beasts, there can't be anything after it. The next Apple OS, under a new family name, will merge iOS and OS X. And it will only allow the installation of software from the Apple AppStore, of course. The first announcement will be on next year's WWDC, the release in the summer of 2013. And I hope that I'm wrong about iOS and OS X being merged and about the AppStore being the only way to install software on that platform, but Apple's next moves have been very predictable lately.

You really are naive and stuck in your mindset where you have to paint Apple in a negative light. You seriously think they will move OS-X to a point where one couldn't install an application like Photoshop because it's not in the App Store? Don't worry we are still very far from your Orwellian future.

So, I'm reading John Siracusa's review of Lion over on Ars and he says that when installing, there are no options for the install other than just selecting the target drive.

Does this mean you can't do a "clean install"? Even if you boot with the extracted image file from the installer? Does that give you the option of doing a clean install? Or do we have to do a clean install of Snow Leopard first, then install Lion on top of it?

known incompatibilities

Anyone check to see if there are any issues with CS4 or Font Explorer?

Done here in Singapore, feels good. But got the say Natural Scolling for Trackpad is alright but using it for the Mouse is getting on my nerves. Thank goodness i can switch it back :D

Trying to install Lion, I got this message:

This disk doesn't use the GUID partition scheme.Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme. But when I go to Disk Utility, I can't change the partition scheme.

Anyone else encountering this?

That happened to my brother's computer. I had to backup everything on the computer, and do a clean install that wiped the drive so that it could be formatted correctly. Took forever.

What did they do to spaces?

in the previews there were still ways to turn them on, now I can't find a way to create any additional spaces in mission control. Is this a hidden feature or is it just gone?

Ah, you add spaces with the mouse in mission control now... ok.

Is that GM or Final release that you just downloaded at the AppStore?

That's what I would like to know, too. I also have Developer's GM Seed.

Guys, anyone, who downloaded Mac OS X 10.7 Lion today from the Mac App Store, perform md5 checksum, please.

Thanks a lot.:)
