Apparently the installer file in Application Support/AppStore is deleted the instant the download is complete, as the installer automatically opens.

So it looks like the method that Macrumors described to copy the installer to other machines and save yourself multiple 4GB downloads doesn't work.

Has anybody had any luck with other methods?

You're not quite correct. The installer file in Application Support/AppStore is merely moved to /Applications upon its successful download. Just look there instead for "Install OS X Lion" :)

in the previews there were still ways to turn them on, now I can't find a way to create any additional spaces in mission control. Is this a hidden feature or is it just gone?

Ah, you add spaces with the mouse in mission control now... ok.

you can create new spaces manually in the upper right corner (+ symbol)

So this App Store version is exact the same as the GM. Which means it doesn't matter if you install it trough the App Store, or the GM download?

Is there anyone that can confirm this please?

So ummm, I'm using the GM as my OS (as in, I didn't install it to a partition). Does this mean I'm up the creek? Any advice on what I should or should not do? Will I be able to receive updates?

Go to the app store and click on buy. It should tell you you already have it installed and ask do you really want to buy it. Say yes and it will begin to do the download if your app store account has funding.

A note of thanks for wanting to the the honorable thing. (unless you are a member of the developer program, then you have already done the honorable thing and should disregard this advice.)

You can download it and, when the download is complete, quit the installer. The installer is in your Applications folder titled "Install Mac OS X Lion.app."

Thanks.

And to all those that say Lion is King... don't forget the Liger...

did you upgrade or clean install? any performance issues after an upgrade?

I just clicked reinstall Lion

It took about a half hour - I was sure I messed up and and lost all my files - I was panicking for the whole time, because I didn't back-up and wasn't sure I could go back with time machine if it didn't recognize my machine anymore but nope files and setting are all here.

I bought a new Macbook pro that is eligible for the free Lion upgrade.

I also have an iMac and my husband's Macbook. Do I need to pay for the upgrade for those two or will I be able to use the same download from the new Macbook Pro?

I don't mind paying but I know that you only have to buy one license for all of your Macbooks and if the free one will work I don't want to buy another if it is not necessary.

Looks nice!
Not a major update, mission control is nice.
Also, i had issues with my wireless mouse (on a MacPro) and i think they finally solved them. Mouse is now as smooth as hell!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

I'm at work and don't have access to the Mac App Store right now. Can anyone tell me how the reviews are/ any issues with upgrading? I plan to install tonight. Thanks. :)

Did a clean install of GM yesterday (just to practice up), and it went fine. Tried to DL Lion from the App Store this morning and it shows this:

...which is interesting. Once the servers cool down a bit, I'll DL the proper copy of it to one of my other computers via App Store and do a clean install, just so I'm not ripping off Apple. $30 for an OS is well worth it.

Here's instructions I used to make a bootable install DVD; worked like a charm:
  • Download Mac OS X Lion from the Mac App Store as usual
  • From the Mac OS X Finder, locate the Mac OS X Installation file that was downloaded, right-click, and “Show Package Contents”
  • Find and open the “SharedSupport” folder and locate a disc image file called “InstallESD.dmg”
  • Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to your Mac OS X Desktop, this is the Lion disk image and what you’re going to create the bootable DVD from
  • Now launch Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/), pop in a blank DVD, select the “InstallESD.DMG” file, and click on “Burn”
After your disk is done burning, you’ll be able to boot from it with any Lion compatible Mac by holding down C during boot up.

I could finally buy it from the Mac App Store, pissed the up-to-date site wouldn't recognize my Mac but at least it Lion is cheap so I bought it instead.

I have two Macs (iMac and MBP). If I DL on one can I then create a bootable DVD to install on the other, or do I need to purchase Lion twice?

I used to be a developer back around the 10.3/10.4 OS's and I would receive a free copy of the latest OS in the mail when they came out. The only thing it lacked was the display box. So the current GM build probably is being considered the same as the App Store release today if they still treat developers the same.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that since the retail version of Lion on the Mac App Store is the same build (11A511) as the Gold Master released to developers, you will automatically receive the updates. You're essentially running the retail copy if you installed the Gold Master.

Since the installer that you used to install the GM is the exact same version (1.0.4) as the installer that you would purchase from the Mac App Store, it recognizes that you're buying the exact same thing again. You would pay $30 on top of your already-free copy. (Free excluding the annual developer fee.)

Done, installation took not much time; maybe 10 or 15 minutes; but have a SSD in my MacMini.

Now exploring the new world of LION (and hope that my NAS via AFP is still working)

A bootable disk is a bootable disk. It will work on multiple computers. Just make sure Apple gets their fair share. ;)

Downloaded :)
I'll first burn that on DVD, I'm not downloading that 5 times...
I'm not saying you shouldn't burn a copy to disc, but you can always transfer the file from machine to machine via FW, ethernet, etc.
