still no email... after about 19 hours...

I guess they sold much more laptops that are eligible for the upgrade than what they were expecting.... or some fools are just trying their luck with non-eligible laptops and bugging down the system :(

this should be easy really - match the serial number with the order number, check the date and voila. I could probably build this with automator or something else :)

I saw someone saying something about backing up information, this isnt going to erase all the programs i already have installed is it? should just install over the other OS. Never install and osx so i have no idea what to expect.

Backing up is a sensible precaution to take at any time, but particularly when performing extensive software or hardware updates.

Say you find that a critical piece of software no longer works, or you just don't like it, you can just roll back to the previous state. You'd be unlucky if anything worse than this happened, such as data loss or a hardware failure.

My suggestion would be at least a Time Machine backup. If you have another spare drive, create a bootable clone of your previous system with something like CCC too.

Edit: I should have said, no, your Lion apps will not be overwritten. Apps for Snow Leopard or earlier may not work though.

Received new codes this morning and they worked. ML is downloading now. So again, if you had your initial code fail, send an email to get them to re-do the code.

Just tried out AirPlay Mirroring between my mini and Apple TV3. Worked like a charm. Had no issues with speed or quality. For me, this alone was worth the upgrade :)

No, go to support on apple. There is a link there to contact apple, and eventually you can email them a description of the issue. You could also call them and let them know that way.

Still no code here either. Really hope it arrives in the next few hours as the wife is away tonight so I'd get to do the u/g in peace :p

hi, it's my first update, how does this work? is there any possibility of gettin the data erased due to the software update?

Been almost 24 hours  and have not gotten my code. Called Apple 6 times, they said they would send it. Resubmitted my claim 3 times, to no avail. Inching closer and closer to just hitting the 'Buy Now' button for ML. I don't want to cough up 20 bucks even if 20 bucks is REALLY cheap for an OS. Very frustrated, not that I can't "Live" without it, I have just anticipated it for a long time. I really do hope they send the email, even though a lot of you said they would send it in 72 hours or so, I talked to 5 apple guys, 1 person twice. They all said they would send the email. My pointer finger has cramps from pushing the refresh button too much :D

If you do an update you *shouldn't* lose any data, but always back up just in case.

I think it's useless complainig at the call center, nowadays something like this SHOULD be istantaneous. I mean, serial number ok, purchase date ok, autoemail back with the secret code...1min perhaps? The reason it's taking so long (I'm waiting alongside u) I think that apple is deliberately holding back all the "free" copys of ML to save server power and give a better and faster experience to the people who are actually paying for it. There is no reason why we (free ML users) shouldn't get the code PREVIOUS to release and be able to download as soon as it comes into purchase...;)

Just installed it. It's a really nice update and really smooth. Love the new look Safari, especially the progress bar. The new dock is also cool.

i accidentally got rid of that code they gave us at the end of applying fro the free software (i purchased my macbook pro on 27th june) so yeah I've lost that thing they say you should keep note of at the end of the application thing...:confused:

Alright thats all i needed to know. I dont have much on my macbook, but enough for it to be annoying to install a lot of the little stuff. I rarely use my laptop
