In the UK Store, I'm getting "This Item Is Temporarily Unavailable" when I try to buy it.

No biggie, I need to vacuum anyway :p I'm sure in the 15 mins that will take, the hubbub will have subsided and the servers will be A-OK, haha.

I'm just going to wait a day or so before I download it! My Internet download speed is only 2mb/s anyway so with this heavy load on the servers it would take forever!

i got this once in the App Store. :)

Downloading Now

Purchased and downloading. I had no issues with the purchase. I am downloading from Australia but via the US store.

Update: WOW! It is flying. already half way done. Remaining will be here in 6 minutes. Total time will well under 15 minutes for 4.34Gb. Yes!

I don’t know, compatibility perhaps? The App Store is the only source for Lion, without it, customers who cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion anymore are stuck with an older system.

good point. maybe it'll only show up if you're not eligable for ml. would make sense, because they obviously want people to upgrade.

Downloading now

Interesting, I'm looking through my "Purchases" in the App store and no longer see Lion... I was thinking I would still have Lion and Mountain Lion in the list since I have machines that can't use Mountain Lion.

Did a quick rough calculation and it seems like I'm downloading at about 4.25MB/s... translating into about 16~17 minutes. WIN!

Same here download should be complete on both my iMacs and air by the time my coffee is done!:)

Update: Many users are reporting difficulties purchasing and downloading OS X Mountain Lion, undoubtedly due to heavy load on Apple's servers.

this isn't "undoubtedly" due to the heavy load, this i undoubtedly due to the piss poor infrastructure at apple's servers for handling major os releases...

The reason isn't because a lot of users are accessing their servers, this is expected in new os releases...

it's because their servers can't handle a lot of users accessing them.

I wonder if Apple would ever consider releasing the updates like this at say noon local time, wherever you are. That way they could spread out the initial hit to the servers. Of course, if you care that much about getting the latest OS in the first hour, you probably know how to fake your location, but it has to still help them out a bit!

What $185?

And JUST IN TIME! Crucial M4 SSD's are on sale at Newegg. $185 for the 256GB version!

Looks like I'm gonna get a new SSD for my old macbook and do a fresh install.

On the Newegg site now. The lowest price for the 256GB Crucial SSD is $214.99

Load doesn't seem heavy at all. I think the links just showed up in the App Store prior to the cache being primed on the servers hosting it.
