1. Mine has staingate but only in the "black" area of the screen (the black border around the LCD), there is no stain within the LCD area, will they still cover it and repair it?

Only one way to find out ;) The coatings on my screen were deteriorating mostly around the outside, where the screen gets touched by fingers most, with some slight key shaped staining in the centre.

2. Do they put in a lesser, dimmer screen? I find the original one already dim sometimes..

My original and replacement screens (15") are both blindingly bright. At work, under fairly bright office lighting, my Macbook stands out in an ocean of other laptops like a search light among candles.

Thank you for the info!!

Here's an update to the Apple Macbook Pro Retina AR Coating issue. Back in October 2015 Apple replaced the screen ($1,400) at no cost under an internal display replacement programme. Only a couple of months ago the same issue started to occur again.

After providing photographic evidence of this issue, Apple asked me to take the system for confirmation to an AASP in Cairns today. 2 hours later Apple Executive Liaison calls me to agree to my resolution. Apple are now replacing the whole computer with the latest model at no additional cost to me. I've had this one for 2 years. N.B. I am in Australia.

Do they accept this in Canada too?
[doublepost=1467379758][/doublepost]I have 2 questions:

1. Mine has staingate but only in the "black" area of the screen (the black border around the LCD), there is no stain within the LCD area, will they still cover it and repair it?

2. Do they put in a lesser, dimmer screen? I find the original one already dim sometimes..

Mine too was just in the black bezel area, in the corners and the webcam and Apple changed the screen. I don't see a difference in the dim from the previous replaced screen.

It's very telling that a world class company like Apple has to launch a "quality program" instead of just doing it right the first time.

Narcissism and Greed reign supreme...

Do the Genius reps know about the Quality Program right away or do you have to insists and show this thread?
[doublepost=1470071177][/doublepost]Is there an official Apple doc regarding this Quality Program? I've been challenged by an Apple rep saying this program don't exist.

I'm reporting that I just got my screen replaced for free, even if the damage was not nearly as bad as the picture in the article.

Late 2013 MPB 15", very satisfied :)

Was it replaced in store while waiting?

No I dropped it off before leaving for holidays. They said it could take up to 45 working days, because they did not have the screen in the shop, but they were done in like three (from Friday to Wednesday).

2-3 months ago, I discovered this thread. Many thanks to people here confirming the program.
I put off taking my late 2013 for a time, but finally took it in and should have mine back tomorrow. I'm using a 3rd party shop close by. The same shop put in a 27inch LCD on an 09 imac for me a few years ago (also for free under a similar program)
My 13 was used when I bought it - around 11 months old. The coating problem happened about a year later. No worries being a second owner. They run the serial and you're OKed for the work.

This is the second time Apple made a Mac new again for me, so Happy Camper!

In Aug 2016 I talked to Bryan King a Senior Manager at the Stanford Shopping Center Apple Store and he told me that since my Macbook Pro is out of warranty the repair will cost me $300-$700. I just called Apple and they are sending out a box and said to send it in and they will fix it for free and send it back. I've never had good luck at the Stanford Apple store, but it's the closest one to my house. I referenced this forum when I called in to Apple. Thank you.

Wow never seen anything like that before. I think you win.

I just had mine done. Was putting it off because the time they quoted me was too long. But I dropped off in store and had it the next day. Finally did it because this program is ending on 10/16

I got my MBP Pro 2015 screen replaced in March 2016, and the replacement has started to wear.

Looks like another trip to the local Apple store.

As there are a few days left I contacted my local authorized apple repair center, AppleCare support, and an Apple service center in that order. All said "no".

Apple Sweden do not acknowledge this program.

My post from two months ago was referring to a swedish shop, I still have the receipt.

Mine goes in to the Genius Bar next Wednesday, just within the 3 years from the purchasing date to try to sort this out. Got a 'stain' right across the screen where the bottom of the keyboard sits. It leaves a blue looking stain when the Macbook is showing black but is unnoticeable when on and with colour.

Wish me luck!

Man, I'm so grateful to have discovered this thread and the whole "stain gate" issue and the quality program. Just gotten stains recently and it's so annoying. Have an appointment tomorrow and hopefully they'll fix it for me free of charge. I'm slightly worry that they won't do it or say it's not covered though...ugh, I just wished I didn't have this issue in the first place...

Do ppl know if this quality program to replace the screen free of charge is still going on? Is there a date when the program will end? My laptop is a mid-2014 model, so it's within the 3 year warranty of the program since Oct 2015.

Milton Keynes Apple Store fixed my 13" yesterday and did a great job. Dropped it off and got it back fixed in less than two hours. Talking to the guy on pick-up they weren't aware of a deadline for this quality program and I think they would be very understanding if your machine fell slightly outside of the three year window.

I have a late 2013 MBP Retina laptop and I started getting the delamination issue a few months ago.

I am based in South Africa and took my machine to the iStore in Gateway, Durban yesterday morning and they told me that they would send my unit to their repair centre in Johannesburg and have the entire top shell replaced free of charge, even though I am out of the standard warranty period. I expect to get my unit returned early next week.

I have a small stain on the bezel in the top left corner of my MacBook. It's been there for several months, but I didn't know that Apple was fixing it for free until yesterday. It's not very distracting, but it could get a lot worse eventually so I might as well fix it as soon as I can.

I have a (probably really stupid) question: Mine is a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro, but I bought it refurbished from Apple in Sept. 2014. Apple's replacing displays of MacBooks up to three years after the original purchase date. So do I have until September 2017, or do I have until three years from whenever the previous owner purchased it?

Happy to have found this thread. I just wanted to confirm that Apple are still replacing screens. The AppleCare for my 2012 MacBook Pro expired in September last year and I am technically outside the window for free repair under the Quality program. The Vancouver, BC Apple Store just booked it in today for repair. I am very happy as the edge of my screen was looking pretty bad.

Sometimes when making development can miss something that is just not protestiruesh. And sometimes guilty just sloppy and inattentive attitude I think we can clearly say second in this case.
