4 years is a pretty fair time. I've had keys start falling off of the old scissor mechanism keyboards by the four year mark in the past.
Still unacceptable to me. My eight year-old scissor mechanism keyboard has been faultless.

So is this the same keyboard they're replacing it with, anyone know? Seems weird for them to start replacing keyboards if they haven't fixed the problem...
Does anybody know if they actually fixed the keyboard or will just put in another faulty one?
For the MacBook Pro (2017):
What the heck is going on, Apple?
Last time I checked, "nothing" implies 0%. And please tell me, what exactly is "my narrative"?Since it’s not 100% or 50% failure rate, for many there is nothing wrong. But that doesn’t fit your narrative does it.
I’ve been to the Apple Store for mine and was told that it happens due to me owning a dog. Basically that it’s my fault and I can pay for a replacement or blow it out with a can of compressed air. When did Apple blame their customers? How is providing free repair blaming their customers?
This is one of the main reasons I bought Apple Care.
It’s brilliant that they finally started a free repair program for this. Many people thought they wouldn’t but it was starting to get out of hand. Although it shouldn’t have been an issue in the first place. The 2018 models don’t have this issue due to the mechanism used.
What does their computers lasting longer have to do with the issue at hand?Oh this is insane, Apple computers last longer than anything else. Remember when Windows computers were all plastic and Apple was using an Aluminum uni body?
But Make the laptop thicker?Apple really just needs to go back to the keyboard design from the 2013 MacBook Pro. It's literally the perfect keyboard.
I think this confirms that the 2018 model will be updated
Anecdote is anecdotal. Maybe it was a nice way for the technician to say “chunk of donut” lol."Maybe it's a piece of dust"

To be fair Apple used to make good machines too, my 2011 MBA is still going strong, never had a single issue with it.Meanwhile my Toshiba Satelite Pro after 6yrs still runs without a hitch or keyboard glitch, fast as hell for a grand total of $700. No need for customer care when it "just works".
Why 4 years? Good amount of time but we should expect keyboards to last longer
