So is there a limit to how many top cases you can get replaced. Once a month for 5 years or so, or ....
[doublepost=1529712004][/doublepost]So much for all those people that said there was nothing wrong and you where "just typing wrong" or crazy.
[doublepost=1529712086][/doublepost]Can we now use the name "Keygate"!

I would hope this is why we didn’t see any hardware at WWDC. They were already planning this program and they would dare not release any new products with the same issues because it would be begging to come right back to the repair shop.

I’m thinking a redesign is right around the corner. Hopefully for holiday shopping.

Took them long enough. I wonder how many people just bought an entirely new machine when this happened...

I'm glad I got my Mac in 2014 before they removed all the ports and changed the keyboard. If anyone wants a good MBP, get a 2014 model.

Are they actually replacing the keyboard with a new, non-flawed design, or are they simply cleaning it and/or replacing it with the same flawed design?

Speaking with the past experience of having my MBP 2011's defective GPU repaired under the program, it's the second one.

In fact, I don't think Apple has ever done the first one. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

Keyboards in the 2016 MacBook Pro were replaced with the (slightly better) 2017 keyboard. My guess is they will be replaced with the (hopefully fixed) 2018 keyboard.

Some would point out if a 2014 machine works for you great, many like new ports/ GPU super fast SSD, using external GPU 5K monitors etc. and it’s a package deal. Buying 5 year old machine with no warranty is not a great strategy.

I think this is typical clever strategy by Apple sit on the problem till you generate enough revenue by the extra sales on AC/AC+ then the repair programme has paid for itself. Apple know to the nearest few $'s all these cost and sales figure etc

Good news for customers who paid for KB repairs and will get a refund but what about those that specifically bought AC because of the fault, where's their refund or discount

Nice, nice, finally nice. But I am in San Diego and currently hospitalized and this d@mn keyboard is on my MacBook Pro which is my only lifeline to the outside world. Does anyone know if Apple will do an onsite (on-hospital sight) repair so I don't have to be without a machine for who knows how long? Does any authorized repairer do at home/hospital repair work? I want the repair done ASAP but don't want to be without the machine at all. Getting it transported to/from an Apple Store is impossible.

FYI: There were 17 keyboard failures (keys pressed but not registered) while I wrote the previous paragraph. There were 21 now including this paragraph. GRRRRRRRR!

I assume this means the 2018 MBPs will have a new an improved keyboard.

Hey Apple, if you are looking for a design that works check out the 2012-2015 MBPs.
You are assuming that there will be 2018 MBP's.

Which is a pretty big assumption, given that the platform:

has a flawed keyboard
doesn't cool itself properly
has a small battery
can't accept enough RAM for many

If you had shipped a computer with those attributes in 2017, would you keep it going in 2018?

Or would you go back to the drawing board?

And the others will have blind loyalty.

This isn't proactive repairs. It's a reactive program to three (as far as we know) class-action lawsuits.

Class lawsuits mean little to Apple, the only reason they exist is because of lawyers. Brand image is much more important to them. Either way, what would you have Apple do? Isn’t this the right move - Whatever their motivation?

Apple makes mistakes, like any company - and they have to deal with the consequences. This is them dealing. No one is saying we should all be tapping Apple on the back for this, but I am always surprised how much negativity people have even when they admit their mistake and are willing to do the right thing. I mean, what do you expect them to do, shut down the company?

Oh, and can we cut it out with that “blind loyalty” ****? That makes no sense, really.

As expected, a part of Macrumors will find a way to be negative about any Apple related news, even free repairs.
If you only knew how much of an inconvenience it has been, im approaching my 3th repair... i have lost my recently bought computer for 4 weeks total now... not to mention the countless hours talking to support... who told me it was my fault... not really a positive customer experience eh?? and now aproaching my 3th repair... its crazy, this has been by far my worst customer experience EVER.

Change for the sake of change is not good. The new keyboards are a step backward. As was releasing a laptop with no MagSafe (an INSANELY GREAT IDEA) and eliminating all legacy ports (WTF???). Lately it feels that Apple has tried to convince us that eating t_rds is better than eating truffles. I guess I need more mouthwash....

I can imagine and no one is defending them for that. But this repair program will help you if the issues arise again. So why be negative about this news, specifically?
