We need to grow up and stop blaming Intel. They are not responsible for Apple's macbook refresh every year. Apple 'could' work on new design or some other innovation if they wanted to really launch a new macbook pro. Only us geeks care about the yearly spec update.

Apart from that, how does Apple justify using the 2 year old 750M in the 2014 MBPr new release? Nvidia cannot be blamed in this case.

Good processors for computers are harder to make for a big market with 100s of vendors in mind. Intel has never released a new processor every year.

Indeed, what stopped Apple from upgrading the hard drives is that NO HARD DRIVES ARE IN USE.

"NO HARD DRIVES ARE IN USE"

Lie, the 13" macbook pro has one.

----------

Either way it's irrelevant -- Apple's GFX have for years been more than adequate.

For what? That depends on what you are using it for.

Bingo.

What about a dual-boot hackintosh?

Thought about it, but not seriously yet. I remember messing around with it many years ago back when I was building PCs for fun. I remember it being more trouble than it was worth. Haven't been around that community in quite some time. Has it become more stable and easier to upgrade over time? The other thing is now that Apple doesn't sell the OS, I feel bad modifying it. Before I could shell out $129 for Leopard and mess around with getting kexts to work. Now I'm just taking Apple's hard work. Do they accept donations? LOL.

I bought mine about 5 months ago. Could I get a free update if I complained at the Apple store? Kinda upset tho...

Really Apple, 750M? Ridiculous. People here act like we owe Apple something for making great computers but Apple needs to push the specs a little. Intel's slow on updates, fine, update the 750M to 850 or better and we'll be happy.

"BEST PRODUCT PIPELINE IN 25 YEARS". Still not impressed...you gotta be <beeping> me Apple.

I do agree with this. They needed to upgrade that GPU...

Fact 6: Apple repeatedly quote the percentage of Fortune 500 companies using the iPhone and iPad. I have never once seen them quote what percentage of those companies also use the Mac.

Because the number would be tiny. Not really something to boast about.

I bought the $1,499 MacBook Pro Retina less than two weeks ago, and have until Aug. 1 to return/exchange. Do you think the 200 MHz speed increase is worth the hassle? If the make 16 GB RAM standard on that model, I'd definitely go for it, but the CPU increase seems negligible.

Yes it is worth it.

Hmm, a $2500+ laptop, and a 2 year old graphics card- is there a problem with the 850M and heat issues or something like that? Maybe more fans needed? There has to be a reason they're sticking with the 750M for now. Or maybe they're phasing out the dGPUs.

Macrumors needs to post an article about Apple deciding to use it's own chips for processors on rMBPs in the future. Intel will move heaven and earth to make these chips happen.

Apple would have to redesign the logic board, write firmware, test drivers etc. They'll wait for Broadwell to do that.

With the CPU update all they have to do is solder in a different chip...

MACs are just getting boring. No real new look or style for years, damn at least add some touchscreen to it. I know you guys don't care for Windows, but at least your not stuck with the same played out looking laptop and same old OS, sometimes trying something new is fun.

Why in the world would I want fingerprint smudges all over my Retina screen? Touch screens on computers is a fad. Let's hope Apple never does this to a non-tablet. Also, what would you actually change to the machine itself to make it a better machine? Change for the sake of change is expensive, and pointless. Change is only meaningful when it makes something meh into something great.

I am running the Public Beta on a mid-2010 MBP and it runs quite fine. Even for a Beta it's quite responsive and stable.

The only reason to move to a new Mac is because it looks just so much better on a Retina display. But power wise it's the same as Mavericks.

I actually don't care for the Retina as much as the wifi a/c and bluetooth. I'm looking forward to the new Handoff ability of Yosemite and iOS 8. Otherwise, I'd still be rocking my 2011 MBP.

Apple is still continuing to screw professionals who need a REAL gfx card for 3D and video fx editing.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M should really be an option in the 15" model priced at $1999... I'm not saying it should be included at that price point.. But it should be an option to add.

I don't need the faster CPU or extra 256gb of hard drive space. I should be able to get add on the NVIDIA card for $100-200. It's just a way of bending over power users and pros that other companies just don't do.

Don't they make a Mac Pro for those that need heavy duty graphic cards? They also made the case relatively portable... :)

Excluding the Mac Pro, Macs have been moving towards the home user and average consumer for years now. In fact they are even positioned as a lifestyle/fashion object!

I still don't understand why so many people haven't worked it out that the high-end Professional market is a thing of the past for Apple.

Yes, many Macs are more than capable for Professional work, but if you want high end GPU's and configurable options then a Mac is not for you any more!

That said, Macs are more than capable machines, they just don't cover the more demanding professionals any more like you who need decent GPU options.

I honestly believe Apple's favorite version of "Professionals" are those that use a MBP to make iOS apps, which in turn make them more money. These MBP's are more than capable of doing that. So far, most of the complaints on here are either people chasing specs over function, or outliers with some extreme needs that 99.99999% of us don't have. I'm still waiting for a legit complaint besides whining about something they want just because it sounds better on paper. Don't get me wrong, I want an upgraded graphics card too, but I can understand why it's not in there.

I hate to say this but you're wrong. It is the best line up in 25 years. I don't remember any laptop released by Apple better than this from design to spec wise. It may not up to your standard but Apple is been doing that for years. People makes fun on every upgrade they have in almost every product.

In that case every company just had their best product in the last 25 years in 2014....

The design is 2012.

Really great move! On a laptop like the 15" rMBP 8GB of RAM really isn't enough.
