Good job this icloud to google exports in the right direction then!!Seeing as free storage on iCloud is 5GB and on Google Drive it's 15GB it is great for exporting in one direction, not so good for going in the other.

it's not very easily possible to export/backup original photo files from icloud photo. yes its dumb as heck.
Getting ahead of anti-trust concerns. No way does Apple really want you to move your stuff to Google.Strange. Did some money get exchanged somewhere? Why would Apple allow you to transfer to a competitor like this? Surely I'd just make people download their data and transfer it manually to dissuade them from leaving me.
Sorry, I missed the /s off my original message. Not sure who would give their property to an ad company to be honest.

How about to maybe, just maybe MY OWN HARD DISK?, right here, on my desk, in my hand. My data, is it possible Apple, without jumping through hoops ?How about to Office 365 or Amazon Photos?
How dare you think you own your own data! HOW DARE YOU. /s.How about to maybe, just maybe MY OWN HARD DISK?, right here, on my desk, in my hand. My data, is it possible Apple, without jumping through hoops ?
From the same Privacy page under “Obtain a copy of your data” you can request your data and download it to your own Computer and transfer it yourself (if desired)Great, now they want my google user and password.
Why not just give me the option to download everything?

Oh, I've done that. You should too! From the same Privacy page under “Obtain a copy of your data” you can request your data and download it to your own Computer and transfer it yourself (if desired)

As I replied to a previous reply, apparently the app was expecting me to search in my language (Swedish), something I hadn't even considered trying. 😀Um...Apples search works the same way? At least on my MBP...or are iCloud search different?
Oh, I've done that. You should too!
That's when I realized Apple keeps FOREVER a log of every podcast I listen to, when and how much I listen to it, what apps I buy, what TV shows, movies, etc. I watch on what device and when, start and finish times.
Dead serious. Apple creating an option to switch to one of their largest competitors with very little friction means they have to be committed and confident about providing a great product/service because switching away is easier than ever.sarcasm? Nothing inspires confidence like being able to move your data out......straight into another cloud provider? That' pretty confidence unspiring for me.
UM what if my library is bigger than my mac storage?, i.e. in the case of mac laptops.Umm, this is built into the Photos app. When you enable iCloud Photos on your Mac, just check "Download Originals to this Mac" and it will download your entire photo library, with all the originals, to your photo library.
You can then back up this photo library with Time Machine or any other local backup method.
In fact this is one thing that I really LIKE about Apple Photos; Google doesn't provide any way to keep a local, continuously updated copy of your library. Takeout doesn't count because it's a big massive download of the entire thing every time you use it.
Nope. i cant be bothered to explain it all again. But you havent thought about it hard enough.I think it’s fair to assume that plenty Macs already have that as a local copy, some iOS devices probably as well. But as mentioned above, the website lets you download it all too.
No, that's not how it works. The Google Photos app would upload whatever is on your phone, so you would need to have optimization turned off so that it would upload the full sized image.

That’s fine, just link me to where you explained it last, I’ll happily read that.
great on a laptop though ? not really.Attach the storage medium of your choice and save on that. External hard drives are there for a reason. Boom. Solved.
