Apple's become a bit quiet lately.

Good. Since they don't comment on future products and they are in the silent update mode between product announcements, they should be quiet. Less leaks to give the competition a heads up. Maybe we can be surprised about launches again.

You'll probably find most of these people were once Apple devotees; but like myself, have become so disillusioned with Apple they've not only started to go elsewhere, but also backlash against the company just as they once did against Microsoft. What goes around comes around, but apple have only themselves to blame.

Sincerely, windows 8 user, ex iPhone 4!

Well leave us alone and go to the empty Windows 8 enthusiast site. I'm sure they would really enjoy your company. When I left the Microsoft and Palm worlds I never hung around their blogs selling my discontent I just left. We are actually happy about the products Apple makes now!!!!! Windows 8 is garbage just like Windows 7 which I used at work for 2 years. If you love that great. We don't need your negative garbage here on the "Apple User" site.

How dare you !

You're thinking is dangerous.

It's good to see Apple follow in the footsteps of other e-commerce companies that began offering free shipping for online orders. Of those that do, they usually have a minimum order to qualify for free next day shipping.

It's a new economy we're operating in and it's good to see Apple finally use some of the promotional tools others are using. For far too long Apple was a fixed price sales model that worked then, but is out of touch now.

Anything they can do to increase sales is well worth it.

Wtf happened to the Macrumors community? Every news article thread are just filled with malicious and obnoxious "hate on everything Apple does" type of comments.

Apple offers free next day shipping. A nice little bonus for anyone considering buying an iPhone on Apples website. It's amazing how something like that, can turn into a negative discussion.

Yup. And if you write anything against them, the forum moderators ban you.

LOL! Poor chadley_chad, do you realize that I can click on your name and see every post you have ever posted on Macrumors? Thing is, you have NEVER been an Apple devotee and your are LYING through your teeth! Not to mention you posted once in 2004 then nothing until 2009. More than likely this is a hacked account.

Sincerely, me

Yet somehow the forum moderators let the paid trolls such as yourself continue to flourish here.

So....what the heck are you still doing here? Legitimate question. If you've "moved on" then why still on Macrumors?

My guess is you still pay just as much attention to Apple news, you've just joined a different crowd that follows Apples every move to criticize it. For whatever reason it may be, no matter how irrational it is. You can find flaws in the most expensive diamonds if you look hard enough for it. People who have convinced themselves of something will do just that.

What has Apple done that they "only have themselves to blame?" Anyone who's been following Apple closely for the past 15 years, know that not much has changed about their approach or actions. Apple is still Apple. Although that illusion and allure of Apple once being the underdog has quickly faded away.

It's funny, isn't this what old Mac users always wanted? They evangelized Apple products very vocally, and now that the world has caught on to what they were saying 10 years ago, their attitudes have changed. Some people just love rooting for the underdog.

Turn what around? Record profits? Good try though.

Even though sales may be good they may not be meeting the prediction or forecast that they informed the street, AKA wall street, its about meeting sales expectation not just that they are making money that drives the stock price.

Them going to the offensive after the S4 add and this promotion oozes they need some quick sales to finish the quarter on a better note. I guess we'll find out soon.

I assume they produce enough to meet consumer needs from the start.

Basic supply and demand, Apple could learn from it.

Basic common sense, you should try to learn from it. Apple sold 48 million iPhone in one quarter. They sold 5 million iPhone 5s in launch weekend using the most precise and state of the art assembly process the technology industry has ever seen. I'd say Apples doing just dandy as far as operations is concerned.

I can't think of another company on the planet that mass produces products at the level of tolerances and precision that Apple does. The precision matching done on the iPhone 5 glass inlays is the sort of thing only done on very low volume, high priced Swiss Timepieces. Never a mass produced phone. Samsung said they use plastic due to supply scale challenges....and Apple is supposed to learn from them?

Also another flaw in your brilliant logic. A basic rule of supply and demand....try to minimize excess supply. Samsung could ship 2x as much supply as demand, they would not be at operational efficiency. Excess supply leads to lower prices. You want to be at the intersection of supply and demand. That's something Tim Cook lives by.

Real Apple Users come to these forums to learn how to better use our Apple products and interface with people in our community. The community aspect is what made these forums useful and popular. They would also not exist if Apple didn't make products. People like you are making them into something they never were. I have been reading these forums since 2001. The members helped me purchase my first mac, by showing me how I could use it. I am thankful the current tone was not here. I would have still be suffering the pain that is Windows at my home. I get the impression that the haters here are tweakers who jump to Apple because there were no other useable touch phones and only linger to try to bring as many Apple fans with them now that they have moved on. Apple will never make tweakers happy because there are too many compromises including security and ease of use to do so. Tweakers are ok with having to take classes just to be able to use a software or do simple task on the computer. They don't mind having to reformat and reinstall OS and software to keep it running. Apple customers are not that group. Now it seems something that 2 years ago would have got a thanks for the update on these forums, gets 5 pages of silly negative comments from Apple haters that claim they have moved on to something better, but can't seem to stay off the Apple forums. It's like breaking up with someone for someone better, but still commenting on your ex's Facebook posts or calling her everyday. (no kids involved)

The Schiller interview, the new iPhone ad campaign and now free next day shipping. I smell fear.

Free shipping on the world's most outdated and ugly smartphone. Pass.

Not entirely fair on all fronts. Outdated OS with an annoying closed eco system yes and it could use a slightly larger screen with less bezel but I certainly don't consider it ugly and still has the best build quality and camera of any smart phone IMHO.

As much as I feel the iphone needs to catch up to the competition OS wise its still a very good device. I switched to an S3 about 4 months ago and had to switch back to my iphone 4 since the sim card holder stop reading. I can say both have there pros and cons.

I can just do more things on an android device which I like.

That actually means they ship far more than they sell. Thats why estimates say they shipped over 20 million Phones per quarter in the US since 2010. When the were forced to provide actual sales from 2010 to June of 2012 they only reported 25 million total. It should have been 200 million where are the other 175 million?

I don't think Apple makes moves based on Samsung, but they do know the importance of controlling the conversation when they are being targeted. If they cut the price $100 and had free next day when no shipping was free before I would say maybe, but to quietly change the deal offered on shipping? Not a big deal

ROFL. Do you know how many Android devices, Samsung included sit in the supply chain waiting to be bought? Go to the back room of any cellular carrier or Best Buy in the US and you will find boxes of Androids waiting for a home.

Say what you will about Apple products. Nobody, I mean nobody in the world right now does a better job of balancing the supply demand equation.

Did he say anything he didn't say before? No!
Did he call them to comment? No!
They Started a similar campaign last year almost to the day. Were they running in fear then? No? Do you really think they decided to create the current ads which continue the theme they did in the last ads in a couple of days? Not!
Creative does not move that fast.
Do you really think that a company as good at marketing as Apple has not planned long in advance what they are going to do. Keep in mind Television is booked well in advance this time of year because of Basketball and Golf.

wow - DEAL OF THE CENTURY!!!

SIGN ME UP!

jeez - seriously apple?! this is how youre going to turn it around?

Turn WHAT around? Apple's in 1st place in smartphone sales with 39% of the US market. While not in 1st worldwide, Apple increased their share by 50% from CY11 to CY12. Not much to "turn around" unless you mean start selling fewer.

Sincerely, windows 8 user, ex iPhone 4!

Not like I really care (at all), but what the heck did Apple ever do to you to make you such a tightly wound and openly hostile consumer?

Sorry for inventing the smartphone. Our bad.

Why would i ever go in to the back room of a phone shop?!

I would guess more like Apple bandwagoneers, just waiting to turn on them at any sign of "bad" news. Devotees stick around during the lean/hard times (like the 90s for Apple).

Or how about people that just believe in using the best device that is available at the time of purchase?

I don't know why anyone is devoted to any brand unless they own or work for the company.

Not saying the iphone is a bad device its still top notch but no longer the best smart phone on the market since the iphone 4.

Even if they opened it up and let developers create apps that can customize the device, let me set what I want as my default app, keyboard etc, release imessages with regular sms and mms capabilities so I can use my computer to send messages to non iphone users, create that same imessages app for a pc, let me read and write what I want to the 64gb flash drive. They let me do this with my mac why can't the let me be a big boy and do what I want with my smart phone?
