Why wouldn't they replace them with first generation nanos? You bought a first generation nano so it seems logical that you would get the same model as a replacement.
Doubt they have a large inventory of 5 yr old nanos lying around.

The title says it will take them 6 weeks to replace them. To me that screams, repair. They will maybe replace the cover polish the back and replace the battery. Plus a 90 warranty is Apples standard for a refurb.
