2022 Subaru Legacy XT. It's a nice car, but I miss the gas mileage of my Prius Prime. That's fair enough, I just got a car too.. and so wont have this new CarPlay either.. it's a shame, as it really does look amazing. Which car did you buy?![]()

I'm sorry...I will NEVER buy a car without dedicated knobs for volume and AC/Heat controls
Works fine for Tesla without impacting their business. Also, why would any car manufacturer want to decrease their brand new car value, by offering a huge feature to be added to their used cars. Not how business works...
I see your point, Tesla may be an exception, but they are more or less are a monopoly unless you count hybrid carsWorks fine for Tesla without impacting their business.
I just hope we can choose to operate Carplay without having to cover the entire dash with cartoon-like smartphone graphics. If not, that'll be one less "feature" that I'll use with my iPhone. I can't imagine anyone who has paid for an expensive luxury car actually wanting to see some Apple geek's idea of what a dashboard should look like.It will replace the car existing dashboard?. Can I just have "basic" carplay with waze, spotify and phone and leave the rest of the car info to the actual car vendor?. I don´t feel too confiden on having to rely on my phone to see the speed or adjust the climate...
How about making a phone that actually works fine?, for example, that lets the user edit a misstyped or copied phone number in the phone app?, or a better keyboard? (all keyboards in the appstore are limited by what Apple decides about sizes and more).
?Unfortunately, I'll have to wait for 2030 model year for VW to adopt.
Right? Even the non-luxury vw digital cockpit pro looks better than that.I just hope we can choose to operate Carplay without having to cover the entire dash with cartoon-like smartphone graphics. If you currently own a car, that car is almost certainly not going to get this new version of CarPlay. Outside of Tesla, there’s almost no manufacture that retroactively adds features to older cars.Is that a fact?
You can bet your a$$ that the listed car makers won’t do a software upgrade and will make you buy a new car. One thing I really like about Tesla. No way Audi will do it. They’ve hobbled cars for years and have made be upgrade cars to get something new that probably could have been a software update. Is that a fact?
If you look at the Apple video for this product, you will see a car that has a rectangle display in the center of the dash. That’s the Ford display design. Also in the video is a car that has a long wide display. That’s the new BMW design. As seen in the iX.But Ford is named as one they’re working with, but, I assume (could be wrong) that there will be HW updates required, and I also don’t see that eg Ford will invest updating the cars they’ve sold in the last couple years with these new features, their engineers are working on the next gen MachE already and that’s where I’d expect seeing it… car makers want to be SW engineering houses but they’re far away from that
No manufacturer is required to remove all the touch buttons. Look at the 2023 GMC Yukon to see what you can do.All touch interface for cars = horrible
You say that like it is a good thing. I just purchased a VW ID.4 and it has almost no physical buttons and knobs. Fortunately, there are still dedicated touch buttons, they can be difficult to locate, especially in the dark. It is one of the very few things that I don't particularly like about the car. (But, I love almost everything else about this car.)Great, I can finally be rid of every physical button in my vehicle.
Weird. CarPlay from my XR has never crashed in the Mazda I bought this year.Seeing as my dash never crashes, and CarPlay frequently does, I think I'll stick to using my built-in dash for critical purposes and CarPlay for media and navigation only...
