Wow that looks slick, I have a 2022 Tiguan with a digital cluster, but I can't see mine getting that update.

I wonder what legalities Apple open themselves up for if the speedometer isn't accurate and someone gets busted speeding or something?

I have no idea, but personally I think it will be used to promote the sale of new vehicles, so no. Just my opinion. Also, I've been teetering between the hybrid and electric Range Rover. I can get a hybrid now, but the electric will be sometime in mid to late 2023 (probably) so I might just wait for the electric version.
Maybe I don't pay too much attention to this, but I haven't seen too many brands using CarPlay as a selling point, especially since it's no longer a paid option on my car))) But I may just have missed it. Which model are you looking at?

Bye bye physical buttons :( all those stupid screens are a good idea on paper and when standing, but poor when driving. How this even gets approved by the traffic safety department is beyond me.
Well, I don't think they'll be removing physical buttons alongside this — not everyone uses CarPlay :)

So how exactly is this new CarPlay going to be received? Is it over the air updates like Tesla's updates are, or is it only going to be for specific car models?

I will only buy another new car when the models I like have it! I made that mistake in 2016. The End!

The Car manufacturer is responsible for making their car CarPlay compatible and connectable to the phone. Those upgrades depends on how the manufacturer handles upgrades (mine upgrades via USB flash drives).

So in other words specific car models only since most hardly update anything.

Guess I'm sticking with my plan to get a Model 3.

I won’t risk using this if there’s no immediate fallback. My iPhone 14 pro
Carplay crashes at least twice on long journeys. Usually if it’s been wireless charged + playing Apple Music + using google maps.

Displaying an instrument cluster will be too much. These phones are really bad at managing power + ram + avoiding overheating.

Love the wireless carplay. Glad to see it's getting an upgrade.
Wireless CarPlay is great, except it drains the phone battery pretty rapidly, from my experiences using it so far.

Maybe they can improve that too? But right now, you really need the combo of wireless CarPlay and an effective cordless charging mat to place the phone on in the vehicle.

Gorgeous. Love the interior color too. I considered the previous RR model to be the most beautiful thing in the auto industry, this one surprised me with it's tiny tail lights, but they didn't consult me, so... It's still amazing though.

One of my neighbors got one about a month or two ago; it's pretty nice. I'd been considering a new X, but I won't get another Tesla until the new batteries (est. 500+ mile range) are out. A little birdie @ Tesla told me that's likely happening in 2023, but Tesla is hard to predict.

I found with my iPhone 13 Pro, it had some problems keeping up too, depending on what I was doing in CarPlay. Seems like it works well enough if all you're doing is using it for GPS with Google or Apple Maps or even Waze. But that seems to use enough of the wireless bandwidth so when you stream music on top of it? You get "glitches" where the music intermittently stops or makes a "popping" noise, maybe every 3-5 minutes while listening to it? (I think it might also depend on the bitrate the music was encoded at. I was only playing music saved locally on my iPhone.)
