Apple is planning to launch an Apple TV Channels bundle that features CBS All Access and Showtime at a discounted price, reports Bloomberg.

apple_tv_channels_cbs.jpg

The bundle, which aims to spur usage of Apple TV+ and the Apple TV Channels feature, will be priced at $9.99 per month. It is set to roll out as early as Monday, and will be available to those who have an Apple TV+ subscription.

Apple already offers access to both CBS All Access and Showtime through Apple TV channels. On a standalone basis, CBS All Access is priced at $9.99 per month and Showtime is priced at $10.99 per month, so this will be a significant savings for those who choose to subscribe through the Apple TV app.

Introduced last year, Channels is an Apple TV app feature that lets Apple device users sign up for and watch various subscription television services right within the Apple TV app.

Users still need to pay for the streaming services, but without the hassle of downloading an app and signing up separately. Some of the Channels available in addition to CBS All Access and Showtime include Starz, Nickelodeon, Mubi, The History Channel Vault, Epix, Comedy Central Now, and more.

Channels is offered alongside Apple TV+, Apple's $4.99 per month streaming service that houses Apple original content.

What does that section exactly mean that I bolded and underlined?

I will be signing up to this day one, The picture quality of CBS on apple channels is so much better than using the CBS app. Apple must use much higher streaming bit rates, such a shame we cant have HBO in such great quality now. I really like the Apple TV app and channels, just wish there was more channels especially an add free Discovery channel

We have the CBS commercial free already through Apple. Is this the same CBS you are mentioning?
If not is the commercial free available, at what cost?
I was wondering the same thing. I have CBS All Access, now. It's commercial free.
Will this also be commercial free? Because it sounds too good to be true. I mean...if you already subscribe to either of these...why wouldn't you get this?! It's like getting something for free. That never happens. ;)

I still don't understand CBS all access being a paid only. I'm not going to pay for something I could get for free with a digital antenna. At least offer a free, ad-supported option.

Well, you do have to pay $4.99 for TV+ to get the offer, so it's not strictly speaking free.

It is commercial free. Apple doesn't provide commercials in any of their third party channels. I think it's a policy.

they really do need an all in one subscription. i'm cancelling my TV+ when free trial is over, already cancelled arcade and news. music and icloud storage are the only ones i'm keeping so far.

$34.99 package to include 2TB of iCloud, Music, TV+, Arcade, News for the family would be fine.

Considering you're posting this in an article about Apple TV Channels, I'm not sure you're prepared to find out how much an all-in-one subscription would cost.

CBS All Access gives you a lot of originals that don't show up on the airwaves. Also, OTA/antenna doesn't provide on demand CBS, or shows from the last 30 years. OTA is only getting you live TV.

If you think CBSAA is something you can get with your antenna, then you're welcome to live with that delusion. The network TV channel is an afterthought for CBSAA.

Next up, I hope, a Sports Bundle that offers On-Demand access to ALL of last season's playoff, tournament & bowl games for Pro & College Football, Pro & College Basketball, & Pro & College Baseball !

Something to get us Sports Fans thru the next 12 months !

Really surprised NO major company has stepped up to the plate has made that happen so far !

Would gladly pay $9.99/month till Live Sports comes-back in Normal Fashion.
What sports?! Ths upcoming season is looking like it's already in the toilet. I am so done with replay sports and watching European football matches sans crowds.

The thread where we post ridiculous fantasies was earlier today.

I didn't include CBS or Showtime in my suggested bundle.

Simply add up all the Apple subscriptions and provide a discount. It's not that hard to calculate.

Did you miss the article about Apple One today? They're literally doing that.

" Gurman explains that there will be different Apple One subscription tiers. A basic package will include just Apple Music and Apple TV+, while a more expensive variation will add Apple Arcade. The next tier up will add Apple News+, followed by a more expensive bundle featuring iCloud storage."

I didn't miss it. I follow Mark on Twitter and read that already on Bloomberg. The article suggested a $40/mo price. I'm suggesting $35/mo.

All these subscriptions are getting more expensive then when just got everything through cable packages. And buying albums/singles from time to time.

This is up to the apps to implement. I hate Netflix for not doing it. I wish Apple would enforce it.

That's not what I mean. What I was trying to say was Apple needs to solve it: give the apps no reason not to. Maybe it means providing information about their users consumption - but not the consumption of any other content, or maybe it means making easier for these services to be canceled.

"ALERT: The show you are about to watch is available via a different platform that is part of Up Next. Would you like to stream it there to make it easier to keep track of what episode you are on?"

"ALERT: You used 22 min of Netflix this month, down from 44 last month. Click here to manage your subscription."

Apple could lobby to make services like Locast cheaper to offer on Apple TV, or they could lobby to get the right to provide cable subscription content not offered via an app for free. Confirm you have Comcast and if the show isn't provided by an app than the content becomes available for the user via AppleTV+Free. Yes, this would be illegal now, but Apple has the resources to push it through congress.

After initially paying $35/month for DirectTVNow only to eventually be paying $87/month after price increases, I dumped them.

You know, cutting the cord a few years ago was such a great option. Now every Channel is going their own separate way with subscriptions that it is ending up costing more to watch the same stuff I did a few years ago.

Hopefully Apple keeps spearheading some inclusive package options like this CBS/Showtime offering to cater to individual tastes.

If this is all tied to the Apple TV app, then I’ll have nothing to do with it. Finally signed up for my free ATV+, and I like the shows, but the app really, really sucks. It doesn’t tag shows as watched after I finish watching them, I can’t put them into a list except Watch Next, which worthlessly contains movies I already finished watch. And then adds baseball on front of that.

The software is just atrocious. Amazon Prime Video is better, and that sucks.

You don't like it? Really? I think AppleTV+ Up Next is one of the best UIs out there. Live content is customization per user and is highlighted at the front because it will go away when over. Really the only issues I run into is when App Developers are lazy and just throw something together.

Big win. I plan on taking this offer. I have a backlog of shows on both Showtime and CBS to watch. Gotta catch up on Picard, Below Decks, Twilight Zone, Survivor, and Homeland.
(OFF TOPIC). BTW, the ending to Homeland is absolutely awesome and very well done. Don't miss it!
