I think it’s great that they are adding more content like this because it shows a lot of its strengths, but what they really need is to make a version $2000 cheaper and have a killer app.

The iPhone 1 was far more successful and almost universally lauded. The masses that couldn't afford it, still saw a real potential in it. It only took Apple an year to release an updated version that was infinitely more popular.

The iPhone solved a basic need for the masses to have a great handheld device with mobile internet access. The need was already there, Apple just found the best way to make it work.

Comparatively, Vision Pro doesn't solve any particular need. Apple can try all it wants, but no one cares about "spatial computing" besides fat nerds and technophiles glued to their desks. The masses absolutely don't care for it, and it's not even because of it's ridiculous pricing.
Being spatial computing hardware, the Vision Pro solves and makes far more convenient various computing use cases more distinctly than Apple’s other products.

By design it overlaps many of an iPad Pro’s use cases to use that less with one in your possession and it is a very convenient portable prosumer screen for users of various Macs—especially on the go with a Macbook Pro.

Even stationary Mac users can contextually use it invaluably for privacy and more flexible multi tasking—especially with 2.0’s 5K2K mode.

Various distinct product categories are more appealing to the masses than others.

Apple nonetheless does not attribute iPhone levels of success to all of them—especially their prosumer products that enables the lesser end hardware to eventually have advantages and feature they otherwise do not have.

Without the $5000 Pro Display XDR, there was no serious cost effective path for Apple’s 1000 sustained-nits, 1600 peak nits mini-led screens be used on all their other prosumer hardware.

If it weren't for visits to this webpage, I'd never hear about AVP. None of the tech regulars mention it much, never see an ad for. No big name celebrities are walking around with one on.
It’s a very personal device in which Apple makes it abundantly clear it’s not meant to be walked around with like that.

Also… the target audience is not buying this merely because others have it or that certain celebrities use it.

That’s pretty nonsensical to buy a prosumer product for; that’s like asking and giving weight to who Ja Rule or Kim Kardashian think should be president: Who cares?

There is no other videos like it on the market..once I watched the tight rope one I was actually feeling a bit queasy...cant wait for more. Only the people that have experienced these will now how cool they are, you cannot comprehend it without seeing it in the AVP, unless of course you doing it in real life...

how many Bugatti commercials do you see, or lambo's etc..the target audience will always get what they want regardless of numpties online being overly critical about every little thing lol

So I take it you haven’t tried their immersive demo amd are just making snide remarks?

The immersive demo is one of the most impressive things to me. I was blown away the first time I saw it. I’m really looking forward to these new vids.

For a lot of us apple fans, it’s not about the price necessarily but the degree of uncomfortabiity and what I’d rather do more comfortably and quicker on an iPad or my laptop/desktops. I had tried the Vision Pro, fully expecting to keep what appeared to be the best tech ever, but dreaded putting it on more than 15-20 mins for anything. I really enjoyed those 15-20 mins and also tried multiple light seals at the store, but ultimately it was always something on my head weighing it down the entire time I used it. Returned it in the end and until the comfort improves, I would rather use devices that don’t need to but put on my face. At least in the meantime, I have a pair of XR glasses which at least I can watch shows/movies without too much pressure resting on my face and much more ease of use. Looking forward to see where this tech goes. I’m glad for sure for people who have this device that apple is slowly trickling out some more content.
I bought a 3rd party strap add on from Annapro. My first stint tn the headset after I got it home was 10hrs.

I own the Quest 3, and have owned many other headsets, along with some bo bo var straps, but this has been the most comfortable VR/AR experience I’ve ever had.

Just tonight I watched the season finale of The Boys. I remove the light seal, I’m sitting in darkness anyway. The headset is essentially hovering in front of me; no weight or discomfort.

Sorry to hear you haven’t had a similar experience.

People for who it is actually “in their price range” don’t need to make posts about it being in their price range.
Generally things I can’t afford, I don’t spend my time posting about terrible the products is. Because I don’t care lol.

I can’t imagine talking about how crappy $120k Tesla is and I’ve never owned a Tesla in my life.

Avp is literally the new iPhone. People hated the iPhone not because they used it but because apple literally made it exclusive and at the time it was more than most people could afford. Since 2008-2013 or so, iPhones were considered luxury items.

The avp is wait for it….a luxury item and outside of the ppl who have actually used one and thus have valid criticism, the main issue for ppl is its price.

Then they compare it to the meta 3 based on price and features (points to android and iPhone)

It’s literally history repeating itself again.

I need to replace my 2015 27inch imac and I am waiting for mac studio to get updated ... or maybe imac pro?
Waiting for the Studio to be updated is an interesting thing. They are already out with an M4-based iPad and their laptops all have M3 options. The M3 laptops are really nice. You would have expected the announcement of M3-based desktop Macs at WWDC. It makes one wonder if they will skip the M3 desktop models and go right to M4. And if they do that the only investor-acceptable reason is that refresh demand on Macs isn't high enough to support an aggressive release schedule for desktops. We don't know what numbers Apple is looking at, but we can infer something about them based on their actions.

That's true. And that is really the main reason they are doing it. They aren't at the point where it makes sense to develop a "House of Cards" (the first investment made in significant 4k content for TV).

but what they really need is to make a version $2000 cheaper
It will come in time. We are only five months out from the introduction of the device. Apple is trying to create a new market cartegory, one different from the gamer market that most inexpensive headsets are optimized for.

No other Apple product exists in just a Pro version. Pro products always carry a premium because they are loaded with technology for the professional and prosumer. We should see a cheaper Apple Vision (without the pro) in a year or two.

and have a killer app.
The market will determine the killer app. It will not have been predicted by the experts. A killer app for phones right now is TikTok. No one at Apple in the early 2000s thought that one of the killer apps for a smart phone would be an endless scroll of short videos of people lip synching, mugging, dancing, repackaging random content, and trying to sell you something you neither want nor need.

I'd like to see a link to that not some snippet of unattributed rumor. On release, analysts were reporting that preorders were 180k to 200k units, over twice what Apple had stocked for release day. I've seen no reliable source, actually no source whatsoever, quoting numbers like this horse hockey.

I spent last year > $ 8 k for a three week vacation in Canada's wilderness and it was not worth ⅓ of it - with all the wildfires and tons of tourists one of my worst vacations ever - I liked the east cost a few years earlier much more.

Hopefully no money ever is laying around - it's better invested in Apple shares these days 🤣
I do understand that things are different now. Tourists are everywhere. 27 years ago I was in Spain. Peaceful and not crowded at all. Last week my friend went there with his wife. They were not happy at all with the trip as it was crowded everywhere.
It's sad that your trip didn't go well but you were there in person, not just sitting on a couch and watching on a 100 foot screen

Then return home without 5000€, with mosquito bites and some photos and souvenirs. Then wait until you can save again for another trip.

With the AVP you can continue 'traveling' places every day.
Then you can save money to go on your next safari with a 3D, 180º or 360º camera to bring amazing new memories home that you can relive everyday on your AVP.
I would rather spent 5000€ for a couple of weeks trip and be there in person than sitting on a sofa with AVP.

All the haters in here ... it was only ever supposed to be sold to a couple of people ;)

According to reports it’s about 400,000, which is every unit Apple was projected to be able to make. So a few more than 20.
And this is the point right. Let’s go back to 2007. 6mill original iPhones sold. So 8x as many for a new class of product which was (relatively speaking) a fraction of the cost of AVP.

Under no metric would I call the AVP a failed product. Haters will hate though right, because no one else will listen.

I do understand that things are different now.

Things will be always different at times - that the only constant in life

Same in Lisboa a couple of years ago coiner to 15 years again when I was 1st time there - but the is a solution for that - don't go there - I just skip the crowded places - I was hoping west Canada would be such a place - I am not going there again. Just not with the money - let alone the horrible food.

It's sad that your trip didn't go well but you were there in person, not just sitting on a couch and watching on a 100 foot screen

Well - I don't get the idea that it's either or - I would always go for the real thing but there is simply not enough time in life to visit every place. AVP will allow for many people to visit places they will never go.

The saved money can go into trips you really want to do yourself in person. I've seen a good deal of this planet by my job since I need to travel a lot on business. The rest is private investment and traveling with my spouse to places we both enjoy. But there is still time to explore virtual spaces and I'll probably never travel to the moon or mars - in case that can be done virtually it is a nice broadening of one's mind.

« Apple Launching New Apple Immersive Videos »

Question from non English speaker , I thought the correct way to say it would be « Apple launches » or « Apple is Launching » ?
You are correct. I think the reason they left out “is” was to have a shorter headline. I’m not sure if there is a technical term for doing this, but it is analogous to the way that contractions work (e.g., ”they’re“ for “they are”), but for words, in that the “is” is sort of “read into it” by our brains.

And this is the point right. Let’s go back to 2007. 6mill original iPhones sold. So 8x as many for a new class of product which was (relatively speaking) a fraction of the cost of AVP.

According to Statista, smartphone sales were 122.32 million in 2007. So those new iPhones were 4.9% of total smartphone sales (out of a market that sold 1.15 billion cell phones altogether according to Computerworld).

According to Statista, total 2023 sales of AR&VR headsets together was 7.45 million. The 400,000 projected sales for AVP represents 5.4% of the total.

It looks like AVP is about the same level of success in the AR/VR market as iPhone was in the smartphone market for its first year. But, the haters and the Quest-fanboy gamers are gonna hate. What the Quest users should realize is that Apple’s entry only helps Quest by creating competition that will wind up growing the total market and push Quest to be better than it is today, especially in areas where Quest is differentially better (gaming) than AVP. The relevant questions are how does the market grow and will Apple be able to grow its share?

They need more content. Faster.

This dribble of bland, prerecorded content reminds me of the old ViewMaster reels from the '70's. Always great to get a new reel but, seriously, who wants to look at seven, full color 3D views of "Paris at Night" over and over?

Apple needs fresh content daily. How about a 24x7 news stream? Live reporting from all over the world. Experience the heart of the action. A reason to put your AVP on daily. Learn something too.

I'd buy that.
