Hopefully he spends the rest of his working life flipping burgers.
Flipping burgers is harsh, but his days of working in the corporations is likely done. If this shows up on background checks, it will be hard. Best bet is to move to a state with strict protection laws against rejecting applicants for their past acts.

One does wonder (or at least I do) why people leak these kinds of things when it is nothing about advancement of the general public. It's usually they have something personally to gain from it (e.g., power, fame, money), not because there is any actual benefit to the general public. I'm glad that Aude is now coming out to say it was not worth it.

I suppose it's easier for Apple to go after the leakers than the people (e.g. Mark Gurman, Ming-Chi Kuo, etc) who write about the leaked info.

The reporters are protected by the first amendment except in very narrow circumstances, IIRC. The leaker, OTOH, is likely covered by an NDA or other reemployment agreement that prevents them from disclosing information.

Without integrity, you have nothing. So good luck on this guy getting another job, anywhere. Critical mistake.

While I tend to agree with, a lot will depend on how good of an engineer he is; personally, if he was good and owned up to his mistake in an interview, I might take a chance on him. People do dumb things but that doesn't mean they can't learn and grow.

I've worked under many NDA's. Leaking is moronic and ruins your career. why do it? That said, some sort of settlement is in order. they're not going to put anybody in jail over a leak

They're also not going to put anybody in jail over a leak because in this case and most cases it isn't a criminal act.

The part that gets me is, what could this guy have even gained from leaking? Was anybody paying him even? I don't approve, but I could at least comprehend the movitation behind corporate espionage or leaking stuff if there was $$$ involved. But here it just seems like he got some rush out of being "in the know" and blew up his career over it. Seems more sad than anything else IMO.

Andrew Aude: “Forgive me for the harm I have caused this world. None may atone for my actions but me, and only in me shall their stain live on. I am thankful to have been caught, my fall cut short by those with wizened hands. All I can be is sorry, and that is all I am.”

Tim Cook: “I don’t think you meant it… Again.”
That's pure gold! 🤣
