you realize it's TEN right? X means 10. It's the iPhone 10s. Just like the 6s, 5s and 4s before it.

Haha you got me - tough day at the office!

But...

Absolutely everyone will pronounce it as ‘XS’ though.

When you’ve got a product name that you have to add on ‘...it’s pronounced TEN S’, you might have a problem!

And as a few people have mentioned, here in Europe, a common clothing size is ‘xs’ (Extra small).

So we’re going to have fun with the biggest iPhone ever called ‘XS’.

Ready for them to just call the flagship.... iPhone.
Ken Segall wrote about how Apple keeps backing itself into this corner every year by not simplifying the iPhone naming scheme. The iPads were no better for a while as the name changed completely every year. I'm sorry but when I see 'XS' I think 'extra small'. Ugh.

Alas I'm on board with the bigger phone and watch. The name won't put me off clunky though it is. Time to prepare for the insanity of the pre-order and the long wait for delivery...

A certain quote comes to mind that still makes me chuckle to this day, especially in light of this news about the new Xs models leaking:

"Now stop me if you've already seen this..."

- Steve Jobs unveiling the iPhone 4 during the WWDC 2010 keynote, the same year its prototype was captured and leaked by Gizmodo...

Crazy leak.

Terrible name - iPhone XS. Supposed to be pronounced “ten ess” but will inevitably be pronounced “ecs ess” and eventually just sound like ‘excess’.

Maybe that’s what they want with that solid gold look?
Either "Excess" or "Xtra Small".

Totally agree.

Who is coming up with these product names?

Maybe they should now retire to spend time with their millions.

I still think that last year they could have had the 7S/+ (instead of the 8/+), since it was more of an "S" anyway. Then they could have done a special addition (the 'X') as the 'iPhone Anniversary Edition'. Then this year, the new XS/+ would have just been the actual 8/+

“Accidentally”!

Before the 6 Apple’s erred in failing to have a bigger screen phone.

Now it looks like they’re failing to offer a reasonably small phone. I hope they pull out something smaller.

I mean what's wrong with XS+ for the larger screen since it's similar to the #S+ versions? I don't know what they plan on doing for 11. XI or are they going to do an iPad reset and go with "new" iPhone.

Gold specially for Russia and China where golden teeth is a golden standard. Cheap colors. Cheap design like in latest Nokias made by chinese HMD for China and India market.

Xs? iPhone 9 Xs Red Mi Note Pro ;) Too many product names. Standarization lost. Multiple devices. This is not an Apple philosophy I know.

"Plus" denoted a better camera and higher PPI.

That's no longer true with the 6.5" Xs. I think Apple did the right thing dropping the Plus term this year.
