I can't remember what documentary it was in but I clearly remember Jobs praising the tech of microsoft but commenting how they as a company completely lacked taste. I think of that quote often, but always when apple has rolled out products in the last 5 years.

Yeah. I used to be there. I just can't justify it anymore with the cost of these phones, honestly. It used to be a $650 upgrade, sold the previous for $300-400. The. It was $750 (plus version). Now it's $1000 (maybe more with the larger screen?).

Return in investment isn't what it used to be. And honestly, these are all wants not needs at this point for me. I guess they always were, but with two kids, a marotgage, etc priorities have shifted.

Dude I hear you. I have a 6 and it's perfect, just a little slow, and I feel confident I can repair it and it is somewhat durable. Is it waterproof? No. but I have a headphone jack and an actual home button that clicks. Replacement parts are cheap, I've replaced the battery ($20) and the BT/GPS antenna ($4) and it's been rock solid for 4 years besides those 2 issues.

All of the new features I'm missing:

-glass phone (now I have to worry about 2 sides of the phone shattering)
-waterproof (ip67)
-no headphone jack
-better camera (I remember when the razer had an amazing 1.3mp camera)
-faster processor
-face id
-qi charging
-???

I think the next iPhone i buy will have to have USB C, they'll have to make the change sooner or later, plus it makes sense when you look at the macbook, macbook pro, and imac pro.

It's funny because everything after the iphone 6 steve jobs had nothing to do with... IDK why I used to get excited about the new iphones and macbook pros... now I get frustrated. Here's to hoping there's something to get excited about this round.

Man I don’t know who leaked all this stuff and if it was intentional or not but if they find out who it was they should be fired. Sorry. I feel bad for all the employees especially the marcoms folks. It absolutely sucks when everything about a product is known two weeks before the event.

I’m No longer under the influence or inclination that these photo’s were ‘accidentally’ leaked, I believe Apple wants to tease their new products with these photos. I think this is a way to gain traction and build hype for the keynote coming up, and what not a better way to advocate what they have in store for the iPhone and Apple Watch. If they were intentionally leaked, you can best believe Apple will find out how they were leaked and _who_ is responsible, and the individual(s) responsible Will be held accountable.

Last time I looked the trade in for IPX 256 was $520. Trade ins are not as good as selling self. That is pretty close to what you were using as previous phones.
I used to be able to get damn near what I paid for a phone because through subsidy or a deal through the carrier I was never paying full price for the phone to begin with.

In subsidy days people argue you still paid for the phone. You did, for sure, but you were paying for it whether you decided to upgrade or not; it didn't make sense not to. More recently they were either doing buy one get one deal, or they were just straight up offering free upgrades if you traded your previous phone in. They've done away with that.

I have a 64gb X. Right now I stand to lose around $400 on it after a year of owenership if I go the eBay or swap route. That's not very attractive to me. I sold my 6s plus after two years of owenership for $380. It was the 64gb version, so $850 msrp (though I didn't lay that due to some T-Mobile perks, but let's pretend). So I lost $470 after those two years, and could have (should have) gone another year.

The rumors I've seen say a separate event in October will have the new iPads, new Mac mini, and new MacBook/Air

I was hoping they would come out in September but most likely October like you say since the watch was leaked, the iphone was leaked, but oh they forgot to leak the ipad

It's a money making scheme. Go ahead and hate me, but this is not for me...
Waiting for MacPro 2019 or no Apple at all.

If this is all real then I will be buying the Plus version in gold and that Apple Watch.

Undoubtedly these leaks of what the iPhone Xs and Series 4 Apple Watch you are seeing is real, there is _no_ reason to believe otherwise that these are fake.

The x ticked a a lot of my wants:
Greatly reduced bezel
No home button
Amoled

I do miss the headphone jack and I knew I would despite people insisting I was living in the past. Maybe I still am.

I figured the smaller than 6s plus screen size would be ok. It mostly is, but I do miss it. I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of my 6s plus. It needed a new battery but it would have been worth the $35 Apple was charging after people found out they're throttling. Hindsite and all that...

While I don't have any specific gripes about the X (other than buying something I truthfully didn't need), I still think the 6s plus is the best iPhone Apple ever put out in terms of value.

Like the surface of bubble wallpaper, not so keen on shiny gold - looking forward to seeing the plus model in person. I don’t know if it can tempt me to upgrade earlier, but I think it’s going to look phenomenal :)

Just so we’re all on the same page, the notch will remain.

Genius that they used an image from space to help "hide" the top notch. Top notch, top knot haircut... hate them both lol. But buying one anyway!

My girlfriend still has her 6S in good physical shape. We just went to the Apple Store to get her battery replaced for free under the 'random shutdown affecting a small number of iPhones' of which the offer was good for 3 years from purchase, and next month would hit the 3 year mark. She waited basically last minute, but will now have a newer feeling phone. She's happy and has no urgency to upgrade.

Meanwhile, I sold my 6S last year to get the iPhone 8. It was $300 less than the iPhone X, I thought I'd miss Touch ID, and whatever other justifications I had. I planned to just keep it for 2-3+ years. Here we are a year later, and kicking myself for that. I do have OLED envy, just how much nicer and functional no bezel is, and wanting the dual camera system. If I still had the 6s, easy decision to upgrade this year. Now it's a much more difficult decision to eat the cost of an iPhone 8 one-year rental.

For me, the headphone jack had a worthy successor already well before the iPhone 7 was released.

For you....not to the rest of us. Even if the headphone jack stayed, you'd still have your wireless option. I don't understand all the complaining about it.

Piggybacking off an earlier post, I really thought Apple would stick with X as this decade’s naming structure. Basically:

1st cycle: Original iPhone - iPhone X
2nd cycle: iPhone 9 for 2018’s LCD model + the “new” iPhone X/iPhone X Pro, then drop back to 2 models in 2019 and beyond with each year stating the “new” iPhone X/X Pro.

This way it aligns all of Apple’s products and yes I know that there is a difference between “Pro” models (i.e. MacBook Pro vs MacBook) but from a cohesive branding standpoint it’s the only way to make sense of everything. The “new” iPhone. Simple.
