I can't wait to see what the new Mac Mini looks like. It's been so long with the current (still great!) form factor, but with Apple Silicon it's now possible to make it even smaller, and hopefully cheaper. I'd love to be able to grab one for under $500 again.

Right. The current Pro mini has 4 USB-C, 2 USB-A, HDMI, 10Gb Ethernet, and a headphone jack. If you want to replace all of that with USB-C/Thunderbolt, fine, but then give us the same number of ports to hold all the dongles. Every single one of these so-called "hubs" suck in some way particular to that model of hub.

Nah, they dont all suck. Only the cheapy ones do. The Thunderbolt 3 and 4 docks I've used have been a dream.

Please release a new Magic Keyboard and Mouse alongside it!
I'm all in for the USB-C version of the Mouse!

A bit strange to use "5 Port" as a descriptor. Hopefully, this doesn't mean there will be models with fewer ports.

Consider the current configurations, it could mean:

6 ports become 5 in a PRO config and
4 ports become 3 in a BASE config

OR

4 ports become 5 in BASE and
6 ports become 7 in PRO

OR

No port differentiation between BASE & PRO. They all come with 5 ports.

ehhh... most power users have thunderbolt docks right, those usually have networking (and USB-A ports) built in.
Why should we have to buy additional hardware to get basic functionality out of existing hardware? I sold my M2 Mini because it was ridiculous that I'd need to spend money on docks and hubs because of arbitrary Apple hardware limitations.
Why are USB specs 5v 900ma? This isn't 1999.
Why are there so few ports, are we rationing them?
Why do SFF and Micro Desktops from competitors have more ports than Apple?

Dongle City here we come!😁

Is the rumored smaller, (AppleTV-size) new, Mac mini actually smaller if it generally needs a hub right next to it to end up with the same number of ports?

And do we think a cut in ports that may beg for more spending on a port-expanding hub will yield a lower price or "same great price" or higher price? HahaHaha. I wrote that one and laugh at it myself.

Hello Dongle City.

Hello Dongle City.

That clean Apple aesthetic tho!
(until you start actually trying to do anything)

Fully fully agree!!!

But speaking for myself 'we' buy additional hardware because 'we' are nerds and optimization is everything!

For a minute I thought its an Innovative Anker USB 5 Port desktop charger but then I made a mistake!
