ehhh... most power users have thunderbolt docks right, those usually have networking (and USB-A ports) built in.
It would be a bad idea to compare me with a power user. Most of the time a tablet works the best for me.
I can edit photos a little easier with Windows Paint, especially to make them avatar friendly.
I recently used Windows Media Player as I had some NEW CDs.
I have both iPad and Android tablets. That is almost all I need on a daily basis.
USB A is a pain as it only goes one way. Half the time, I'm wrong.
I don't know USB C that well, but it appears way more capable.
Apple is good at "throwing the baby out with the bath water."
My 2014 PC is running Windows 11 unofficially.
I'm testing it a year in advance of Microsoft pulling support for Windows 10.
I would probably love to have a mini. Not necessary yet.
Still want wired keyboard and mouse!

110% For Sure the Base will still only have 2 USB/Thunderbolt 4 Ports in the back. The Pro model will have 4.
Both will have one port in the front. On the base it will be USB 3.1 only. On the Pro it will be USB/Thunderbolt 4.

HDMI will remain on all. Every other connector is fair game to be "COURAGED" into a up-sale dongle. Though I'd be less upset about it if Apple made a sleek USB-C to 2.5Gbps and Thunderbolt to 10Gbps adapters. Silly they don't have an option for the MacBook Pro.

Most likely a pretty high-price Mini Pro. If it comes in priced close to the current non-Pro mini at these prices, that will be excellent.

If it really is the size of an AppleTV, then that would be impressive and then why is the AppleTV so big?
Apple TV is the size it needs to be for the technology. A Mac Mini 2024 should be the same size as it's basically the same technology.

It’s very hard to imagine that the upcoming Mini will ship without an Ethernet port, considering how often Minis are used as servers, in rack-mount configurations, etc. I have to assume that these “5 USB-C ports” are in addition to at least an Ethernet port, an HDMI port, and a standard 3.5 mm audio out jack.

Wonder if comes with a 10G Ethernet port? (as an option like the current mini?)

As long as it also has ethernet and HDMI, might be usable. But 5 ports without is not usable at all.
I would prefer a dedicated ethernet port as well. But why not Thunderbolt for video? My monitor doesn't even have HDMI input.

Instant buy for me. I have a couple of homes; this is just a throw-in-the-bag device for wherever I go. The current one is not big, but this is just better and smaller.

For about $25, you can get a hub that offers both (more if you want 10Gb), as well as SD and micro SD slots, and two USB-A ports. Usable again!

A bit strange to use "5 Port" as a descriptor. Hopefully, this doesn't mean there will be models with fewer ports.
If it’s anything like the studio I’d bet the base has 3 or 4 ports on the back and nothing on the front and the m4 pro/higher end version has an additional 1 or 2 ports on the front

How noisy will the M4 Pro version be? I fear the worst, a hot and noisy machine when doing more demanding tasks. Simply for the sake of shrinking a DESKTOP computer a few extra centimeters.

Also, I'm sure Apple will find a way to crank up the price even higher, while keeping pre-2020 base specs.

Very skeptical about this one, but we'll see...

I might consider the mac mini if it's strong enough for Logic Pro and serious recording

But.. I am not paying that for a raspberry pi? Why do we need a smaller mac mini? It's called mini as it's.. SMALL. Already. So infuriating as all know this means, more heat and more noise and that's the last thing we need.

Curse the day Apple bought Logic. Affects so many people.

I know the footprint of the current Mini isn't exactly hulking, but an even more compact mini-Mini on my desk would tempt me to finally break from my iMac and go with a Mini-based setup.
