Dark Mode? White on black, hope Invert colors will repair it. As for the Dock, for years I've been using cDock to get a black background for the dock. The gray icons on the available backgrounds weren't suitable to my 84 year old eyes. Smaller fonts,Gawd I hope not.
Forgot to mention, The apparent "new" trash icon is barely visible, even after zooming in. Wish the OLD trash icon would return.

I wonder if there will be a notion of dark and light desktops. So when you switch from dark mode to light mode, the image of the Mojave desert at night will change to an image of the Mojave desert during the day.

Bright white screens are easy on your eyes for hours a day? Interesting

Not bright white (that is horrible, particularly when iOS went bright white for the menus), but lighter than the text.

I have heard from other people who said their optician had told them it is quite common in older people as their eyes age, and I have started to notice it in the last few years. It feels like my eyes are using the larger surface area of the background for deciding how much light to let in. When the text is brighter, it is therefore too bright and leaves an imprint on my eyes when looking away.

Some people hate the idea of a dark mode - some love it. It’s great to have a choice of both.

I think the white of iOS 7 and Yosemite worked in the era where iOS and Mac screens were comparatively dull and dim compared to our screens nowadays.

Now they are searingly bright with high colour fidelity, massive fields of white are getting a bit much for some. Again, others love that.

Finally, I do wonder if Apple’s App Store infrastructure isn’t getting a bit too old?

As many others have pointed out, a modern web dev environment would have password (and IP) protected dev & staging environments with no need to try and hide ‘spoiler’ videos on live.

hopefully this dark mode is real and means its also coming to iOS 12. The OLED phones and soon tablets really need to have the option available. Its been 5 years too long apple... that and get Siri up to par, the least you can do with the redesign being delayed

Is this Steve Troughton-Smith person a "well-known developer"? I don't know any apps he's developed. All I know is he is a "well-known leaker", and I'm pretty sure there are others out there who should be recognised for their efforts, and not *just* *this* *guy*.

How about spotlight?

From the people under my care nobody uses it. Must be funny folks you take care of ;-)
Sometimes I like to browse in launchpad mode or whatever when I can’t remember the name of an app I am looking for.

And Alfred > Spotlight
[doublepost=1527980494][/doublepost]The News app has grown on me, despite not liking it when it first came out.

I was hoping for a desktop version, so this is exciting for me.

Dark Mode always sounds cool, however, I tend to use it for a little bit and then turn it off.

I hope Apple Mail receives some improvements. I know there are a lot of other options, however, I keep coming back to it because it is so stable and fluid.

The more I look at it the more it makes me feel like it's a skin more than a mode--it reminds me of that app back in OS 8/9 where you could do all sorts of bonkers reskinning. Does anyone remember the name? Apple eventually came out with its own themes, I think in OS 9, with different fonts and sound effects, but there was a third party app that let you do really crazy looking designs.

It's just weird to me that Aqua was supposed to bring this organic life to the Mac over what was considered the staid Platinum appearance. But based on those desktop images above, Platinum now looks positively brimming with life. Platinum is brighter, more colorful, more dimensional. The dark mode isn't bad. It just isn't beautiful.

I don’t understand the allure of dark mode, but if it makes everyone else shut up about dark mode I’m all for it

Some people's eyes are sensitive to the typical 'light' mode within GUIs (and turning down the screen brightness rarely helps because it, too, can cause strain). Dark mode is nice for those types of users—also for those who like to work with the lights dimmed or off. To some, it's purely about cosmetics. For most, however, it's physically soothing.

My eyes are not quite that sensitive, but they do hurt if I stare at a bright white screen for extended periods. 80% backlighting is also the most I can handle—even in a well-lit room.

I think I just came.........to the understanding that this looks amazing.. :D

Looks like the way I had a Unix box set up in the 1980s

I'm the opposite, I find dark modes hard on my eyes. But I look forward to it being an option so that as many people as possible are suited.

People with light colored irises, especially blue, are far more light sensitive to bright light.

Alfred is nice, but another app you have to keep updated on N machines.

Therefore I’m all in on an updated Apple Mail -> I’d prefer an Apple Mail Pro

The Mac is still Apple's most expensive product, and yet it is playing catchup to innovation happening on iPhones and iPads...

And yet, even with that smaller per-unit price tag, those 2 devices are responsible for 69% of Apple's revenue, while the Mac accounts for only 10% (Src: Apple Q2 2018 results).

Apple are not entirely neglecting the Mac, but it has (rightly) not been their primary focus for some time now.

Steven Troughton-Smith today discovered a brief video on Apple's servers that appears to show Xcode 10 running on macOS 10.14.

xcode-10-800x450.jpg

The well-known developer says he found the 30-second clip buried within an API on the backend of the Mac App Store. He shared a direct link to the video, embedded below, with 9to5Mac's Guilherme Rambo.

Given the video originates from Apple's servers, and is for its own Xcode development tool, everything shown is very likely real.

That includes:Xcode 10 has a new dark interface, while the Trash icon in the dock is also darker, suggesting that macOS 10.14 may feature a systemwide dark mode, including in apps. On macOS 10.13, there is a partial dark mode, but only for the dock and top menu bar.
There is an Apple News icon in the dock, suggesting that it will be expanding to the Mac with a desktop app.
The desktop background could be a picture of the Mojave Desert in California during the night, hinting at a macOS Mojave name for the next version. MacRumors recently noted that Mojave could be Apple's top choice based on the company's recent trademark activity. The video itself also likely confirms rumors that the Mac App Store will be redesigned on macOS 10.14 to more closely resemble the App Store on iOS 11, including the addition of preview videos like this one for apps.

The leak comes just two days before Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company is expected to preview macOS 10.14 alongside iOS 12, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12. WWDC opens with a keynote on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.

MacRumors will be in attendance at the keynote, with live coverage of the event beginning shortly after 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Stay tuned to MacRumors.com and our @MacRumorsLive account on Twitter.

This forum is going to melt on Monday if there is no mention of a dark mode during the keynote. It may be one of the most entertaining days in a while.
