Spotlight takes longer and also there’s the problem of some apps having similar names to documents etc.
I think it always puts app results first, but yeah, it's possibly slower.

Oh good gawd, people have been clamoring for a dark mode since OS 8 back in the late 90s.
OS 8 was already kinda dark anyway with all the medium grey boxes.

Craig Federighi better mention that gorgeous black trash can! ;)

Seriously? This isn’t even funny ... Craig as a leader should be focusing more on resolving issues or mentioning resolved issues and major features on stage at WWDC than talking about a dumb icon. See directly below.

... and what about fixing the iOS Simulator, so it doesn't judder and lag? Read the MAS reviews... oh boy... -_-

I don’t understand the allure of dark mode, but if it makes everyone else shut up about dark mode I’m all for it

Dark mode is very useful for less strain on the eyes as constraint is better to focus on especially for those not fully having 20/20 vision. Moreover less power drain.

I gotta say Spotlight is a hell of a lot easier and more informative. A computer by definition in the traditional sense is still to be a lot more powerful and useful than a tablet and smartphone is in this current era. Many don’t wish to use a full out computer as a smartphone or tablet with a grid of applications. Plus the results clearly show what is a file, folder, or application in the Spotlight results.

I like to use the calendar to switch between light and dark menubar and dock depending on the time of day. This is going to be even better for using the Mac at night. Things like the finder just looks blinding after spending hours in code editors right now.

A well-designed dark interface like FCPX is great but I find lots of overlapping black windows harder to use. Mac OS uses drop shadows well and you’d lose that effect with a dark interface.

I find Launchpad easier and faster. I just prefer it for launching applications. I use my Mac for plenty of things that I can't do on my iPad, I work in IT. I have no issue with people using what they find easiest and if thats Spotlight, good for them. I just find it clunky and slow compared to Launchpad for applications. For everything else, then yes I use spotlight.

Beyond hoping this means dark mode for iOS too, I also hope this means OLED on various Macs this autumn! The iPhone X display is gorgeous.

I like the look of it and i think it would help with eye strain especially for those who are on their Mac for long periods of time (work/home).

This year there doesn't seem to be much that we know about (the leaks haven't happened as much as last year) except this dark mode and from what Mark Gurman has said (ie No hardware at WWDC this year) IOS 12 will be announced as will other software platforms, i do think there will be a couple of software surprises in there which is good after all this is WWDC which is all about software. If it wasn't for someone finding that video the dark mode would of been a surprise for many and one that i think people want.

I may be in the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of the dark mode. I see it all over the place, so its certainly a popular theme
First thing I'll have to do is figure out how to turn it off.

As much as I love nightshift, I think darkmode suits better for working at night, especially on xcode where developers are often working at night.
Interesting. Except in January and February, I don't work when it's dark outside.

Well spoken.

I also work in I.T. (Not IT like the book or movie; it’s an abbreviation lol).

I’m very interested to know if the speed or efficiency in using launchpad, much like iOS on two devices, is due to people identifying icons for an app versus the name of an application. More curious how over two generations to more of it would affect or highlight any lack of literacy??

I cannot recall what OS X was like without Spotlight.

Am I the only one that believes that apple should offer DIFFERENT COLORS for the themes, not just gray and dark modes? I would love to add a metallic blue mode or metallic green...

No. Absolutely Not. This is Mac OS, not Myspace OS. Save the kiddie stuff for the kids. Thanks.

macOS Death Valley... the death of macOS on Intel before the switch to ARM.

Doesn’t really sound smart: kill of a major partnership that makes chips in high demand BEFORE transition to another chip? Hehe

Intel is already making smaller an efficient chips with Apple and tiny motherboards (MacBook) that can fit in an iPhone SE!

Moreover even with Samsung and TSMC making Arm chips still not enough for the iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks/MacBook pros and iPads and Macs.

You have. T really thought your hope through have you? I’d like to see it happen succcessfully happen too!

I don't think anyone else realises that the Mac app project was in same project as the iOS app.
Could that mean cross platform apps?

I find the differences are in -

- I just like the pinch in vs the command space, because my hand Is almost always on the trackpad when navigating.
- This is silly but sometimes I'm having a mind blank but know the first letter and launchpad will show all apps starting with that letter, vs Spotlight which won't always.
- The search in launchpad is faster for me, it lags a bit in spotlight.
- I think the larger icons do help.. I don't know :p

I collect old Macs so when I use pre Tiger versions of OSX, it is something I miss a lot.

Dark Mode? White on black, hope Invert colors will repair it. As for the Dock, for years I've been using cDock to get a black background for the dock. The gray icons on the available backgrounds weren't suitable to my 84 year old eyes. Smaller fonts,Gawd I hope not.
Forgot to mention, The apparent "new" trash icon is barely visible, even after zooming in. Wish the OLD trash icon would return.

Remember this is a leak not confirmed. The trash can you know and loved hasn’t yet turned into The Jetsons maid ;)

Right on! Gotta get me one of those external trackpads.

I just remember the bouncy ball and some really cool games that for some reason ONLY existed as widgets, not regular apps, lol.

I want that super-cool screensaver back, that took your pictures out of iPhoto and arranged them in a Photo-Mosaic, and zoomed out to another of your pictures - repeatedly.
When I first saw this, it was truly a 'magical' experience for me. Non of this has happened to me in any Apple feature-presentation as of late.

I miss that one too. Best photos screensaver ever.

Looks great, already use the darker dock and menu bar as I think it looks better - but full dark mode will be a boon for nighttime use in dimmer lighting :)
