Let’s see some of your app / coding OS innovative (never seen before) examples with a large company.

Giving a dark mode/theme doesn't involve any code, it's an artist's job. If the OS let users design or pick their own themes, then that involves an apple developer to make that happen.

Giving a new theme is like just painting a new colour on a car. Doesn't make the car go faster or be more efficient.

It's command + space, type app name, then enter to do the same thing with Spotlight. But I guess you can remap a keyboard shortcut to Launchpad.

Spotlight takes longer and also there’s the problem of some apps having similar names to documents etc.

And yet, even with that smaller per-unit price tag, those 2 devices are responsible for 69% of Apple's revenue, while the Mac accounts for only 10% (Src: Apple Q2 2018 results).

Apple are not entirely neglecting the Mac, but it has (rightly) not been their primary focus for some time now.
I'm not saying the Mac should be Apple's primary focus, but I also don't like to see the Mac lagging way behind. Apple should make every attempt to introduce the new software features on both platforms at the same time rather than wait sometimes years to port iOS features over to MacOS.

Appearance Manager?

I just remembered.

It was Kaleidoscope:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaleidoscope_(software)

It came out before Apple's appearance manager and had thousands of wacky options you could choose from.

But I do remember the Appearance Manager and ResEdit as well.

I think the software was so good because Steve and Scott put a human touch to it. The current leadership is great and all but they’re just too normal. Many people called Forstall and Jobs pricks because they just didn’t get them.

They were pricks because they were so passionate about what they do. Just listening to them talking about their work can tell a lot. Now when I hear Jony or Tim talking about things, they just repeat the same old thing again and again. I never learn anything new from them. Thank god for Craig because he seems like the only one who gives a damn.

The more I know about the crisis that happened in 2013 the more I’m convinced that Apple is now run by agenda and not by novel ideas. I freaking loved Forstall talking about the creation of the iPhone last year.

There is no friction anymore which Jobs loved because he understood that it brought out the best in each other. Cook thinks the opposite and wanted a “harmonious working environment”, thinking that would bring the team together closer assuming it would also bring out the beat in them. Well, we all know how that’s turning out. Jobs’ approach was the right one; you need friction in the company because it brings out the best results. He compared it to The Beatles, saying how they didn’t get along a lot of the time but ultimately as a group each members qualities brought out the best music.

I loved that Forstall interview too. I was really interested in what he had to say and he delivered. I wish that the interviewer asked him about his thoughts on iOS 7 and flat design though and if he still uses an iPhone but oh well. He kept me engaged, was charismatic, wasn’t boring, and had interesting stories that were told with humour. You could sense that he’s still very passionate and was proud of the work he’s done. I like him because he reminds me of Jobs, he’s the closest thing we have to him and shares a lot of his qualities. His interview was more interesting and engaging than any of the employees currently at Apple. That’s the kind of guy I want as their CEO.

Here’s a quote from his interview when he was questioned about skeumorphism: "When I look at design - when I look at good design - it's approachable, friendly, you can use it without a manual. It's fun.“

Now it’s the complete opposite. The fun has been ripped out of it because Ive dislikes “whimsy”. He prefers one of those generic modern houses with white walls and little furniture which lacks any warmth or character. Jobs preferred a cottage house with a cosy fireplace, wooden furnishings, stone floors and interesting ornaments.

Some people prefer the same house as Ive but I find it to be cold, sterile, and uninviting while lacking any character. I prefer Steve’s house which I find to be more inviting, warm, with a lot of character and more interesting things to look at.

Uh, yeah, it does. I just happen to be in the process of implementing a dark interface mode in my own iOS app. It’s taken dozens of lines of code, several hours of work programming and testing, and careful planning to make the switch live and make sure that the switch doesn’t bog things down, and I’m not even done implementing it yet.

I don’t understand the allure of dark mode, but if it makes everyone else shut up about dark mode I’m all for it
I work at the computer at night for hours straight. It’s a relief for my eyes not having to stare at all the blinding windows.

It helps a lot when you work in front of the screen all day. Bright colors are hard on many peoples eyes after so long and you leave the office with eye strain. Dark mode helps alleviate that.

If you say so. I’ve worked in front of monitors all day for 30 years. They used to be light on dark, and were much harder on ones eyes. There’s a reason paper is white. But to each his or her own. Like I said, I’m just glad I won’t have to hear everyone whining about it anymore.

Apparently everyone's eyes are burning every time they see a white screen. I have no idea how they're able to tolerate reading MacRumors.

Am I the only one that believes that apple should offer DIFFERENT COLORS for the themes, not just gray and dark modes? I would love to add a metallic blue mode or metallic green...

Maybe overdue but it is far more than changing colours if it is going to look anywhere near polished.
I think the correct approach would be to first updated the whole visual design language to intentionally support both a light and dark appearance. Painting over UI designed to be light feels like a bit of a compromise lacking visual cohesiveness.

My hyperbole aside, I do agree with you.

But in the grand scheme of what Apple needs to be doing updating the whole visual design language is a very minor and simple thing for Apple to do. It's taken years for this visual change and everything else is so stagnate that this seems like a major new thing.

Lord why?
[doublepost=1528003624][/doublepost]How about fixing and fully documenting the new file system? Unifying differences between iOS and macos (why do I turn on iCloud messages in settings on the iPhone but in messages preferences on the Mac? Why do I update my os from the mas? Etc.) Basic Siri-supporting apps everywhere (calculator, weather, stocks, etc) and Siri feature parity across all devices. Multi-user ipad. Split window features in full screen mode on Mac. Handoff music and videos. Home video sharing from Mac iTunes to iPhones and iPads (and not just tvOS. It works like crap on other devices in the tv app). Feature parity in messages. Fix mail.app. Not to mention general stability improvements. So many things that I’d rather see than changing the color of windows. Whatever.
