I seriously need a new MBP, but I'll probably skip this one, because I fear we'll get an April refresh with Kaby Lake and better GPUs...

As my next computer will be with me for 4-5 years, I don't mind waiting a few more months, instead of going for last year's CPU architecture and AMD GPUs that are far behind what Nvidia can offer.

Yeah, well, I had the same sentiment with the refresh of last year when Skylake was released. I thought to postpone me buying the 2015 MBP since Skylake was to be released and I thought Apple would release another refresh of the MBP somewhere in May/June 2016. It didn't happen. I really wouldn't be surprised if the next refresh only happens at the end of next year or even mid-2018.

I hope to be surprised, then! I wish they'd just delay a few more months and release a future-proof computer with Kaby Lake CPUs and a GTX 1050/1060 (or an AMD GPU with equivalent performance). I'll keep hoping!

Soo, no HDMI, no MagSafe, no SD card reader, a gimmicky touch bar… just wow. Takes a lot of courage.

I think people will also be surprised how little the performance gains are in the latest generation Skylake processors versus what they already have in their late 2013 and 2014 MacBook Pros. There is a boost, but it is fairly minuscule in comparison to the bumps we see on the iOS device side.

There was never really a good reason for Apple to spec bump what they already sell. They have waited for a more pronounced update with new features such as the touch bar, Touch ID, and new connectors.

If it's gonna have 4 USB-C ports and a headphone jack only, than it absolutely won't deserve the "Pro" tag...

Everyone prepare for #USBGate, #SDCardGate, #MagSafeGate and #HDMIGate…

You forgot #Skylakegate

Just release something and keep the 3.5mm headphone jack. Maybe also do something really courageous..., like supplying more than 1 or 2 USB-C Ports.

Don't worry--you're getting FOUR USB-C ports and nothing else

... what? Kaby Lake chips for a MBP are not available or even launched yet. The Skylake ones Apple are very much most likely to use have not shipped in any laptop yet, only Intel's own NUC as of late this summer. What are you talking about?

Yes, most of us are aware of that. It's about a closer cooperation between Apple and Intel so Apple's product timeline isn't so silly that with a product launch, your chip is already a year or more late. That's what I'm talking about. Wouldn't be beneficial for Apple to get newest and much better technology than to settle for much worse option? The update is already much overdue so waiting a few more months to get the right chips wouldn't make a difference.

LONG overdue. You know there's a problem when MacRumor's buyer's guide looks like this.

How does a computer company completely ignore it's top of the line Mac Pro for THREE years without updating it? It's honestly embarrassing. That said, I'm (im)patiently waiting for the new MacBook Pro updates.
Apple is no longer a computer company, they are primarily a cellphone maker, who happen to make a few computers every now and then.

Great point! Why on earth would Apple not include a lightning connector? Surely there is enough room. I'm sure you're right...and if you are...I have to seriously question Apple's lack of continuity on ports...crazy!

Also, MagSafe has been the best thing EVER for laptops. Why on earth would they remove this?!?!

Apple has confused "simplicity" with "uniformity." Simplicity means ease of use. Uniformity means lack of diversity. All USB-C is an example of uniformity but the need to use adapters for everything decries any claim to simplicity.

Magsafe is useless since the new macbooks are becoming even lighter

Wut? MagSafe works fine on my MBA. New MBPs won't be lighter than that.

Wonder if they will remove the 3.5mm audio jack.

I hope they don't remove the magsafe port, I think that is one of their coolest laptop innovations.
At this stage, Tim Cook seems intent on totally destroying Steve Job's legacy one bad decision and lame product at a time. Decades of good design and fantastic products at Apple under the leadership of Jobs seems to be being put under the Tim Cook redevelopment program and turned into a parody of what they used to be.

At this stage it's very clear that Cook has no idea what he is doing, and he has the leadership skills of a tomato. The sooner Apple puts him in the role of a manager and gets a REAL leader the better.

But you have missed the point. The late release of Skylake quad-cores with GT3e or GT4e was planned by Intel to be released alongside the Kaby Lake Y- and U- CPUs. Perhaps this is why there is a rumor Apple may shift to AMD's APU for CPU and iGPU when Zen debuts next year.

I really don't understand why there are only 4 USB-C ports. It's a laptop there is a ton of space for ports. Also why no lightning port it makes no sense.
This is bad enough on a laptop, but it's even worse on a desktop. Personally, my Windows desktop machine has got 12 USB ports, and even that isn't enough. Having only 4 USB ports on a modern machine is a sick joke.

Well I didn't, this isn't only about one release - it's been on-going for several years. I was speaking about a close collaboration between Intel and Apple so Macbook Pros would be focused on power users as well as in the past. That is very possible reason why the rumour has started for sure, you are right. However I guess I'm not the only one who would rather see a shift to nVidia for GPUs for 13" and 15" inch MBP and using Intel GPUs for MB and MBA along with better co-operation with Intel regarding chipsets so we are not constantly behind.

Kaby lake has been the biggest jump in two years, especially on GPU performance and battery life, yet Apple doesn't seem to be Planning on intorsucing it anytime soon. Guess I'lol be waiting until the Cannonlake MBPs.
So you want Apple to delay the MBP rollout until late Q1 of 2017 when those chips will be available? I'm sure Apple wants to get an update out before the holidays.

Death of LIGHTNING PORT  = Yes, Apple will do it! The old iOS 30-pin connector lasted about 4 years and the current LIGHTNING port has been around for even longer than that. However, it's *still* using USB 2.0 speeds, with the possible exception of the iPad Pro. Apple is embracing USB type-C for its connection, but it also needs THUNDERBOLT. Right now, THUNDERBOLT fails to include DisplayPort 1.3 protocol and so I highly suspect that 2017 or early 2018 will be when Apple kills off the lightning connection and puts USB type-C 3.1 on all of its iOS product line and puts USB type-C with Thunderbolt 4 (with support for external 5K sst displays) on its MacBook Pro and Mac Pro line.

The timeline behind this has a lot to do with design changes due to microprocessors making the leap from 14nm to 10nm in Q4 2014 (or maybe Q1 2018). And, microLED display technology.

Apple does love to make its own propriety ports, but it hates to make things convoluted/difficult for a consumer who is willing to buy all-Apple, all-latest model gear. That's what I've seen in the past, at least!
In fact the 30 pin connector lived from 2003-2012.

You don't get it. A year or more late? The chips are new. Skylake didn't *all* come out a year ago, it's a staggered rollout of many variants throughout the last year, and are still happening. Like the Skylake Xeons will still come out next year sometime, etc. Part of the reason for the "delay" if there ever was one is that they were waiting for the newest and better technology which hadn't been out until...wait for it... now.

12 is not enough? get a hub or switch to a connector that is daisy-chainable. jeez.

Agreed, but with Apple seeing a 40% drop in shipments, and some of the computer models are still on Haswell, I think its a mistake to wait until 2017 for Kaby Lake. Apple painted themselves into this corner and now we're stuck with the result

No you don't get it. In the past, Apple used to have deals with Intel and was usually the first to get the chips once they've been released so the product releases were much better synchronised, which they are absolutely not at the moment. Of course, they are more variants both mobile and desktop but if the companies worked closer together.

Right, in that case, they should wait for Q1 2017 and release a product with much better specs when Kaby Lakes for MBP are released. Because you are saying - release the MBP with Skylake now even though a much better chip is coming in a few months.

I understand they need to release it for holiday season but this is just silly in the overall context. It just shows you how much Apple shifted in the last a couple of years and that they don't care about Macbook line or Mac Pro line in general.

....and not to mention..all the charisma of an undertaker!

Why would Intel be wanting a deal with Apple? It's not like Apple represents a huge share of the market, and I don't think it would come as a huge surprise in future years if Apple started using their own chips in some of their PC line-up.

Finally.

My Mac Book Pro Retina from 2012 is now crashing every other day. The track pad i broken. The batter life is short, network card gets overheated and slow. The screen has burn in, some keys don't work and I'm on my third power adaptor.

How did you break the track pad?
