M1 Pro

Not M1x. C'mon. The "x" thing was a iPad and apple tv moniker that indicated mostly doubling of graphics performance. I think M series chips will have a TON more **** to offer, so "x" does not cut it anymore. The "Pro" makes a ton more sense. They are already using it for devices, so why not the chips?

This is off subject but I really hope Apple doesn’t name all of their processors the same way they do with iPhones, m1, m2, m3 etc. I’m sure a lot of people won’t care but at least with Intel they stuck with i5, i7, i9 etc for years even though they were updated and had other names.

It’s not a big deal but I feel like people will begin to assume their MacBooks are “too old” once m2, m3 etc come out and in a sense always feel out of date, where it wasn’t exactly so obvious with intel, maybe it’s just me though.
Apple's way of naming their processor is perfect. A1, A2, A3, etc and when there is an X at the end, you know that it is more powerful version of the same family chip. Nobody thinks that iPhone 11 is "too old" just because there is iPhone 12 now.

We all know Prosser is going to use this in his next vid and make out Apple pulled it right at the death… yeah sure they did even though the tag is still listed on the video 2 days after WWDC…

Because there were no realistic expectations that any of those would be announced.
Ok why not iPhone 13, apple watch 6, etc? Even AR/VR, cant remmeber which, was rumored (not the glassed but a headset)

It's VERY specific to use a Macbook and unreleased chip name.

I dont buy "for the views" Do you REALLY think Apple cares about YouTube ad revenue or views? Especially for a dev conference for free software.

There are many plausible scenarios. It's simply not ready/supply issues still oversees. Hell, they could have even saw the presentation going 2 full hours and said it was too long already for the software stuff; make it its own event later. An all new laptop would not be 5-10 min only.

This would not be the first time products sat in storage waiting to be announced.

Most people think their phones are too old when a new version comes out, it’s literally why there are so many people who upgrade their phone every year for no real reason other than getting the newest.

If they are going to go the same way as iPhone chips, it only makes more sense to just name each iPhone, iPad and Mac after the year they came out. Maybe start calling things the 2022 iPhone/iPad/Mac instead of whatever number they decide to choose, since they’ve skipped iPhone numbers anyways.

Considering they flexed how many viewers they had at last years online only WWDC right at the start of this years WWDC makes me think it’s quite important to apple to get as many views as possible.

This is nothing more than the work of an SEO person boosting their rankings. Also, at this point, I think it’s just as likely we’ll see the M2 drop to update their low end products and around the same time the M2X for the higher-end stuff this autumn. Obviously we don’t know yet the pattern but it should be similar to A series and update yearly. If Apple releases an M1X it’s likely that an M2 base might not be much slower.

Probably just someone at Apple being good at SEO or Youtube literally self-generating tags based on recent trends.

I am pretty sure that the top people at Apple wouldn’t have specifically mentioned to their SEO person, listen we are launching an M1X MacBook Pro at WWDC so make sure you put that on the tag list…

The most likely thing to have happened is Apple would have briefed the SEO person to try and get as many viewers as possible, said SEO person just searched online for what people have been talking about during the lead up to WWDC and one of the main things was the M1X MacBook Pro, and so it was tagged in the video.

This definitely is nothing worth looking too deeply into, did Apple drop it at last minute? We will never know, but I find it hardly likely considering the event was already 1 hr 46 mins long, pretty much the same same as last years 1 hr 48 minute long event.

The tags are meant to reach out to users looking at related videos. Youtube has been FULL of rumours that an m1x macbook was coming at WWDC. Someone at Apple's social media team is good at their job and used the tag to get more eyes on the video
Also, if that were true, why wouldn't they have also included tags for M2? I've seen people posit the name M2 as the name of their next processor more often than I have heard M1X. If the goal was to reach people searching for rumored terms, M2 makes more sense than M1X. I think what's much more likely is that they changed plans somewhat last minute because of the display shortages.

Put it this way whether the MBP’s were pulled last minute or not is irrelevant, if they were pulled last minute due to display delays, it must be quite a bit of a delay for them to pull them.

If they would have been delayed to launch in August instead of July, they would have still most likely announced them at WWDC, so if it is the case that they were pulled this is confirmation that they are likely to come in October/November.

I've seen M1X much more than M2, but yes I've seen both.

The main things I have heard about are M1X MacBooks and iPadOS when searching for WWDC this year as they were expected to be the two main headliners… yet iPadOS wasn’t even mentioned.

A lot of people use iOS and iPadOS interchangeably, for obvious reasons.
