Yeah...I hear ya...I'm sure fanboys here will reply/scream "but it's not even released yet!!!!" but the fact is that more than 32 apps should be ready to go on Day 1. Out of the tens of thousands of apps (and yes, I know not all NEED to be retina-quality), we have a whopping 32. I was really expecting at LEAST 100 on launch day of iPad 3.0. This seems to be a recurring theme with Apple since Apple was born....release something new/cool/exciting and have almost nothing 3rd party ready to launch with it. :(

so you don't know how this works, huh? Apple does not release details of new product specs until the official announcement. That is the day that developers can START updating their apps to take advantage of any new features (e.g. - Retina display). Apple has nothing to do with how quickly (or even IF) the developers update their apps.

That's not a complete list. For one - Galaxy on Fire 2 HD is available now with iPad Retina graphics yet it's not showing up in that list; and that game should be one of the first out in showing off the new iPad's graphics.

I know how it works...and I rest my case.

It's only a matter of time until more apps are upgraded to take advantage of Apple's new 2048x1536 screen. I'm guessing within a few weeks there will be plenty.

You know damn well iPad developers are racing to get their apps upgraded for Retina.

On the other hand... how many apps are designed to take advantage of the 1280x800 screens on most Android tablets?

They've been out for over a year! Isn't that more cause for concern?

.

The point is, as a potential iPad 3 owner, I don't care what Android offers or other competitors.

Sure, apps will eventually come. But we all know (and have known for months) that iPad's next big thing was the retina display. If the app developers weren't told about it, that's Apple's lame problem. If I were an app developer, I would have assigned resources to "double" the resolution on my apps so they natively look nice on the iPad 3.0.

Well then :p

Here's what one developer said on the matter:

This is slightly embarrassing: Instapaper doesn’t show Retina-resolution graphics on the new iPad yet.

Anticipating a Retina iPad, I’ve been shipping the 2X-resolution graphics in Instapaper since October. I assumed that if the app were to run on a Retina iPad, it would switch to the 2X graphics automatically.

I learned just yesterday that this isn’t the case: the new iPad will only show Retina graphics for an app if it has been built with the brand-new version of the developer tools that were released last week.

Yes... we knew Apple would put a Retina display in the next iPad... but it still took additional steps to make it work.

So again... it will take a lil time for EVERY developer to hop on board.

Enjoy your new iPad. I will be setting up my mom's new iPad today! Her first!

As has been discussed, you probably have Itunes installed.

MR would warn if Flash or Silverlight were needed to follow a link, so why don't they warn if other third party applications need to be installed?

It says there is a new section in iTunes, wouldn't that come with an understanding that if you don't have iTunes installed you wouldn't be able to see said list?

i think i've decided i will wait to get the next iPad next year, so hopefully the 64GB version will be reduced in price.

i can see the writing on the wall that 32GB is really not enough space for all the Retina apps, 1080p movies, and megapixel photos.

No Kindle app listed....?

That's dirty pool Apple.

Is it? The book navigation buttons are still upscaled on the new version. While much of the Kindle App looks great it has not been fully Retina-ized.

It seems Apple is only highlighting apps that have been fully updated for the retina.

Once the app is fully updated to support the new resolution we can point fingers.

Thanks! I can't wait....just a pity UPS are useless and have left my iPad behind in the depot. Won't get it 'til later on

 Guess what, UPS delayed my delivery too! I'm in Germany and now it's frakkin stuck in transit! And here I was thinking 'oh good, I'm in a good spot coz I ordered within 5 mins of the online store opening!' UGH!
