Definitely good. I'm sick and tired of having to buy a new computer just to get a new window sticker for my car.

It's called corp Id. people. Don't knock it.

Apple has established themselves again in the world with ipod, now if they do it even more with the APPLE LOGO think how far the company can go.

Apple already has the fastest growing computer market. They must be doing something right.

Uh huh. You realize Apple is 30 years old, right? Once you factor in their past, and the fact that they've made this mistake before, you realize people don't care long-term about corporate branding, I mean it might influence a person in day-to-day decisions but give it a year or two, new brands have overcome old ones. Apple can't compete with brands that reinvent themselves constantly, but they can compete with computers. In fact, a long time ago, Apple actually devoted itself to making computers

I'll say it again, Apple's making a mistake here, those stores are too valuable and still (yes, still) have to prove themselves as long-term viabilities. They're not going to do that by taking away products and introducing logo t-shirts.

Now the one exception I'll make is if Apple did suddenly start competing with their branding, making shirts and accessories that are actually trendy... but... i'd imagine it'll be the same-ol, same-ol stuff. selling t-shirts isn't a good way to boost investor confidence unless you're Hanes.

very cool!

I have been wanting them to do something like this...seems silly to ONLY make that stuff available at the company store...at least an online outlet would have been fine as well.

I wouldn't mind having a polo that I could wear to work.

Three Words:

About.

Friggin.

Time.

Some more words: I've been waiting for Apple to trip over someone with some real brand building stratigies for years now! Think about it - what are people who are asked about their Cool Apple Gear they're wearing gonna do? They're gonna sell Apple to those who ask about that Cool Apple Polo! Gee, I've been seeing those commercials with those dancers and the Apple Logo at the end, what's so good about an Apple Computer? And WHAMMO! A new Apple Computer User is born. I can't wait to wear more Apple gear than those special event tee shirts I've got. Apple Hat, Apple Shirts, and hopefully, Apple Pens :) Hell, I'd even wear an Apple Belt Buckle if I could score one ;D

Bad idea...

You have always been able to buy "stuff" but it was not sold by Apple. It made the items seem special, now it's imac aprons ?
I think they are pushing it, stay focused Apple!
Don't be tacky. Golf stuff ? Who cares, golf sucks balls.

If they only sold it online, it would be ok.
Now they will ruin the great look of the stores with lame baseball hats.
Apples street cred and hipness factor gone in a split second.
Too bad...

dammit, now i'm going to have to do all my cloths shopping at the apple store.

I think they ought to bag the idea of selling this stuff in their stores and just ad a link to buy the stuff on-line at their web store. I'd love to pick up some more Apple gear, but Cupertino is far away, and eBay and the online stores like redlightrunner and missingbite are pricey.

hehe, just slap the Apple logo on any item and suddenly the price goes up 35%.

I agree, I don't live anywhere near an apple store, so what does that mean, i'm SOL? I've always wanted to score an apple t-shirt or an Apple hoodie, how can I get this stuff if I can't get to an apple store....?

Let me guess,, I can't right? :(

I think this is good idea, as many Mac owners are also Mac obsessed. The Apple logo is pretty trendy (far better than the Windows logo; I can't see that on clothes), and as long as the designs are nice, I forsee good sales. Nowadays when you look around in the juniors and younger men's sections of stores, you see lots of clothes with brand logos on them.

As I said though, to sell well, the design has to be perfect, and they also better make the items in sizes for women. If there's some baby t-shirts of tank tops, I can see teenage girls buying the items. So many girls at my school love to show off their ipod mini's, just because they are so trendy, so what's to stop them from wearing Apple clothes with very trendy logos and designs.

I personally would buy a t-shirt or polo shirt, but only if it was fitted and sized for women/juniors. And I would love some cool keychains, pens, etc. My dream item would be a glass paperweight in the shape of the Apple logo.

As for the naysayers, if this doesn't turn out to be successful, I don't think it would be a huge problem. They're obviously not going to have too large a supply, as the article says only a tiny space will be cleared out. I don't think stock prices are going to dip down too much if it doesn't work out.

If you click on the link, in today's news, right after the part about the logo merchandise being added, it also mentions that software is no longer going to be sold in Apple retail stores. At the closet Apple Store to me (Tampa), software took up a good amount of space, so I wonder what's going to replace it. Perhaps it will be this Apple Logo merchandise.,

An Abercrombie and Hollister on each side of the Apple Store in the mall?

I'd probably buy something if the price is right. No way in hell would I spend 30 bucks for a shirt just to become a walking billboard for a company.

I like the idea of Apple selling some branded merchandise. I live in a resort town that brands the hell out of everything. It is shameless self promotion but thats a reality of the time we live in and brand recognition is part of it. Every person that goes into an Apple Store does not buy a new computer or iPod, but many would buy a piece of logo wear as a keepsake or to prove their coolness to their friends and others.

My younger brother owned and operated a very successful skateboard shop for over 5 years. He made his money not by selling skateboards but by selling skateboard clothing and skate shoes. If you have a hot brand it sells itself and is incredably profitable.

I am not saying that Apple logo wear sales will outsell Macs and iPods. But the fact remains that selling logo wear could be a profitable at Apple Stores and after reading this thread, many of us would buy one thing or another with the Apple logo on it.

No, from the sound of it, it's not a good idea.

It might be a good idea short term, but it will push the Apple brand in the wrong direction, a cheap tacky direction. It's like when Porsche sells sunglasses, it's a joke.

OK, I think it might work, if the products are few and well designed.

I think a better idea to sell products in limited time periods or use products in give aways or contests. Just like they do now, but using a more visible marketing.

In the end, it really depends on what kind of design and products they wil use. I have seen many "hi end" brand use crap shirts for their "hi end" PR campaigns. Maybe if they did a co branding campaign with Calvin Klein or Diesel we could see something awesome.

I like that they are going to sell these things (hopefully tasteful things, but I can't imagine Apple being tacky about this, seriously) BUT I wish they would just sell the bloody stuff online! I would wear an apple shirt, would especially like a "think different" one, so I'm pleased at this news.

I have a feeling Apple will do it like In-n-Out does it, with a wall display of their whole line-up and all the stock in the back. If somebody wants anything, the Apple store employee can just grab the size from the back.

Fitting rooms in an Apple store? No way!

Im lucky I live in Santa Clara Ca so I get to go the the Cupertino store when I want. Now if I could only get a tour of the Apple campus that would be great

I'm sure it's just full of a bunch of state college "educated" corporate slaves busting their a$$ess trying to feed the incorrigible hunger of the corporate greed-machine. Under constant threat of poor performance reviews and, ultimately, termination. Just like anywhere else.

Better you don't go to the sweatsho. . . -er- campus. It might ruin your perception of your beloved corporation.

ugh... much as i love (and buy) Apple-branded merch, I don't see it being a good sale at the Apple Stores. Taking away floor/wallspace from products and marketing, giving it to a cluttered assortment of egotistical cheap clothes? Hopefully it's just like, an impulse tray of keychains by the checkout iMac or something.

You could not be farther from the truth, my man. The potential sales loss of marketing apple branded clothing in the stores will be FAR offset by the advertising the t-shirts and merchandise will provide. Apple won't be paying anything for the ads--in fact THEY will be paid for the ads.

It's the genius that the designer clothing industry has used for years and if that's what apple is turning into (a chic designer computer company), it's definitely time to buy more apple stock!

 i hope you're just being cheeky, because that sounds a bit aggravated over such an innocuous topic.

Apple shirts are cool because they are hard to get.
If every dude and his mother can get one, the novelty will go away.

What a great idea.

It's like the BMW merchadise store.

However, I reckon that because Apple is a computer manufacturer, they could so easily convince consumers that they also produce other high-quality computer-related devices.

They should bring out Apple media centres and Apple TVs! See Bang & Olufsen.

I think they definitely have the reputation to bring out audio products... maybe cooperate with existing audio equipment manufacturers and co-brand speakers and sound systems.

Apple&Olufsen?

Apple-Kardon?

Apple-B&W?

Apple-JBL?

Apple-Klipsch?

Apple-Bose?

Hi, hope they use the original apple stripey colour logo on some cool black t-shirts, when they fade in the wash they will look like something from the early 1980's ,that all the pioneering developers would have worn. Not the monochrome white apple that gets stuck on everything these days!

I agree! Hee hee, but that's probably because I don't want to lose the exclusiveness of The Company Store. :D
