The team I am working with at Apple confirms there is a major problem . I am only posting what they are telling me .

They confirm there is a major problem with YOUR phone. They don’t know how many phones are affected or even what the issue is.

It could be tens of thousands of phones and still only be .00000001% of all the Xs phones out there.
Assumptions don’t help.

When they say "hardware issue," they are simply talking about YOUR phone, guaranteed. They haven't told you the iPhone XS has a hardware design flaw, so you're overstating how dramatic the problem is for the product at large.

No one at Apple would tell you "HEY WE HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM, BUD!", unless they want to start looking for a new job the next day. :p

I'm seeing 1.8Mbps download on my max vs. 38.4Mbs on my iPad pro sitting right next to it, both on the same network.
You phone could be using one of the newer LTE bands, while the iPad can only connect to an older LTE band. The new bands may not be optimized correctly, the phone is connecting to them when they shouldn't, etc. The new iPhones could very well be the guinea pigs for the carriers to test their new LTE bands.

Could be. At my house I had faster speeds with fewer bars. I'm in the middle of silicon valley, so Apple should have been able to test all this.

After rebooting the phone, I'm up to 5.63 down/3.86 up (vs, 38.4 down and 10.1 up on the iPad pro)

Let’s hope it is software related. I’m noticing a big difference between my Xs and my 6s. The Xs is much slower in speed with equal to or greater number of bars. Additionally seems to be worse inside of buildings when the Xs should be better in this situation
Only if your particular Carrier is making use of the new 71 Band (600 MHz Range). Many areas are not, yet.

This is interesting. Turned off data roaming, now 69.2 down/17.2 up. Still connected to the same network, if I'm to believe the status bar.

Consider yourself lucky. I am in Manhattan as well. My XS Max on AT&T is horrendous on LTE. ~1-3mbps download. Often shows no service. I had upgraded from a 7+ and the difference is mind blowing.

Again I think this further reiterates how there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why some are having the issues and some aren't. If you read any of the other huge forum threads on the issues, it's impacting people across carriers and regions. Even those with the same carriers and in the same regions are having different experiences.

Like the article and others posting, I too have been in touch with Apple support/engineering teams. I have installed profiles for both cellular and wifi issue logging and have sent those to Apple. This is a huge PITA. I just want my phone to work as it should.

Ouch. Hope they work it out. When my LTE signal is good on LTE, my Max pulled down as high as 150mbps earlier today on the upper west. Right now, downtown, I’m clocking 60mbps.

I don’t think that this can be fixed via software upgrade. I had the problem on two different devices. I finally reverted back to a X that my local Apple store still had in stock last week.

I reverted back to an 8 Plus, the X is almost as bad as the Xs/Max. The 8 Plus is miles better.

Maybe the carrier updates weren't ready at the time Apple tested. I would bet Apple told them the phone was going to be released whether the carriers were ready or not. Doesn't appear VZW was.

Kinda sorta. It’s the first phone to exclusively use the intel modem. Previous versions have been a mix of Qualcomm and intel.

No. This is the first Verizon compatible iPhone with a radio made by Intel.

That's weird... give it a few more tests and see if it sticks.
Seems like. On speedtest I've gotten

39.1/7.49
69.2/14.8
55.7/17.2

Turning data roaming back on and it seems to stick. 59.1/7.49.

I had previously tried toggling airplane mode and rebooting the phone, neither of which were any help. But toggling data roaming off and on seems to have solved it for the moment.

Ah, wait. This is interesting. Turning airplane mode on and off again, and I'm back to where I started! 2.94 down and 0.87 up.

So weird!

So now the big test... Data roaming off again. Nope. 4.20 down/1.65 up.

Definitely some sort of software thing here, but not reliably reproducible.

"Apple just reached out to me to see if I could answer some questions about my Xs Max reception issues "

I wonder what they asked.

"How are you holding the device?"

Oh wait...

...and toggling airplane and roaming on and off a bunch of times and now I'm at:

31.2/9.05
30.8/10.8
41.4/3.39

So it seems to be a crapshoot - when it re-connects to the network, it might hit the right frequency/right tower, or it might not.

It has been done in the past with the iPhone 4, if I am not mistaken.

All the sudden after an update I got 1-2 more AT&T bars, but the same throughout using Speedtest app.

That was an issue of voice, not data.

1.00.07 modem firmware here, and not the 1.01.12 listed in the article. Anyone else actually see 1.01.12 on their devices on 12.0?
I just checked and I’m also on 1.00.07.
How does that get updated?
I’m on T-Mobile’s network.

Anyone having connectivity ( LTE ) issues with TMobile ? Occasionally, opening a webpage or even logging into an App takes a while, or just hangs.

Also, on WiFi, while the speedtest shows downstream/upstream speeds very similar to other devices, sometimes webpages take forever to open.

I will be calling Apple about this, just wondering if any other TMobile users are facing a similar issue.
I had issues on T-Mobile and ended up sending my new phones back until the issue is worked out.

I’m inside a very large shopping mall, inside a Cheesecake Factory at the bar. As per photo I am on AT&T.

Absolutely no issues today or since I got the Xs Max on launch day.

WiFi is also excellent.

Purely posting data and not diminishing anyone else’s issues.
