I suppose the only reason for Apple to do this is so Amazon doesn't get it. I love James Bond but the franchise is dead. The new stuff is an embarrassment.

It puzzles me though why Apple would bid on this and did not on NFL streaming rights. Live sports is the only growth area in TV right now.

Yep. Live sports continue to draw monster ratings. Meanwhile, the movie industry just had their worst-attended summer movie season in 25 years.

Apple, focus on your current products that are already lacking!! And release the new modular Mac Pro already! My goodness...
However, my only gripe is I wish Apple would reinvest this money back into their services like Maps. I want Maps to succeed but it needs much more work to catch up to Google Maps. Funny that India and China are huge focuses for them, but their country maps are still lacking.
I'm always amused by the idea that the world's wealthiest multinational corporation is capable of doing only one thing at a time. "Wait, how can they develop the iPhone 8 when they're already working on laptop upgrades? They spread themselves so thin!"

Apple has about $130 billion in cash reserves. This deal would close for around $5 billion and you think it would affect Maps development? Or any other project for that matter?

But which company, Apple or Amazon, is more likely for another GoldenEye 64-quality game to emerge?

Can just see it now. Bond ditches his Omega for an Apple Watch...whipping out his airpods when trying to call Q...asking Siri for directions to his meeting point.

Apple should bid on exclusive streaming rights for NFL games the next time the TV contract is up. It would be game-over for many of the cable companies. A LOT more people would cut the cord.
smart man - Apple can obviously do both - but NFL would bring more subscribers than repeats of James Bond IMO.

Apple would probably want Bond to wear the Apple Watch, use the iPhone, the MacBook Pro, iPad and then possibly drive the Apple Car instead of the Aston Martin!
Finally would come the black turtle neck top!!!

Guess he'll be using iPhones and Q will use Macs in future films instead of Sony devices hahaha.

If they do get the rights, Jony needs to be cast as Q. It's perfect.

Apple are only bidding for the rights to distribute the finished films, they aren't looking to take over production of the the films.

In a way I hope Apple doesn't get it or become successful with video streaming. The future looks very bleak (and expensive) for the consumer of this kind of stuff. All these competing streaming services, all requiring a monthly subscription. There comes a point (from the consumer's point of view) that enough is enough. No more subscriptions.
If they’re able to do a good value bundle subscription, for example $15 for Apple Music + ‘Apple Video’ (including 4K) + some iCloud storage then it might be appealing. The issue is having multiple, costly subscriptions I think.

But what annoys me is that they’re becoming more like Microsoft in the sense of apps putting paying members first, as is evident from Apple Music. The Apple Music features are still visible and accessible to non subscribers, but prompt you to subscribe once you attempt to use them. That’s what they shouldn’t be doing.

Apple has so much more cash than Amazon it's silly, and is laser focused on banner content. E

A laser focus on banner content like Planet of the Apps and Carpool Karaoke? Kinda thin competition compared to the dozens of Emmy nominations Amazon has racked up with it's original shows like “Transparent,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” and “The Man in the High Castle”.

I'm always amused by the idea that the world's wealthiest multinational corporation is capable of doing only one thing at a time.

Because that's kinda how Apple as been for long time now? For example, OS X team members were pulled away to work on iOS. FCP team members were pulled away to work on iOS's video frame work. Desktop computer products have basically done squat since 2009. Digital music sales enjoyed a relatively brief moment in the sun as the successor to the CD before sales flattened and streaming services like Spotify became the new growth segments. :apple:TV was something unique in 2007, but 10yrs later it's still a "hobby" for Apple while everyone from Amazon and Netflix to Roku and LG marched on and made streaming content to multiple screens an everyday experience.

Of course considering Apple's finical health it seems like this approach has worked out well for them. Apple has had billions upon billions upon in the bank for years, but just throwing money around isn't their MO.

Just watched Spectre yesterday.

Apple should do more product placement. In the last Guardians of the Galaxy when the protagonist gets a Zune player instead of his broken Walkman, it could be a perfect spot for an original iPod. It would look cool even in the far future.

I don't see Bond using an Apple Watch though.
<shows Vesper his fancy new Apple Watch>Hang on, I just need to hold it at the right angle so it lights up. Give it a second...

Anyway and more importantly: anyone else think Daniel Craig (rhymes with plague, by the way, not smeg) would look better with slightly longer hair, so it doesn't make his ears stand out so much?

Then it would have felt like naff, obvious product placement, rather than a funny joke.

It would have a nice nostalgic feel, the original iPod was discontinued long ago.
I bet half of the people didn’t even get that joke about Zune, especially those outside US.

I can't think of anything more worst then these companies getting 'more' then the distribution rights...

I can see an American playing Bond with a put of fake English accent, Apple product placement everywhere and exclusive streaming to iTunes, rent it for the bargain price of $50..

And his Aston will be replaced with a Viper..

I hope this doesn't happen.

"So Q, what have you got for me today...?"

"Nothing today 007, but just wait, we have the most amazing gadgets in the pipeline, honest!"

"But that doesn't help me today Q... I could be dead by the time you finish work on these new exciting projects"

"Why are you so stuck in the past 007! This is the FUTURE we are talking about! Don't worry, your next set of gadgets will be the thinnest, most beautiful gadgets ever! You'll want to show them off to every villain you meet before you even use them!"

"OK, what've you done with the real Q?"

*Q pulls off face mask to reveal his replacement, known only as 'I' before running away*
:D:p:DDon't forget, Q/I will have some dongles to give out!

Any Craig bond film > any bond film before it.

If this means I can't buy or rent Bond films on Amazon, Netflix, or some other platform agnostic service then I'll be pissed. Apple, for all its hot air about net neutrality, is extremely hypocritical.
There comes a point (from the consumer's point of view) that enough is enough. No more subscriptions.
If you want to watch a movie you don't need subscription. Just buy or rent it. Not sure why anyone calls foul when x title isn't on Netflix. With the money you spend on Netflix and Amazon Prime per year you should easily be able to buy or rent some of the films you want to see.

And yet they can't seem to produce compelling new versions of some of their core products on a regular basis. While you may be able to reason that they "should" be able to do many things at once, its not that unusual for a company to lose focus and/or let success go to their proverbial head and get lazy or take customers for granted. I think Tim is a terrible leader for Apple. He's clearly distracted by lots of things... politics, liberal causes, etc.. The company is moving in a completely different direction than when SJ was there, and computers is not it.

Actually they'll make a liberal version; Female protagonist first and a transsexual later.

This was kind of what I was thinking. Bond is a terrible fit for Apple's current social world view.

Right... those two you listed are laser focused on something, I'm just not sure what it is. They aren't targeting anything close to my demographic I can assure you.

Any Craig bond film > any bond film before it.

Surely that is a typo and you meant "<". No way Craig comes even a mile close to Connery. I'll give you Lazenby and Dalton. Moore was great fun. Brosnan, maybe a tie. I'll take Niven in the original Casino Royale to Craig 24/7.

Why? I can think of so many things that would be better investments. What is happening at Apple?

To be fair, isn't it currently made by an American company and distributed by a Japanese one?

so apple wants another man with the golden banana? expensive but after acquiring the apple/beatles british brand i suppose the rest is to follow. selling england by the pound. hope the queen is next

well, they did buy doctor dre inc. and beats for $2billion. this newly proposed acquisition seems in order then?

Yep. Live sports continue to draw monster ratings. Meanwhile, the movie industry just had their worst-attended summer movie season in 25 years.

Well yeah cause they churn out the same crap year after year.
Look at the Aliens film. Made out of spite by Scott and is a really rubbish film, Blomcamp was set the direct one, was really pushing for it but Ridley Scott has permanently slammed the door on him.. and made Alien Convent or whatever it's called.

Oh look an Alien running around a spaceship killing everyone yaaawwwnnnnn oh look it got blown out the airlock yyaaawwwwnnnnn...

Guardians If The Galaxy 2 was great but even Dispicable Me 3 was poor..

I always watch James Bond though but if it's stuffed full of Amazon or Apple gear with fake one liners promoting their stuff, like BMW requested when their cars were in it, I might stop watching them..
[doublepost=1504720812][/doublepost]

But neither have it exclusive to their services do they.
And do you remember when BMW were in it? Worst self promoting product placement ever.
