That campaign worked well when Apple was struggling to return to prominence, but it doesn't make a lot of sense now that ipods, ipod touch & iphones are the standard these days. Maybe for this mythical tablet, but SJ doesn't believe in looking back, so not sure why they would do this. I agree that anything is better then the Mac vs PC ads of the last few years. Move forward, I say.

I don't know, I might have to agree...

Apple Computer, the company for the people. Innovative thinking to help us use computers, better.

vs.

Apple Corp., the company that is trying to gain global media dominance. Innovative thinking to create a media centric empire.

I think Apple using the likenesses of those great people nowadays for profit is kind of strange. The "Think Different" people Apple SHOULD connect with are more like Henry Ford, great visionary business leaders.

Still one of the best ad campaigns of our time!

I kinda agree with you on this. Apple has a new philosophy that is not as "noble" as that in the past. Apple is also less of a "weak" player in the whole business game nowadays.

Nonetheless, I look forward to seeing a new Ad campaign that ends the "I'm a Mac" ads

Isn't the iPod/iPhone/iTunes juggernaut the "status quo" now? Didn't Apple announce they are the largest retailer of digital music downloads?

Here's to the crazy ones to shake things up a bit! Could be Apple, could be someone else.

Not really "Think Different" really applies anymore.

They use all the same components as every other computer (Intel chips) and the iPhone is phone everyone tries to copy so it's not really different.

So I don't know what is different...

agree, craving to see a company that really thinks differently :(:apple::(

I agree. Apple is far too big of a company now to try to say "hey, we're the alternative." Maybe Microsoft should use Think Different to sell the Zune, or Palm should use it to sell the Pre, etc. Maybe Apple should think different and discount their hardware when the processors are a year old and worth a tenth what they're selling them for...:D

it would be a nice balance to their emerging image as a nike type brand

having said that, this ad has a hugely different impact on me after having worked as an apple contractor (in short, a virtual apple employee that was not payed directly but rather through a conduit as to not have to follow labor laws, but a position which was identical to that of an apple employee)--when you work in that position the last thing they want is independence, intelligence or anything close to a square peg in a round hole--i got marked down for correcting my supervisor when i instructed her that a macbook hard disk was a user replaceable part and would not void the customer's warranty and told that it was my job to upsell (meaning upsell hard drives, meaning tell the customer that they only had this once chance to upgrade their hard drive size)

apple does think different...at the top....the core is still a sausage factory

New class of device/user experience = different.

Seriously, you guys are looking way to far into this.

...Apple is far too big of a company now to try to say "hey, we're the alternative."...

Nope. They are the alternative. While they are making a lot of money they still only own a very, very, very small percentage of the total PC and Phone market.

I really hope they never bring back the Color Apple Logo. It looks tacky and I would never buy an Apple product with that logo on it. I know it doesn't impact the product quality, but I purchase Apple products for Function, Quality and Looks. I think the Silver/Black Apple logos are very distinguished and look "high class".

Ingenius car adverts like VW and BMW - smart, elegant, intelligent (in Europe anyway - can't speak for US ads)

Really ads *should* reflect their products - which I guess is why all windows adverts make you cringe and want to turn them off immediately never to be seen or experienced ever again :D

Reviving this campaign would be a good move in my eyes. I loved the Think Different ads and posters and everything about it. I thought it was an awesome slogan. :)

I hope they bring it back... then I can get a new Think Different T-shirt. :D I know they'll never bring back the rainbow Apple logo, it's gone and it won't ever come back.

I think the Think Different campaign was the best one, Lennon and Dylan are my heroes in life and I can relate with the message. To me it's the best ad ever made, but that's my opinion.

If the Tablet can revolutionize the world as the Mac, iPod and the iPhone did, Apple will become the most recognized company in the world. If they aren't already.

I so want this to happen. I hadn't seen the Think Different stuff on my new iMac but there it is!

by far my favorite of apple's advertising campaign that brought out the essence of what makes the company unique-

I would LOVE it if they brought this back!!! :D

I want to see a mix of "Think Different" coupled with SHOWING HOW their products are different, like the Macs, OS X, iLife, the ecosystem, etc. Slow, dramatic, sexy highlights of features and quality. THAT would be awesome and really differentiate Apple from all the PCs and other phones and devices and show people the true magic of what Apple has created!

Please don't revive it! Apple's not going to change the world like Einstein, Gandhi, etc. did. Such a campaign degrades the work of those people.

The personal computer, which was in large part pioneered by Jobs, has changed the world far, far more than any individual in that ad did (yes, including MLK and Ghandi). Apple has also changed the way a vast number of people think about digital music (ipod, itunes store) and phones (iphone) in a very short period of time. The effect is easily comparable to or greater than to, say, the way Ali changed boxing (same goes for many of the others in the ad in their respective fields).

To those who are saying apple is no longer about "thinking different," I say two things. First, apple's marketshare in both PCs and phones is still very small (not so in digital music though). Second, I think it's a mistake to go by pure numbers. The slogan can also mean think differently about how you use/interact with your digital devices, regardless of how many people own such devices.

Anyway, I love this ad campaign, and the original ad in particular. It's probably my favorite ad ever, even better than 1984.

I like the idea of this ad campaign resurfacing. Good memories, it was all positive energy, and about acomplishment of people, and a motivator to be "different" in some ways.

I like it, although I'm not convinced that "think different" is proper grammar ("differently"), just as I'm not convinced "funnest iPod yet" is proper. But who cares. ;)

think differentLY!!!!

agree, craving to see a company that really thinks differently :(:apple::(

As one other has already pointed out, adding the 'ly' may not necessarily apply. Think about all the individuals used in the first "Think Different" campaign. Not only did they 'think differently' but they were each, in their own way, Different from their peers.
  • Einstein: A mathematical genius, yet he couldn't even complete high-school math. Why?
  • Newton: Sat under an apple tree and deduced the principles of gravity from the simple even of an apple nearly hitting him.
  • Ghandi: Freed a nation from a global empire - not by fighting them, but by NOT fighting them.
Each of these individuals, and the others used during the original Think Different campaign were Different, themselves. Different is good. Different is advancement. Different is Growth.

Personally, I believe the campaign as re-imagined will be significantly different from the original, and yet can use the original theme just as effectively.
