When the flagship iPhone in my country can be $2000, I think the value is simply not there.
That's caused by the rip-off exchange rate close to 27.25 CZK == 1 EUR. Currently the rate is like 25.75.:mad:

EDIT: Applies for Macs/iPads. iPhone prices is 1:1 with EUR prices in the whole EU.

Well Apple has been massively increasing prices here in recent years and a lot of people are fed up with it. I think the iPhone X is overpriced by about $150. A few years ago when the iPhone was $649 I said I'd be willing to spend $200 more for an "iPhone Pro" that has premium features. I think $849 would have been perfect and make people less hesitant about upgrading.
If you feel the price is too high in the USA then remember that in Europe we always get the same increases, usually more. The USA gets 100 USD extra, we get more 120, 130, it depends. And then the vat on top of that which being a percentage tax around 20% depending on country compounds even stronger.
And the cherry on top reduced services from Apple's ecosystem.

As many have said the prices were out of line in many countries. It is good that Tim can spin it this way if at the end of the day he can escape admitting it is a price problem and then actually lower prices.

Well I hope the news/article we are discussing here actually mean we will see this problem solved soon, because it is directly related to CZK pricing.

why not lower prices in the US as well? I mean damn, we make up most of their sales.
Their clear current goal is to do better with converting currencies, as that has been horrendous for a while.

They won't lower prices in the U.S. until the new models come out, to maintain their preservation, and while I hope they lower the XS and XS Max successors each by $100 less, but I'm currently doubting it, at best the XR successor will be in the $600s range. Maybe they will at least have the XI and XI Max come with a 128 GB starting storage over the lower model to make up some difference.
Used to be people would come to the US to buy their Apple toys.... now we get to go to Brazil! Can anyone say "Mardi Gras'. Oh yeah.
Mardi Gras in the state of Louisiana is pretty nice too, or is that the joke?

Something could change in the Mac & iPad product lines. Nothing will much happen with iPhone prices (well… they could lower the price by something like 500 CZK to get it on par with the Austrian prices), the rate there is much more CZK-friendly.

Austria: 957.5 EUR without VAT.
Czechia: 967 EUR without VAT.

PS: Thank the current/previous government for canceling the retirement system reform and keeping the 1 percent point of VAT meant for funding it, the price could be slightly better. :(

Really? US doesn’t make up most of the sales. And 2, they already explained the FX rates with the strong dollar is why they lowered them in other countries.

It will be after. So many people forget/don't know that USD pricing is before sales tax, across the EU the pricing includes it.

Even if you take the sales taxes into account it doesn't convert equally.

If you buy an iPhone XS in New York = $999 + sales tax = $1087.66 which in GBP is £831.44

If you buy an iPhone XS in London = £999 including VAT.

Ignorant. Apple stuff costs double in Brazil, for example an iPhone XS starts at R$7299 which is roughly $2000 in US currency. They place a 100% tariff on devices manufactured outside the country. So most people either don’t buy Apple, or if they do they buy when they’re in Europe or North America.

The iPhone I would like to upgrade to is AUD$2,049 (a XS Max 256GB). That's absolutely insane!

Apple's prices have already been preventing me from buying the latest model for the last few years, which is why I jumped on the opportunity to have the battery refreshed in my iPhone 7 Plus, which I bought second hand.

People paid 500 bucks for an iPhone on 2008 that had no apps, 4 GB storage, 3.5 inch 160 ppi terrible screen, slow WiFi and cell connectivity and an unusable camera. Now they want 750 (don’t forget inflation) for one with... well you all know how much better it is in every way. And you think 750 is expensive? I am sure many of the people complaining ran out and got the Original iPhone. No problem! But now, it’s too expensive? That’s a venti dark roast at Starbucks for a year. Or 10 months actually. So what is the problem? Buy an Chinese Android phone and move on.

A Londoner can fly to NYC for a weekend and pick up 2 new unlocked iPhones, an Apple Watch and have a cheap holiday.

Are you seriously suggesting that because UK and EU have better consumer rights, that that justifies Apple charging more.!!
How about making more reliable products?
Um.... Yes....

This is how businesses work. Warranties are built into the price.

Is your post missing the /s?

I'd say hold onto to your phones and wait longer before you think about buying a new one. If the revenue continues to slide into the current quarter, it will put more pressure on Tim. There seems to be plenty of people here who thinks the price is too high.

So everyone is getting a price cut except the United States? Thanks a lot Tim! Way to screw over your home country.

He knows people here will buy it no matter the price. If sales are still strong in the US it's likely they will use the higher margins here to offset lower margins in other countries.

Ok, so I live in Czech Republic. The base MBP 15" costs 2399 USD, which is around 54000 CZK. Let's say we add 10% VAT for US, which is the average I think?! = around 2640 USD = 59400 CZK. In my country, the VAT is 21%, so around 2900 USD = 65200 CZK. The actual price of the base MBP 15 in Czech Republic is 74000 CZK. Please explain?
This does sound like a US$380 difference when factoring the VAT.

I am not familiar with the Czech Republic's consumer protection laws, nor any type of regulation fees that may increase the price even more. Do you think there might be some?

I can. Edu prices.
Austria: rMBP 2018 13"/16/512 - 2334 EUR (60000 CZK to cover minor exchange rate fluctuations).
Czechia: rMBP 2018 13"/16/512 – 64 286 CZK (2508 EUR). Quite a difference. Yes, we have 1 % (21 %) higher VAT, but...

Does this mean education pricing?

I see silly posts like this all the time.

The price of technology gets cheaper over time, and technology typically gets better with time. Comparing the tech from 10 years ago to the tech today is pointless when justifying the price.

Besides, I don't think too many people were paying $500 for an iPhone in 2008, most got it for much cheaper with their subsidize cell phone plan.

well you all know how much better it is in every way.

I wouldn't say every way, I guess it depends on what you consider better. The $750 iPhone is too big imo.
